Made a last minute decision to celebrate my hubby's birthday at Todai. Since we had been an old-timer of the Todai Restaurant in Hong Kong (already closed), I thought it would bring us some good memories of the past. We ended up being regretfully unsatisfied. Made a last minute decision to celebrate my hubby's birthday at Todai. Since we had been an old-timer of the Todai Restaurant in Hong Kong (already closed), I thought it would bring us some good memories of the past. We ended up being regretfully unsatisfied.

We made a serious mistake of reaching there at 1:30pm for the lunch, while the buffet starts at 11:30am. After 2 rounds of my fill, there were no more refill for the hot dishes (at around 2:30pm), even though the buffet is supposed to end at 4pm. I feel like if I were there to finish the unwanted food. The saddest thing was that I saw the last few pieces of chili crayfish being taken by some Japanese ladies all at once.

Well, we still got the consolation prizes, which are the snow crab legs, sushi, sashimi, oyster, clam and mussel. The taste was only so-so. Actually, the price for Sat lunch is the same as dinner, but quite a lot of food is not available. The advertised free flow of strawberry was also not available.

I used to be very careful in my choice of the restaurants, especially for the high-end priced ones. This one is a major let down. Ouch! My wallet is hurt even with the credit card promotion.

I revisited Todai for another birthday celebration. Unlike the previous trip, this time I went with high expectations. The buffet spread was exactly the same as the previous one I had. However, this time round the food was a tad disappointing. The snow crab legs were not as fresh as before. Although it is still relatively fresh. In addition, the refills were slow. Although this may be due to the crowd on a Saturday night.

Todai一律采用日本以外的海鲜食材,以确保食客吃得安心。

Specialties: The International Seafood and Sushi Buffet with experienced chefs and superb dessert.

However, the dim sum is not up to standard.

I believed that Todai in Singapore at The Shoppes of Marina Bay Sands will be the best "all you can eat" seafood and sushi restaurant featuring both International and Asian cuisine - Italian pastas & pizzas, Japanese sashimi & the Tempura section, Korean BBQ & Kimchi as well as local favourites such as Chilli & Black Pepper Crabs, Stir fry beef in Black Pepper, Scallop Tofu and the Sea Cucumber Stir Fried with Broccoli are set to impress.

Todai serves premium quality food [cold dishes including snow crab crawls (cut the shell open and juicy crab meat await), green mussels and cocktail shrimps] and service.

Once you look at the attached photos, I am sure you would be unable to resist such temptation. Diners piled the plates, round after round......

In addition, freshly shucked oysters are a must to try for the day. Squeeze the lemon, take the first bite and let it slide gently down. Mmmm.

Moreover, tasty treats from the Oil Fish in Yuzu Dressing and Baked Cheese Prawns.

With a buffet line of 87 metres long, seating capacity for more than 400 customers, the 1,300 m2 restaurant has about 100 service staff, where half of them are chefs.

I am a fan of buffets. However, good buffets always leave a hole in my wallet. The more affordable ones would tend to disappoint. The snow crab legs are fresh and sweet. The oysters are good too. And they always manage to refill before the food run out.

The roast and bbq section has a good variety as well. There is roast beef, flank steak, chicken wings, pork belly etc. However, the taste of the roast beef and the flank steak is a tad disappointing. The roast beef is good though.

This is the first time I see a whole table of different types of sushi available in a buffet. However, I did not manage to try any as I was too full. There are many tempura as well. One special tempura is the ginseng tempura. I tried it out of curiosity. It's really bitter. But surprisingly good.

Aside from the spread and the freshness of the food, another thing I like about Todai is the availability of drinks. There are both cold and hot drinks included in the buffet.

One drawback is the interior design of the restaurant. Being in MBS, I expected it to be posh. However, it is more of a family restaurant. The lack of round tables also make it inconvenient for family dinners.

All in all, I would definitely come back again. In fact, I am going back again this week.
