Visited the famous sungei road trishaw laksa for lunch today! The stall is front-facing and it's really easy to spot even though it's on the second floor. They offer fruit juice mee siam (the gravy was not too bad, sour at first but it leaves a sweet aftertaste which is pleasant -"fruit juice" always intrigued me, I wonder what fruits are used!!), mee rebus and of course, their famous laksa. This laksa is really different from others, it doesn't have that sinful coconut milk feel to it when you slurp the gravy, but I'm totally fine with that. The taste has a dimension of its own, it's like someone mixed curry with meesiam gravy and cooked it with laksa leaves. That would be a very poor representation of how the taste is and you should try it for yourself to find out. The bowl of $3 gives you a substantial amount of noodles with fishcake, prawns and cockles (i love cockles so cockles are always a must in my laksa!!). The soup is really good, down to the last drop and really -no regrets on the calories here. The laksa leaves can also be tasted in the soup, and it has a good balance of spice and lemak-ness to give this refreshing kick to the dish -perfect!! I could drink the plain gravy on its own and have it with rice!!

The uncle is also very pleasant and friendly, despite the heat of the day and stuffiness of the hawker centre...Definitely will come back for more!
