Persian Delights With Bobby Chinn Smile Oct 21, 2010

It was a contest collaboration between TLC (Travel & Living Channel) & OpenRice. Was honoured to be 1 of the 2 OpenRicers to win this dinner.

I was even more star-struck when Bobby Chinn sat right beside me during dinner!!! tongue

We were served with 6 Persian dishes (see images).

I have to be honest that the yoghurt drink didn't go well with me. It was too saltish. Maybe they can reduce the salt & add more dried mint leaves instead. tongue

My favourites were the Hummus with Naan, Khoresht-E-Bamieh & Persian ice cream.

Hummus
A combination of garbanzo beans with tahina, garlic, lemon with a touch of olive oil. How do you eat this? Tear a piece of Naan and use it to scoop up the hummus.

Khoresht-E-Bamieh
The popular stew "Okra-The Lady Finger" in tomato base. This went really well with the tumeric steamed rice. Whets your appetite even more due to its tangy/sourish/saltish aftertaste.

Persian ice cream
This home style ice cream was flavoured with saffron, topped with pomegranate seeds & pistachio chunks. It has a unique taste. Those who are particular with food might not like this. I love it cos it's very refreshing. It helped to wash down all the savoury flavours of the previous dishes from your palate.

I would like to try the sheesha the next time I'm there! lol

The Vanilla Dirt Cake Smile Jul 06, 2010

Categories : Japanese | Fusion | Café | Desserts and Cakes

It is like its name. The moment we enter, we could smell the sweet delicate vanilla in the café. The interior décor was simple and contemporary with a touch of creativity. The menus reminded me of sketchbooks and the place was really relaxing and cosy. It would be a great place to chill out during the late afternoons or mornings for their all-day breakfast.

The service was good, friendly and attentive. Drinks were refilled without prompting.

We ordered the Vanilla Dirt Cake (8.50+ SGD), we had been eyeing this “Vanilla Pudding with Oreo and a tinge of cream cheese” for a long time. Liang Wei and I were intrigued by the dirt cake because of the way it was presented.

When it was first served, Yew Ann didn’t notice it was our order, he was wondering why the waiter placed a flower pot in the middle of the table. This pretty pot of flower is actually a delightful dessert for cookies and cream lovers. On the top was cookie soil, the bottom was layers of creamy vanilla pudding with a hint of cream cheese flavour, while a bit icy, the balance was there, not being too creamy like 15 Minutes’.

In between these layers of vanilla pudding were layers of crushed oreo cookies that provided a crunch to this dessert. The whole experience feels like one having an enjoyable moment with their oreo cookies. Nice dessert, my only feedback was icy texture, probably because it was served straight out of the fridge.

Our total bill was 9.35 SGD after 10% Service Charge, no sign of GST in the receipt.
