A new star in the rising OK Mar 12, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice

This is one of the newest stalls in this food centre. Apparently this is the only chicken rice stall that i am currently patronising.

The white chicken here changed my opinion of eating white chicken. I always think white chicken is fatter and oily as compared to the roasted one but i realised it is not quite so after eating from this stall.

When you talk about chicken rice, i do think the chilli sauce is as important as the chicken itself. The chilli sauce here does not have the sweet taste which i dislike very much, it has a nice chilli taste with a controllable spiciness and a little tingling of lime taste.

I ever told the boss once, i said, 'You have the nicest tasting chilli in Ang Mo Kio for chicken rice.'

And, I still meant it.

Char Kway Teow Smile Mar 07, 2011
Categories : Hawker Centre

Whenever I am craving for Char Kway Teow (CKT) , I would head to this outlet which is closest to my place. Much as CKT is an unhealthy dish, it is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The hum is well cooked, plenty of lap cheong and spring onions. For $2.50 a plate, it is simply one of the simple pleasures of life. Behold the oily CKT, so yummy and good to eat. An occasional indulgence!

Boyfriend's favourite chicken rice restaurant.
But I would say, the serving of the chicken and rice is getting smaller.
However, it still taste as good!
Service is average.

If you love tender white chicken, try Boon Tong Kee.
If you love fragrant chicken rice, try Boon Tong Kee.
If you love chicken rice's chilli sauce, try Boon Tong Kee.
If you love hor fun, Boon Tong Kee's seafood horfun is my favourite! (serves 2)
If you love smooth porridge, try Boon Tong Kee's porridge instead of the rice smile
If you love salad fried dough (you tiao in chinese), order this when you are there with their special mayonnaise.

Forty hands to make your coffee  Smile Jan 23, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Bakery | Café | Brunch

From plant to cup, it requires on average the work of forty hands, that is how the name of this three-month-old café came about. Tucked away in the sleepy Tiong Bahru estate, coffee connoisseurs now have one more hot spot to pick up their cup of gourmet coffee.

Forty Hands was a joint set up by a group of visionary individuals who share the same desire to improve the life of millions of coffee growers in developing countries through the coffee they make here.

Its coffee menu features a selection of freshly brewed in-housed blends priced from as low as $2.50 (no ++). The cup of Mocha ($6.50) I had was made smooth and robust in flavours. The melted chocolate in it warmed me from bottom up that rainy afternoon.

On any regular weekdays only a small selection of sandwiches are served. Their weekend brunch menu looked really tempting.

With their brunch dishes (like Eggs Benedict) we missed out this time, as well as the tapas menu in the making, there is definitely a need for another visit.

High tea in the heartlands Smile Nov 18, 2010

Categories : Bakery | Café | Brunch

If you happen to live near yong siak street, you will be surprised to see such a well conceptualised coffee house to be nestled in the heartlands.

I tried some cappucino, latte and the lemon cheese cake. It was a perfect simple high-tea session! As their website mentions, their barista is well trained and does not press buttons blindly. I witnessed the whole professional making of my coffees as i was sitting right beside the counter!

p.s: Do note that they close quite early at 6.30pm everyday!
