Green Tea ice dessert Smile Sep 14, 2013

Recently, I went to Ji De Chi for desserts. The price of the desserts had increased since the last time I had been there and each plate of shaved ice is now $5.50 and above instead of $5 in the past. I ordered the green tea shaved ice. It comes with a few ingredients added to the side of the dessert - the red beans, the nata de coco cubes and some empty green tea tang yuan balls. The green tea ice is good. It is not too sweet and the ice just melts in your mouth. There is also a slight hint of evaporated milk taste in the shaved ice which enhances the taste of the shaved ice. The red beans are quite sweet so you can pair it together with the ice so that there is more taste. Of the three ingredients, I like pairing the ice with the tang yuan balls as it is quite chewy. The only thing is that I feel the tang yuan balls can be smaller so that it is more complimentary to the shaved ice. The dessert is quite filling if you eat everything by yourself, but alright if it is shared.

I love the varieties of desserts here as they are quite comprehensive and there is sure to have something that you will like. I went there with my wife and we ordered the beancurd with black sesame to share since we had a very filling lunch earlier. The beancurd is very soft and smooth and it is sweetened just right. The black sesame paste is a very nice contrast to the beancurd and it provides a very aromatic and nutty taste to the dessert. There are other combinations of pastes to go with the beancurd if black sesame is not to your fancy.

pancakes Smile Jan 14, 2013

I love the triangular shaped pancakes from Jollibean. This pancake is quite a regular staple for us during weekends when we are not too hungry for lunch after our brunch. The serving size is just right to fill me up and I love the chewiness of the pancake. The pancake itself is not sweet because the fillings are sweetened substantially and I like it this way because it can get rather numbing if it is overly sweet. Only the red bean and peanut pancakes have the triangular version which is fine with me since I usually get the peanut ones.

Fillet o fish meal Smile Jan 12, 2013

It has been some time since I had fillet o fish, so I decided to get the fillet o fish meal for my lunch. The fillet o fish is as delicious as what I remembered it to be. The tartar sauce really helps in enhancing the taste of the burger as it adds a creamy and tangy taste to the fried fillet. Together with the melted cheese, the overall taste is very complementary to each other. This outlet can get quite crowded during lunch time as it is in the city area, so I will suggest coming before lunch or after lunch hours to minimise queuing time.

great chinese food Smile Jan 08, 2013

Dian Xiao Er is one of my favourite stalls to visit for its homely Chinese food. One of my favourite dishes is the three colour egg with spinach. The three eggs, salted egg, duck’s egg and normal chicken egg cooked together results in a very rich tasting broth which is saltish and sweet. The spinach is also not too overcooked, just right such that it is not too limp. Even my son who doesn’t like vegetables is all praise for this. A dinner for the five of us usually comes up to around $110, which is really affordable considering the high standards of food here.
