Satisfying lunch Smile Sep 19, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Food Court | Rice

I was visiting one of my brother who is staying in Punggol and I decided to have lunch here first before going up his house. The dishes here are quite nice and it looks very attractive. I ordered three dishes, french beans, fried tau kwa and black pepper beef. The total cost is $4 if I am not wrong because of the beef. I find that the beef is quite flavourful, there is no beef stench and the beef is rather tender. The black pepper taste compliments the beef cubes very well. The french beans are quite oily but otherwise ok. The tau kwa is quite normal, but the sourish sweet sauce was rather appetising. It is a very satisfying lunch.

Xiao Long Bao Smile Sep 18, 2013

I have heard about a stall selling xiao long bao for only $5 in Chinatown but have not gotten down to trying it until today. The xiao long bao costs $5 for 10 pieces which I think is one of the cheapest xiao long bao that you can find. The xiao long bao are made fresh on the spot and the xiao long bao is actually quite large. The xiao long bao skin thickness is just right, thick enough to hold all the soup of the xiao long bao and yet not too thick until it affect the taste of the xiao long bao. The soup is very tasty and although it does not rival that of din tai fung, it is still worth coming here for a cheaper xiao long bao craving. There are also vinegar and shredded ginger available which you can add to your xiao long bao.

I had my early breakfast at this hawker centre together with my friend when we met up. As I was feeling quite hungry, I ordered a total of 3 dishes to go with my beehoon. Average sushis OK Sep 18, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

It has been ages since I stepped into Sakae Sushi as there are many other better sushi restaurants around. The prices had increased quite a lot since I last stepped into the restaurant. I didn't want to think about what to order, so my wife and I just took the plates off the conveyor belt. Whatever suits our fancy, we will take it and we ended up polishing 10 plates in total which is quite a lot. I guess most of the sushi are just standard fare, nothing particularly outstanding and nothing that is subpar. However, we did notice that the salmon sushi seemed to have shrunk. The slice of salmon on top of the rice is sliced very thinly and it is not the thick slab of salmon that we are getting from other sushi restaurants. The fish roe is something which I would normally not order, but since my wife took it, I decided to try it as well and it is quite nice as it is savoury. The total bill came up to around 32 odd dollars after GST and service charge.

Lunch OK Sep 18, 2013

I am quite hungry by the time I reach Tiong Bahru market as I did not have a proper breakfast in the morning. I saw this stall selling Western food and decided to try out the chicken chop with rice. The chicken chop with rice comes with salad and baked beans and it is quite affordable at $4. I got a photo of my colleague's plate of chicken chop as I had already eaten half of mine before remembering to take a photo of it. The chicken chop is not the whole piece but it has been cut into smaller pieces, something like the chicken dishes which you will order at the economic rice stall, hence I guess thats why it is cheaper at $4. The portion of rice is quite large so it is quite filling. The chicken is quite tender and well flavoured and I really love the sauce. It is not too salty so it is really tasty when you mix it with the rice. The other things are quite standard, I didn't really like the salad as it was too creamy for my liking.
