Trout Specials at Bonta Smile Mar 20, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | European | Pasta | Kids-Friendly

I was lucky enough to try Bonta Restaurant’s special promotion for the month of March to June. Apparently, their chef loves fishing and he got the idea of having this promotion at his restaurant after a NZ trip.

Trivia aside, their dishes are just extraordinary from the taste down to the presentation. One example is the Cold Smoked Trout Fillet Salad. Perfect as a started, this dish features fresh trouts which have achieved that perfectly smoked taste! It’s made richer with its additions of two asparagus sticks, lettuce, and dressing.

Other notable mentions are the Rainbow Trout Carpaccio, Homemade Rainbow Trout Ravioli, Pan-Roasted Rainbow Trout and Baked Rainbow Trout Fillet. All are quite pricey but you can be assured that the fish are fresh and tasty and of good quality. If you are going to try these, make sure you bring companions so you can just share the dishes instead of ordering it one by one.

Freshest Seafood at The Pelican Smile Feb 06, 2013

Categories : American | Bars/Lounges | Hotel | Seafood

If you frequent One Fullerton, you may notice that there's a new restaurant there: The Pelican Seafood Restaurant and Grill. It replaced The Pierside which had been there for 12 years, and so the owners thought it was about time they introduce a new concept.

I was lucky enough to try their offerings on a Monday night. I didn't really know what to expect since it just opened in October 2012 and I haven't really read a lot of reviews about it. Anyway, the first dish I had was the Seafood Platter. Quite pricey but for me, it was worth it: it has mussels, prawns, lobsters, crabs, and so many more fresh seafoods. Verdict: SUPER LOVE IT!!!

After literally attacking the platter, I went for more appetisers, the Pelican chowder, cod's tongue casserole, and black pepper candied bacon. For me, the chowder was a bit too salty, the cod's tongue was very tender. And the bacon was sweet and salty that you can't stop snacking on it.

As for the mains, I first had the NZ Skate wing chop. Apparently, it's a signature here and after tasting, I could see why. Very tender fish meat. and it went really well with the grilled corn. =D I was happy with this.

As for desserts, I sampled three but the standout was definitely the Pina Colada Sherbet. It was just so refreshing after eating so many dishes in one sitting.

Must Try! Smile Feb 16, 2012

For me, this new Italian restaurant at Asia Square Tower One is a must try! The Chef Patron, who has worked in premiere restaurants in SG, now mans the kitchen of this restaurant. As such, it was expected that he is going to deliver perfect dishes.

Take for example the Alaska King Crab with asparagus, zucchini, and sweet chili. With all the ingredients in this appetiser, the strong flavour of the crab, was still highlighted. It was also presented in such a way that you would think twice of eating it. In short, it was just so impressive!

As for the main course, I had the roasted suckling pig. The only thing I didn’t like about this dish was the serving was too small for me! But then again, that’s how they usually portion mains at fancy restaurants like this. But I really enjoyed it, the skin was so crispy and the meat was so flavourful.

I was lucky enough to try this new restaurant and bar at Esplanade. With my colleague, we visited Supply & Demand at around 3pm and we were quite surprised that it was already open. Apparently, it's open all day. And so we went in.

The interior is quite impressive, especially the signature wall which looked like JENGGA stacks. The seats in that area are more comfortable because of the throw pillows provided For other seats, they are mostly mismatched metal chairs and wooden tables.

Since this is a place where you can also visit for drinks, the place houses a long bar with so much alcoholic bottles, I couldn't count them anymore. If I had to guess, it would be more than a hundred.

Anyway, once we were seated, we ordered the Chorizo Italian sausage pizza and the Fries with a side of guilt. The pizza had a thin crust, but it wasn't so thin that it would seem like you're just eating air. Love, love, love the pizza! the chorizo added a spunk to the taste. It was meaty with a hint of spice. It was also served in this wooden chopping board which just aced the presentation.

The fries were soo good, too. Thick cut fries drenched in cheese and jalapeno. The jalapeno had just the right amount of spiciness. The fries were also served with chilli and barbecue sauce. OMG. I couldn't stop eating -it was just that marvelous.

Though it's only new in the market, i'm very impressed that Supply & Demand can deliver that kind of quality already. It just goes to show that the staff is very professional and are serious about making it in this business.

Worth the 40 minute walk Smile Aug 20, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Restaurant | Burgers and Sandwiches | Brunch

I had been reading about this new brunch place at Bishan Park called Grub. Since it is just near my house, my roomate and I decided to go and check it out this past Sunday morning. So we woke up early and walked to Bishan (it was just a 10 minute walk). As it turned out, Bishan Park is massive and consists of two parts, one is near my place and the other one is almost at Marymount. Can you just imagine how far it is?

Anyway, we didn't know it then and we kept on walking and walking till we reached the place after 40 freaking minutes! But at least when we got there, there were still a few empty tables so we didn't have to wait. I ordered the Grub cheese burger and lime juice first.

The burger was really affordable - it was like $11 only, and it came with fries. The beef patty for me was just the right size. It wasn't so thick that you would have a hard time eating it already. It was sandwiched in between two buns with mayo and ketchup The cheese was soo melted that it seemed to be part of the patty already. Sooo GOOD! The lime juice was ok, it seemed like there was 80 percent water and 20 percent lime.

Once I was done with my burger - I ordered dessert. I read in a blog that some people drop by this place just for this dessert. It was also quite good even though the chocolate tasted like those powdered ones. There was another sauce, the creme anglaise, which had a slight tangy taste...

I dont know if my hunger from walking for 40 minutes has affected my tastebuds, but I think the food at Grub are really worth praising. It's comfort food which you can enjoy within the lush and green Bishan garden. And the prices are very reasonable too. Two thumbs up!
