An Extravagant Wedding Affair  Smile Mar 15, 2014

We were here for a wedding dinner food tasting and I must say their quality of food way exceeded our expectations and even surpass those of many 5 stars hotel! If you’re looking for an exclusive wedding banquet venue, do consider Raffles Town Club, not only for their food choices, but overall ambience and package too lolCold Dish Combination (Crabmeat Omelette, Smoked Duck, Roasted Char Siew, Crispy Enoki Mushroom with Octopus, Deep-Fried Silver Fish)A generally well prepared cold dish that was tasty. I especially love their Smoked Duck and Roasted Char Siew as they were really soft and fragrant.

Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Bamboo Pith and CrabmeatA hearty bowl of shark’s fin soup that was not too starchy and filled with generous amounts and shredded crabmeat and shark’s fin. The taste was also very fresh and rich.

Wok-Fried Scallops and Prawns with Broccoli, "Shimeiji" Mushrooms and XO SauceOne of my favourite dishes among the 8-course dinner set. The XO sauce was mildly spicy with a hint of buttery fragrance and sweetness of seafood. The prawns and scallops were fresh and crunchy.

Steamed Coral Trout with TurnipsThe fish was very fresh but unfortunately, overcooked. The meat was kind of dry though the flavours were well locked in.

Braised Abalone Mushrooms with Sea Cucumber and SpinachThe sea cucumbers were really delicious and literally melted in our mouths! The QQ texture was a pleasure to savour. This was a tastefully prepared dish with well braised abalone mushrooms and sea cucumber that were simply delectable.

Roasted Chicken with "Mala" SauceThe roasted chicken was tender, juicy and soft. Topped with a generous amount of fried shallots, the aroma of this dish easily captured our hearts and taste buds. The kids especially love the prawn crackers that accompanied this dish.

Braised "Ee Fu Noodles" with Diced Seafood, Mushrooms and Yellow Chives wrapped in Lotus LeafThe Ee Fu Noodles unfortunately missed the mark. The presentation was unique (we usually associate lotus leaf with rice), but the noodles were blend and did not exude any tinge of fragrance. Thankfully, the chili sauce was good and added the much needed kick to spice up this dish.

Lemongrass Jelly with Aloe VeraA perfect ending to wrap up this lovely food tasting session. Not a common dessert that’s being served during wedding banquet, this was a refreshing twist that was enjoyed by both the old and young. The zesty flavour, coupled with chewy tadpole toppings, were an interesting combination that was a delight to savour.

Hearty Breakfast Smile Feb 15, 2014

We were on a staycation at Raffles Town Club which included breakfast for two at their club’s café. The husband ordered their Club Special Breakfast set consisting of bacon, scrambled eggs on toast, sautéed mushrooms, garden vegetables and baked beans. A pretty decent and hearty meal to kick start the day. My husband especially liked the streaky bacon as it was quite crispy and flavourful.

I order the Eggs Benedict with asparagus on Rye Toast. The Eggs Benedict was nicely prepared and presented. I particularly enjoyed the Rye Toast as it was soft and easy on the palate, not those dry and hard types we commonly find around other cafes.

Wholesome rice treat Smile Feb 10, 2014

Tuna Rice Wrap

Tuna Rice Wrap

I had been constantly attracted by the fragrance emitting from this shop and finally decided to give it a try though I was never a fan of rice products.

Marketing itself as a healthy concept food choice, the variety of rice products – brown rice, mixed grain, wheat germ brown rice, purple rice, red rice - seemed really nutritious and wholesome. As the standard rice roll (choice of 5 fillings) was too much for me, I bought the small Tuna Rice Wrap ($2.20) for a try. The wholesome treat (combination of mixed grain with purple rice, tuna flakes and sweet corn kernel) was indeed very fragrant, soft and tasty.

However, the Soyabean milk with purple rice (which came FOC with their breakfast promotion) was nothing to shout about. It was diluted, sugar loaded and tasted nothing like soyabean milk.

Will probably try out the rice roll for lunch next time smile

We've always enjoyed the food at Yayoiken, both for the quality as well as pocket friendly prices!

Buta Yakiniku Set ($9.90++)
For those who are looking for something light and healthy, this is definitely the set for you! The grilled pork was really tender and juicy and paired very well with the complementary salted vegetables served. Coupled with the grilled vegetables, potatoes, and side salad, this is one complete and wholesome meal that will leave you as happy as a lark!

Tea time quick fix Smile Oct 20, 2013

Categories : Bakery | Halal

Polar Puff is current running a promotion with NETS FlashPay where you get to enjoy a complementary slice of sugar roll with min $3 spent.

Their Sugar Roll ($1.20/pcs) has been one of my favourite tea time quick fix. The cake is soft and light and I especially love the slightly moist texture which makes every bite literally melts in your mouth.

Recently, they have also launched a new item – Wholemeal Sugar Roll ($1.40/pcs) which is targeted at the more health conscious folks. It is significantly less sweet than the regular sugar roll and has a coarse and slightly crunchy texture. If you are looking for a wholesome, guilt-free tea time snack, this would make the perfect match!

Do pop by your nearest Polar Puff outlet to enjoy this special promotion tie up and satisfy your tea time snack attack!
