First Taste on Dora Keiki Cookies OK Jan 23, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Bakery

I was at Ang Mo Kio Hub and there was a Chinese New Year cookie roadshow. Many of the vendors mainly from Heartland confectionary or factory participated in the roadshow.

The store which I stopped by was Dora Keiki. The pricing of the Heartland Confectionary is much cheaper than the stalls participated at Takashimaya. The price ranges from $15.80 and below. I consider the pricing is reasonable.

At Dora Keiki, I tasted the pineapple tart. It was soft and butter flavour was not heavy. Otherwise, the butter flavour could have overshadowed the pineapple filling and makes no meaning to have the pineapple filling. The pineapple tart is big and heavy.

The next item which I tasted was the green pea cookie. Instead of flour, green pea has replaced flour. Having green pea as flour base will make a healthy eating choice. However, gout eater will have to take note.

The love letter was thin and long. It does not break easily and leads to no waste of love letter droppings.

I love the pineapple tart and the green pea as they do not have butter flavour.

First Taste on Selvni Cookies OK Jan 23, 2014

Categories : Singaporean | Stall / Kiosk | Brunch

I was at Ang Mo Kio Hub and there was a Chinese New Year cookie roadshow. Many of the vendors mainly from Heartland confectionary or factory participated in the roadshow.

The store which I stopped by was Selvni. Selvni claims that its cookies are Home Make. Each can is selling at $12.50. As for this week promotion, the cookies are selling at $20 for two cans of any choices.

The promoter offered me Selvni’s pineapple tart. The tart was big. Even the tart was cut to half, it still looked big and heavy. The pineapple filling still looked raw and juicy.

The promoter offered me a tray of the cookies. I sampled Kueh Bangkit, shrimp roll and peanut cookies. The cookies are low sugar content.

The special cookies that only Selvni is known as ‘Romeo Cookie’. I don’t know it is named Romeo. I don’t find the taste any extraordinary. It tasted like any of the ordinary cookies. I teased the promoter if Selvni has Julie, the promoter claimed that ‘Julie Cookie’ is at the main store. How I wished that ‘Julie Cookie’ is brought to the roadshow.

Generally, the cookie tasted alike like any of the store.

Enjoy Swiss Bake Food Smile Jan 23, 2014

Categories : Swiss | Bakery

I was at Prudential Tower attending a health talk. From the 23th floor, I was facing the west direction. From the direction, it was the view of the People’s Park Centre.

The host had catered refreshment from Swiss Bake. I love Swiss Bake pastries and sandwiches. I was even surprised to see wrap was also offered. The interesting part is the beverage box. Swiss bake use recycled bottle and there is a opening which can be screwed cap to flow the coffee and tea into the bottle.

When the host allowed the guest to open its refreshment, I could not resist to try the wrap first. I am afraid that the wrap was wet with the meat wrapped. However, it was not, it was rolled with ham and tomato. The wrap was too big for my mouth. I still enjoyed the wrap.

The next item which I tried was the egg and salad croissant sandwich. The egg was fresh and I could smell the fresh hard boiled smell. The ingredient used made it soft to eat with the crispy croissant. The next croissant which I took was the smoked chicken salad croissant. The meat was not salty. The croissant was still crispy and could hear the cracking fracking sound of the skin.

The mini Danish was good too. I tried the banana puff and enjoyed the soft banana filling. Though the banana filling was wet, it did not moist the Danish skin. The skin was still crispy.
The Swiss food is always fine and never disappoint diner.

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant | Burgers and Sandwiches

I was at Far East Plaza and decided to revisit the Burger Bar for lunch. I have being to Burger Bar many times and noticed that the crew was not the usual one which I saw. She was a young lady serving me at the counter and a masculine man working inside the kitchen, facing the hot grilled plate.

This time I ordered Brioche Bun with lam and choices of vegetables were shredded lettuce, tomato slice and pickles and a mug of French fries. The total cost is $10.

While waiting for my lunch to be served, I watched around the environment . I noticed for every 30 minutes, there is an expectation of customers to order burger. This shows the turnover rate was moderate.

I noticed that there is an ice cream and cookies fridge. I don’t know what ice cream as there do not see any customers eating the ice cream. However, the customers will pick up a bottle of canned drink such as Coke, mineral water. The drink costs $2.

At last my burger arrived. The French Fries were long, with a length of 5 cm and thickness of 1 cm. The fries were not fried till dry. There were some flesh and potato meat to bite. When the fries dipped with Heinz chilli sauce, the taste was perfect.

The burger wonderfully looked pretty. The bun was fair and yet soft. Fair as it was not overbaked but only the bottom part of the bun. When opened to see the ingredient, the lamb, the meat portion has thickness of 1 cm. It is minced lamb with onion. When eating lamb, one can never run away the smell of lamb. The meat was soft and juicy. I am not a red meat eater yet I considered the burger was well done. The only to get rid of the smell is to spread chilli sauce on the burger.

The vegetable was generous with large portion especially the pickle. This time, I could taste the sour pickle taste. That was what I want to neutralize the heavy meat portion.

I took my time to enjoy my meal as I was not in the rush to head to any way. I took about 30 minutes to enjoy the meal.

Wonderful Dinner Smile Jan 23, 2014

Categories : Singaporean | Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Restaurant | Buffet

I attended a seminar talk cum with dinner at Ritz Carlton, Millenia Walk . The dishes served were :
1)Canepes : Smoked Duck and Spinach Tart
2)Confit Salmon with Pearl Vine Tomato, Ocean Trout Roe, Micro Mixed Herbs & Korean Chilli Sauce
3)Clam Chowder with Poached Prawns
4)Baked Miso Cod and Tea Smoked Chicken
5)Duo of Royal Caraibe Dome and Ginger Flower Panna Cotta

The canapés were exciting with smoked duck with mango. It has red meat to neutralize with fruit. The spinach tart were solid yet easy to bite to fill the stomach before the late meal was served.

The appetizer was interesting. I had soft salmon with roe as topping. Then the tomato served as salad. The chilli sauce was yet a decoration the plate.

The soup was the clam chowder with prawns. It was a creamy soup yet not creamy. The prawn was sliced to half so it was easy to bite.

The cod was soft and juicy. However, the chicken was tough. I was given breast meat which I found it dried.

The dessert had two parts. It started with a chocolate dome. The chocolate was bitter. I believed dark chocolate was served and the arch was the white chocolate. The mini cup was the milky jelly. It tasted like the almond jelly with raspberry served as topping. I enjoyed the dessert.
The waitress were very active and experienced in meeting the needs of the diners. Service was good.
