There's not many customers frequenting this stall but I thought I should at least give it one chance. I ordered the bak chor mee which was at $3.30, a tad expensive for a coffeeshop...but that's the way things are going. The serving was quite small and the flavoring for the noodles quite tasteless actually. If you like a mixture of ingredients like the prawn and fishballs given, maybe you can try this. But I prefer my bak chor mee to be more authentic, concentrating on the bak chor stuff.
Noodles were cooked till a bit too soft too. Probably my last time here.

Will not try this place again Cry May 09, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese

My dining companion offered to treat me for lunch and wanted to try this place. Hence, I agreed to come. I had my reservations initially since my other friends did not like the food here but I felt it was still worth at least one try for me. (Thankfully also, the meal is free...)

We tried the deluxe set meal for 2, ($15++ per pax) which includes 1 main dish, appetizer and drink per person.

My dining companion was born in Taiwan and was really disappointed with their braised minced pork rice. Firstly, it's nothing like what is offered in Taiwan. Secondly, it's stated as minced pork, but we were given what looks like pork belly! We asked the waitress if this is really their minced pork, and she said yes, the minced pork are smaller pieces of the pork. Who is she trying to fool?

The snow bean curd was weirdly presented as slices. It's supposedly one of their signature dishes, but I found nothing special about it. It's just cold, slightly tough bean curd which did not taste great at all.

I've been to taiwan before and tasted their famous ah tiong mee sua, but I can understand if they cannot match their standard. I'm only expecting a reasonable quality, especially for the rather high prices of what are really rather common dishes.

The mee sua is probably brought in from Taiwan, as it has a similar texture to that I've tried before. The soup base tasted ok. However, the pig's intestines were probably not treated well, as they still had a bit of smell. Also, where are the meat balls??? I only found pig's intestines in my bowl. sad Felt cheated again.

The serving of bak choy was quite big but they were over-blanched, as you can tell from the yellowed stems. Which was a pity since the sauce they used were probably from their braised pork as I could pick out pieces of meat within.

The iced green tea that I had was a bit too sweet for my liking, although it had a strong enough green tea taste.

For a stall that supposedly sells authentic Taiwanese food, it falls really short of expectations. Definitely will not be back and also advise other patrons to avoid this place.

I was attracted to the bright & colorful display of a large variety of western food for the menu at this stall. Well, I did not feel like anything too fancy today, so I just tried the chicken chop with fried rice, which was priced at a very affordable $4. My dish came within 2 mins, which actually does not bode well. First up, the chef should have required some time to cook the chicken chop right? Thus, as I suspected, the chicken chop was probably not cooked fresh on the spot since it did come piping hot. It was most likely cooked once before and just heated up slightly before serving. Luckily the chicken chop still tasted alright. The sauce for the chicken chop had mushroom slices in it, but then there was no mushroom taste in the sauce itself, more just a one-dimensional salty taste.

The fried rice was not very hot as well - so it was probably prepared beforehand too. Thankfully, the taste was not bad as well and the rice was not too oily.

The peanuts that came on the side were too dry and a bit charred for some pieces. I did not like the salad as there was absolutely no sauce on the raw cabbage slices & carrot slices, so i left it mostly untouched.

Perhaps if you are not such a finicky eater like me, this will still be a value-for-money meal due to the rather huge portion of fried rice & chicken given.

Disappointing Cod fish set  Cry Apr 12, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

The first thing that struck me was the label of "cold" fish for the cod fish set. Oh well, spelling mistake aside, the picture on the menu looked good so we ordered a set to try. Interestingly, besides fries, there is also rice. That's really carbo-load. If the rice offered was butter rice or had some other taste to it, it will be fine. But instead only plain rice was offered which kinda makes the deal suck. Would have preferred just more fries then, without the rice. The fish pieces were small but thankfully were indeed made from cod fish which was pretty good. The crinkle-cut fries was just a measly bunch and the coleslaw had an overwhelmingly sour taste (which tasted like it's an over-addition of lemon juice - hopefully!!)

Generally, the cod fish was not able to save the rest of the dish...resulting in a disappointing meal. Perhaps you can just get the fish pieces themselves without any other sides?

Yucky ipoh hor fun Cry Apr 04, 2013
Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

This stall sells a combination of chicken rice & various herbal soups but I wanted to try another item offered - ipoh hor fun. At $2.50 a plate, the amount of chicken & vegetables given were quite generous. However, the sauce was too thick & did not taste good at all - in fact, it had a mildly sweet taste that did not agree with me. Hor fun itself was quite soft & smooth, but were stuck together in a mess. As for the steamed chicken breast pieces, they were bland and a bit tough. So, I will not advise anyone to order this item. Perhaps their soups will fare better?
