There was supposedly a 1-for-1 promotion going on from 11 November 2013 to 15 November 2013.

The poster for the 1-for-1 promotion was displayed right there. The Uncle smiled at me when he spotted me looking at the menu board. I finally settled for Double Pudding Milk Ice with Assorted Tapioca Balls (C6) and Mandarin orange, Pearls with Aiyu Jelly (H1). Both are for $2.50 each.

I was prepared to pay only $2.50 though a $5 note was given as i taken for granted that it should be 1-for-1 as stated in their promotional poster. I waited for my change of $2.50 but the Uncle was not giving it to me. It gotten me to wonder a bit so i asked. Uncle was telling me the 1-for-1 offer is only applicable to that particular one shown on their poster. I studied the poster again but there was no indication of so there. Uncle did ask me whether i want to change it. I went ahead with my choices as one of the desserts has already prepared and placed on my tray.

I felt the Uncle should have highlighted it when i placed my order. Anyway, what you see on the menu board is not what you will get.

The presentation of Mandarin Orange, Pearls with Aiyu Jelly was nicely illustrated as a pile of cone shaped shaved ice topped with slices of mandarin orange and pearls served on a plate on their menu board. What i actually got was a portion of Aiyu Jelly served in a big paper cup topped with a few slices of mandarin orange together with pearls.

When i dug further, the pile of shaved ice was right below the Aiyu Jelly. Those slices of Mandarin Orange were a little too sour to my liking.

The pearls have got the desired softness with just the right chewiness. The texture of Aiyu Jelly was delightfully soft too. Somehow, i do not quite appreciate the combination of Aiyu Jelly and Mandarin Orange though.

Apparently, the Double Pudding Milk Ice with Assorted Tapioca Balls did not fare too impressively as well. There were 2 types of puddings added in it. The brownish color one tasted a bit like Milo. The other has got a milky taste. It was served with assorted tapioca balls including those with filling but i could only differentiate the one with red bean filling and the rest tasted just the same.

The texture of both types of pudding was a tad too soft.

Their standard is comparable to Blackball though cheaper in prices but i do not like it enough to go back soon.

Economy Rice. OK Nov 17, 2013

There was another customer right in front of me when i was there to take away my dinner. This stall offers different Nasi Lemak sets for selection on their menu board. I did not go with any of the sets as i prefer not to have some of those standard items included in the set.

This stall was manned by a middle-aged couple when i was there. When it was my turn, i was served by only the Auntie. The selection of dishes was rather limited. After some thoughts, i decided to go with Stir-fried Brinja, Fried Tau Kwa and Curry Chicken Wing. I added a piece of Fried Chicken Drumstick too. I was charged a total of $4.50.

The portion for the dishes and rice was acceptable. The stir-fried brinja with fermented bean paste did not taste too fantastic. It was just plain. The fried tau kwa was about the same so not worth mentioning. The curry chicken wing tasted equally simple.

I was asked to choose between the coconut infused rice and plain rice. I went for the plain one. It was cooked well to give it the right texture.

But i enjoyed the fried chicken drumstick though. It was seasoned well then lightly battered and deep fried to give it the desired taste. It still tasted nice even after it has turned soggy.

Simple foods but reasonable priced so not a bad option.

I went in search of the original stall for the famous BBQ Chicken Wings that supposedly originated from Chong Pang. Apparently, this seemed to be the only stall in this area. So, is this the original Chong Pang BBQ Chicken Wings stall? There is no further clue to indicate this is indeed the original stall.

The Auntie did not seem to be too friendly for a small talk so i did not manage to obtain more information to satisfy my curiosity.

The minimum order has to be 2 pieces. I decided to take away just 2 pieces as i just had my late lunch there. The wing was cut into 2 pieces and packed in the brown paper bag with a packet of chilli sauce and a lime.

The average sized chicken wings were nicely marinated to give it the desired flavor before grilled it to acquire the delightful smoky taste. Though it was slightly charred on the skin but it has done it well to avoid burning the skin or getting it too dry for one piece. It has done nicely to leave a slight crispiness on its skin but still retained its tenderness and juiciness right within for that piece.

When i had the second piece, it did not taste as good as the first one. It was slightly more charred thus certain part was a tad dry.

I tried it with the chilli sauce given but i felt it actually tasted better on its own as the chilli did not have any effect in enhancing its taste to the next level.

I have no way to know whether is this the original stall but i would think there is a certain standard of their BBQ Chicken Wings though inconsistent. It might not be the best but it can still be rather addictive.

Fishball Kway Teow. Smile Nov 15, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

I was here for a late lunch at about 4.30 pm. Some of the stalls have already closed thus left a rather limited choices. I was excited when i spotted this famous fishball noodle stall. The aunties were seated at the table right in front of stall and chit-chatting there. I approached one of them to order for a bowl of dry kway teow with extra chilli added. I pointed to a table right at the corner when asked where would i be sitting.

There is a signage displayed in front of stall stating 'Add Noodle No Additional Cost' (加面不另收费). This is my first time to come across such a stall. Such an effort is definitely commendable. This is the kind of hawker stall that truly deserved our respect and support.

The kway teow and soup were served to my table in less than 5 minutes. It was quite a big bowl of kway teow for just $3. It was topped with a generous serving of bean sprouts to give it the desired texture.

I mixed the kway teow and beansprouts with the sauce underneath. Though extra amount of chilli was added but level of spiciness was rather well-balanced.

The cooking of the kway teow was handled perfectly without compromising its texture.

The taste of the soup was pretty light but further enhanced bya handful of chopped spring onion. There was a total of 5 pieces of fishballs in the soup. The handmade fishballs have got a noticeable bounciness in their texture and slightly bigger in size. It tasted fresh and delightfully tasty.

This stall is the right choice for a good value meal.

Chicken Rice. OK Nov 15, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice

I remember eaten at one of their outlets in Ang Mo Kio not too long ago and it tasted alright then. Though not quite expect to see their outlet in this food centre but i decided to take away a basic packet of chicken rice for $2.50.

I then stepped back a little to take a picture of their stall. Perhaps after seeing me taking the picture, the assistants seemed a little more attentive. They asked me whether i want to add a braised egg. They continued to ask whether i want any internal organs to be added or i want to add more rice.

I decided to add a liver for 0.50 cents. I paid a total of $3.00.

A good portion of liver was given. It was nicely poached to give it the right texture.

The upper part of the breast meat was chopped into a few pieces and served along with a few slices of cucumber. It did not taste too tough nor too dry but rather tender with a delightful chewiness.

The rice has got a slight yellowish color but a nice fragrance and rather grainy in texture.

The chilli tasted just average with a pretty mild level of spiciness.

A rather good choice if you happen to come in late evening when you do not have much choices left.
