Beef Stew Smile Dec 25, 2013

While at MBS, there was many restaurants to dine at, but most of them were either too crowded or out of my budget.

I decided to dine in at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf . I did not know that this branch had a larger spread of menu than other branches. I ordered the beef stew.

The beef stew came with 3 slices of bread which I think was too few and will not fill my stomach. The beef stew was well braised with the tomato gravy. The slightly fatty beef meat was tender and soft to chew on. I think some of the the vegetables were not stew together with the beef meat, it was hard and crispy.

Overall, the beef stea tasted good, though I would prefer they included more slices of bread.

Braised Beef & Tendon Noodles OK Dec 25, 2013

All the restaurant were crowded during dinner time and I was walking around to find an empty table. I managed to find a place to have dinner at Ruyi.

The Ruyi is a fastfood selling Hong Kong style food. I ordered the Braised Beef &
Tendon Noodles at $8.90. Although it was fastfood, I still had to wait more than 5 minutes for my order to be called for collection.

The Braised Beef &
Tendon Noodles Noodles appearance looked very braised in dark soya sauce. The taste of the beef meat was very good. It was very well braised to tenderness and softness, the jelly liked tendon almost melted in mouth.

The noodle was a bit disappointing. It tasted like ban mian. It was not springy or crispy and lump together.

Overall, the braised beef and tendon were very good but the noodle spoilt the whole dish.

Kaya Bun OK Dec 25, 2013

While waiting for my relatives to arrive at the airport, I went to have some snacks at Xin Wang Hong Kong Café at T3. I ordered the Kaya Bun. The staff gave me a table tag and I wait for the kaya to be ready.

The kaya bun was freshly baked, henece the outer skin was crispy. The inner part of the bread was soft but not as fluffy. The kaya spread and the butter slices given were little. The kaya tasted sweet with coconut aroma. The butter was oily and did not have butter fragrant.

Overall, the kaya bun tasted average, I would prefer to order kaya toast where the kaya spread was more generous.

White Cha Siew Tsuke Smile Dec 23, 2013

During the last weekend, Menya Musashi Kodou at Westgate was having a promotion, 50% discount for their Ramen. Hence, my friend and I decided to go there to have dinner.

I order the White Cha Siew Tsuke at $7.45 (after 50% discount). The order came very fast within 5 minutes of order. I wonder if they had pre-cooked all the dishes.

The broth and the noodles were put separately on different bowls. The broth was thick, salty and had dried fish-based taste. The noodles according to the menu was H-shaped, but it looked like just 2 strings of noodle stick together. The noodles were springy and chewy.

The char siew was different from the rest of the ramen stores. The meat was grilled and tasted of heavy black pepper. The meat was fatty and soft to chew on. It reminded me of Cold Storage BBQ pepper pork.

Overall, the White Cha Siew Tsuke tasted above average. The prices after discount was also affordable.

Mee Siam Smile Dec 23, 2013

Today I was at Bukit Merah and decided to go Redhill Hawker Centre for Lunch. Since today was Monday, many food stalls were not open. I remembered that a Mee Siam stall was featured in The Sunday Times, hence I went to search this stall.

I ordered a bowl of mee siam at $2.50. The friendly aunty always asking whether I wanted chilli or lime. I was very surprised when the mee siam came to my table. The serving was very big!

The mee siam had a nice sourish assam aroma. The mee siam's gravy tasted good, with dried shrimps, peanuts and assam. The chilli was also good with many dried shrimps inside.

There were many ingredients with the mee siam, whole boiled egg, fried taupok, fried tofu, fried tofu skin and fried mini shrimps. All of them absorbed into the gravy and tasted good.

Overall, this mee siam was very good with some many ingredients at affordable prices.
