Coffee Smile Dec 26, 2013

While waiting for my friend at Yew Tee Mrt, I went to nearby 1983 Cafe to have some drinks. The cafe was air condition. Since it was drizzling, I ordered a cup of hot coffee. The cup of coffee in this cafe was surprising cheap at $1.

The cup of coffee was piping hot, I had to use the spoon to drink sip by sip. The coffee had nice arabica aroma. The taste was also rich in arabica beans with no sourish aftertaste. The sweetness and creaminess of the coffee were also just right. I think the local staff was quite experience in making a good cup of coffee.

Overall, I was very surpised that this 1983 cafe sells good coffee at neighbourhood kopitiam prices.

Waygu Beef Croquette Smile Dec 26, 2013

There was some Japanese Food Kiosk inside the Isetan Supermarket. One of them was J Dining, which sells deep fried Japanese Food.

There was one item which caught my eyes, that was Waygu beef Croquette and it just cost $2.80! Hence, I bought one to try.

The Waygu Beef Croquette had a very crispy breaded outer layer. The crispy and fluffy texture of the breaded layer was similar to Tonkichi Restaurant. Inside the croquette was quite disappointing, there was much more potato then minced beef. However, the croquette tasted good. The potato was smooth and not powdery. There was some flavour of beef meat, but I was not sure was it waygu beef, as it tasted like just normal beef meat.

Overall, the Waygu Beef Croquette tasted good, though I was not sure whether there was any real Waygu Beef at this affordable price tag.

Tomato Spaghetti Smile Dec 26, 2013

I did not realise Greenzilla has opened near my housesince September 2013, until my mother told me about it. I always wanted to try their vegetarian burger, but their branch at Star Vista was not convenient for me.

This evening I went to their stall wanting to order their mini burgers, but was disappointed that they soldout before 7pm! Lazy to walk elsewhere to have my dinner, I ordered their Tomato Spaghetti at $4.50.

The Tomato Spaghetti had a heavy aroma of tomato puree and cheese. However, there was no cheese given. The white powder was actually wheat and it smelled like cheese. Though the taste was not cheese, it tasted like unflavoured popcorn. There were many slices of fresh mushroom in the spaghetti. The tomato sauce tasted quite sourish and the spaghetti was well cooked, not too dry or too soggy.

Overall, this Tomato Spaghetti was above average, better than other western food stalls in the vicinity.

Donuts Smile Dec 26, 2013

I was craving for soft, fluffy donuts and I remember that J.Co donuts recently opened a branch nearby my house. Hence I went to buy some. I bought two blueberry donut and one mango donut. The price was $1.70 each.

The donuts were very soft and fluffy in texture, it almost melted in mouth when eating. The donuts was not as sweet as Krispy Kreme. I liked the blueberry donut, the blueberry jam in the middle was sweet and sour. I did not like the mango donut, the middle filling was not mango cream, it had an oily and buttery taste.

Overall, I still prefer J.Co donuts over Krispy Kreme donuts, it was cheaper too.

Bak Chor Mee Smile Dec 26, 2013

After shopping at SLS for my computer accessories, I went to the basement foodcourt to have a meal. One of my favourite stalls that remained opened for more than 10 years was the Minced Meat Noodle. I ordered the Bak Chor Mee at $4.

This Minced Meat Noodle stall was very generous with the oil and lard. My bowl of Bak Chor Mee was sinful but tasted delicious. The noodle was oily, slippery on the surface and springy to chew on. There were also generous ingredients such as braised mushroom, sliced pork, minced pork, fish cake, fried wanton, fishball and even a sliced of abalone. Though the abalone tasted more liked a chewy clam meat. The soup also tasted good and flavourful with the seaweed.

Overall, this Bak Chor Mee was delicious with large serving at affordable price.
