aromatic peppery soup, tender meat falling off the bones, satly sweet kiam chai, fragrant stewed tau pok...all with steaming bowls of rice on a rainy night.. need i say more.

went to magma for my friend's brithday. we had a party of six and were attended to by a really friendly waiter. ordered the pork knuckle, german pizza and salads. i must say the servings are really large and we were kinda full by the time we polished off the 3 salads and four pizzas.

however, when the pork knuckles came, they were just too tempting to resist. the skin was crackled to perfection and the flesh underneath tender and juicy. it was so well done that it did not feel greasy as some pork knuckles do.

also the owner came over and chit chatted with us, this was a nice surprise,. he also recommended some really good german wines and we enjoyed it so much we bought a few bottles from the wine cellar that the restaurant also runs.

worth another visit

this restaurant tucked away in valley point along river valley road, boasts a really great buffet. for $30 u get free flow of sashimi consisting of slamon, tuna, hamachi, sea bass, octopus and squid.

the wait staff are friendly and attentive and the orders come thick and fast. the food is generally of a decent quality and this is a good place for when you get a raving for jap food....lots of it.

Accidentally came across this wonderful cakery in the most unlikely place - Bukit Ho Swee.

Was sort of intrigued by the name and went in to see what it was all about...The lady boss/baker, edna is really nice and explained that the shop does not sell over the counter, but took the time to explain what the shop had to offer.

Apparantly they cater to a pretty niche market of customised cakes i.e. cakes made with shapes or decorations to your specifications. They make wedding cakes and also customised cakes for birthdays, and corporate stuff.

I ordered a two tier cake red velvet / rich choc for my GF's Bday. Edna was really patient in responding to my many queries and subsequent changes in plan via email.

To cut a long story short, the cake was lovely and the guest all loved the very rich, moist yet surprisingly not cloying taste of the cakes.

Will definitely go back.
