value for money Vietnamese food OK Feb 16, 2016

Pho Street is a quick service restaurant with a vibrant dining ambience yet compressed seating arrangement, serving traditional Vietnamese food. Recently, they came up with Vietnamese Caramelised Braised Pork Belly with Rice and Egg Vermicelli - a slow-braised pork belly in sweet coconut juice to reveal the enchanting caramelised flavours, together with a hint of sweetness and spiciness from the chillies and black peppers. The pork belly is so soft and tender that the fats simply melts in one’s mouth.

I would say never judge a book by its cover with Banh Mi. Usually consist of a crusty bread stuffed with meat, followed by mayonnaise, pickled carrot & radish, cucumber, chilli and cilantro. Lastly, quench your thirst or spiciness with the refreshing fizzy Lemon Cooler with Peppermint and Basil. My favourite from the list, although I like lemongrass but I don't think Pho Street's pleases my palette.

Do not miss out on the array of Vietnamese street snacks offered such as Sesame Rice Crackers with Fragrant Minced Meat and Spices Dip, it absolutely taste better than it looks. The combination are heavenly, I wouldn’t mind paring it with a bowl of white rice even.

Korean Stew  Smile Jan 27, 2016

Masizzim (ma-see-sim) is yet another Korean food concept brought to you by K Food Holdings, also the folks behind Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory in Singapore. What distinguish them from other Korean restaurants would be their signature stews, Beef Rib Stew, Pork Rib Stew and Spicy Chicken Stew with price ranging from $16 to $32.

I highly recommend these balls! Rice Ball (Tuna or Anchovy) – DIY rice balls with medium-grain white rice stained purple from Korean black rice, barley, seaweed crumbs, crushed chilli padi, and a choice of Tuna (with mayonnaise and kimichi) or Anchovy. Here’s how you do it DIY with the gloves provided, mix the ingredients well and mould them into balls or any shapes you like. It would be a tough choice to pick which is nicer, and I really like both. One gives the extra crunch with crispy anchovy and the other is packed with flavour from the flakes of tuna mayo.

Quality Italian Fare OK Jan 27, 2016

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2016/01/ciao-haji-lane-bugis-singapore.html
Ciao@ being the newer kid on the block in Haji Lane, where you can find one of the largest range of quality Italian home-cooked food, cocktails and wines. Ciao@ has made it interesting that instead of whipping out your phones while waiting for your meals, why not flip the menu and engage in a game of Battleship with your friends and family!

When it comes to Italian fare, I always go straight to the Pizza/Pizze section. the 4 Stagioni [$20] - an enticing medley of ham, artichoke, black olives and mushrooms sits on the pizza base, the ingredients pulled together by the delectable tomato sauce. Best of four worlds? My taste bud was hooked on Tartufina [$24] - mozzarella with the heavenly truffle paste spread on a pizza base. This is only for those who loves anything truffles.

My other favourite is the Stinco Di Maiale Alla Birra [$38] - pork knuckle in beer sauce, served with mashed potato and white cabbage. It’s tender to the extent that the beer-marinated pork knuckle melts in the mouth, the best part is the meat falls off the bone; all you need is a fork for this dish. The mashed potato and white cabbage goes heavenly together with the pork knuckle.

More than just pies now OK Dec 11, 2015

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/11/pies-coffee-rochester-mall-buona-vista.html

They have introduced new items to their menu, let's start with some cheesy goodness and one of my favourite from the lot, Croque Monsieur, consisting of olive-accented focaccia with a variety of turkey ham and garlic turkey, béchamel sauce, mozzarella cheese and pesto sauce. Simply irresistible for me! However, it can be a little dry.

Another gratifying meal, Lobster Bisque Baked Rice where the lobster bisque sauce is made from fresh flower crab, prawn and slipper lobster jus. Even the vegetables such as onions, mixed herbs, carrots and celeries are stirred in a prawn stock before pouring over the charbroiled long-grain rice. No wonder it takes hours to carefully prepare this dish. Loving the sweet note from the crustaceans. It packed with chockfull of flavours in every bite.

No meal can be completed without dessert(s). Try their Sticky Date Cake, homemade toffee sauce drizzled over the dates finely chopped loaf cake, and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s a hit to my sweet tooth!

The place to go for jjimdak Smile Dec 11, 2015

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/11/andong-zzimdak-raffles-city-city-hall.html

Andong Zzimdak specialises in Andong jjimdak, a dish that originated in Gyeongsangbukdo, Andong, and jjim means a Korean steamed or boiled dish + dak means chicken. There you have it, a dish made with chicken, various vegetables such as potatoes and carrots, marinated in ganjang (Korean soy sauce) based sauce and simmered to perfection.
Medium size (shares 2-3pax)

Medium size (shares 2-3pax)

There are four types of jjimdaks and we choose the Boneless Jjimdak | $49.90 for Medium (shares 2-3pax) | $59.90 for Large (shares 3-4pax) - this is an alternative to their signature, the original ones with bones. This plate of goodness is filled with tender and boneless chicken thigh meat, carrot, potatoes and thick chewy sweet potato noodles, and marinated in spicy ganjang (Korean soy sauce) based sauce. Dokboki (rice cake) was an additional toppings at $3.90. You could also order additional noodles or steamed rice. It would really taste so much yummier if it was in hot pot style keeping it hot, especially it'll take time to finish savouring this big plate and the food turns cold after a while.

Although jjimdak are generally spicy, we don’t think it’s spicy at all, spicy lovers should probably go for Maya Jjimdak (spiciest with three chilli symbols whereas the rest are just with one chilli symbol). The food were served very timely, less than 10 minutes, somewhat like a fast food concept but with limited seating capacity and close proximity of the tables. Furthermore, it can get a little noisy after a while, not ideal if you want to have chats during your meal.
