Plus39 Gelato Bar Smile May 15, 2015

Categories : Italian | Ice Cream and Gelato

After a round of soft serve and yoghurt, today is gelato time.

This place is not too difficult to locate with this big gelato cone display.

Once you step into the shop, you will instantly be captivated by the renovation that makes you feel so comfortable.

Flavours of the day are written on the blackboard that is placed opposite the cashier counter for easy reference.

Enjoy their gelato on its own in a paper cup ranging from S$5.50 to S$9.50 nett or have it with sandwich at S$8.50+ for 1 scoop or S$11.50+ for 2 scoops.

Waffles are in their menu too. Waffle with 1 scoop is available at S$10+ but we went for 2 scoops instead.

Waffle + 2 Scoops (S$13+)
Waffles are made upon ordering so have to wait a little while for it to be served. Waffle is crispy on the outside with a soft textured centre.

The flavours we chose today are Hazelnut and one of their new flavour - Banana Choc Chips. Their gelato is very strong in flavour and melts rather fast.

The banana taste in the banana choc chips gelato is so strong its a little overpowering which makes the choc chips presence not felt. The hazelnut taste fabulous and goes well with the waffle.

Couldn't decide on the flavours? Approach the friendly staff for sampling before making your choice.

Poulet (Chinatown Point Outlet) Smile May 12, 2015

Categories : French | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Roasted Meat

Being a frequent diner at Poulet, I have tried most of the items in their menu. Following the majority, we visited their Chinatown Point outlet for a birthday lunch celebration.

Celebration starts with their popular entree and soup.

French Onion Soup (S$5.90)
Beef stock with caramelised french onion topped with cheese croutons, this taste a little more sour than what I have tasted before.

Escargot De Bourgogne (S$8.90)
Burgundy snails with tomato fondue and almond garlic butter. This is piping hot when served and the escargots matches well with the tomato and garlic butter maintaining the standard of this dish.
Yummy!

Two sides to go along with the meal.

French Fries (S4.90)
Birthday girl's favourite. It's really scorching hot so be extra careful when you bite it.

Marron Rice (S2.90)
Chestnut rice is a little dry in texture but its so fragrant that will make you finish it.

Here comes our gluttonous order.

Braised Pork Belly (S$15.90)
Served with mashed potato, baby spinach and double mustard, the pork belly is tender even the fatty part is melting and not oily at all.

Mushroom Pissaladiere (S$11.90)
Oven baked pastry topped with caramelised onion jam and button mushrooms. Fluffy and crispy pastry base is the main attraction of this with all the toppings complementing it.

Poulet Roti with Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce (S$15.90) - Half
The famous poulet roti in creamy homemade fresh button mushroom chardonnay sauce. Tender and flavourful chicken with the creamy sauce enhancing it. Sauce is really creamy, opt for other sauce if you can't take creamy stuff.

Duck Au Vin (S$15.90)
Braised duck thigh in red wine sauce served with carrot, bacon and mushrooms. Duck thigh was braised till tender and the red wine sauce goes well with it.

Yogart Smile May 07, 2015
Categories : Frozen Yogurt

Yoghurt and soft serve craze continues. Latest joining in the trend is Yogart, a dessert place serving locally handcrafted artisan yoghurt.

Occupying a small shop space in Burlington Square, there are rather limited seats for dine in.

The patient staff plays a vital role in providing good service by explaining and showing us the options they offer in the menu.

1. Delight
Small - Plain (S$3.20) / 1 Topping (S$4.20)
Medium - 2 Toppings (S$5.20)
Large - 3 Toppings (S$6.20)

2. Bliss (S$6.20)
1 Delish Sauce, 3 Fresh Fruits, 1 Crunchy Bite

3. Chic
Artisanal Popsicle (S$2.80)

Yoghurt popsicles - quite an interesting creation.

A variety of flavours are available. Mainly fruity but there are also sweet flavours like their latest addition - Nutella Banana.

Six choices available for selection under each category at the toppings bar.

Bites - Oreo Crumbs, Caramelised Cookie, Digestive Cookie, Almonds, Granola, Nuts&Oats Cookie.

Fresh Fruits - Watermelon, Kiwi, Rockmelon, Blueberry, Strawberry, Mango.

Homemade Sauces - Dark Chocolate, Rum & Raisins, Coco Bianco, Summer Berries, Passion Fruit, Mango Tango.

4. The Classic - Waffles
Deluxe - 1 Sauce + Frozen Yoghurt (S$6.80)
Premium - 1 Sauce + Frozen Yoghurt + 2 Fresh Fruits (S$8.80)

Many of us would have eaten waffles with ice cream before, but waffles with yoghurt is the first for me.

Hence, premium waffles is what I have chosen today.

Frozen Yoghurt
Their frozen yoghurt is soft and taste more sourish than the others which melts away quite fast. The crispy round wafer becomes their icon with their logo imprinted on it.
1 sauce + frozen yoghurt + 2 fresh fruits

Waffles and Fresh Fruits
The waffles are the non crispy kind. The sourness of the frozen yoghurt is a wonderful pair with the soft textured waffle making you feel less sinful and not too full after consuming it. In addtion to this, the mangoes are sweet and blueberries are really fresh.

Homemade Sauces
As we didn't want to spoil our first experience, we made a conservative choice of the Dark Chocolate sauce. The sauce is thick with a strong chocolate taste minus the bitterness of dark chocolate. Mixing it with the frozen yoghurt minimises the sourness in it.

Grateful to the staff who was really nice to give us a little of the Rum & Raisins sauce to try after we expressed great interest of it. I find its a little diluted with not much rum taste.

A quote from the shop "Yoghurt Makes You Happy" - and yes it does, at least for me.

Categories : Teochew | Restaurant | Seafood | Fine Dining

Another Sunday brunch of dim sum feasting. It's Imperial Treasure Teochew Cuisine's turn this time round.

We were lucky to be able to get a table immediately when we reached without making prior reservation. After placing our orders, complimentary Kungfu tea was served for us to consume before we start our food journey.

Feasting Begins!

Century Eggs with Pickled Ginger 皮蛋酸姜 (S$6)
Though it is not served with the usual yellow ginger, this chilled century egg pairing with pickled ginger displays how simplicity can bring out the best taste of the food.

Roasted Pork 脆皮靓烧肉 (S$10)
Roasted so evenly till there is crunchiness in every bite of the crispy skin. The meat is tender and neither too oily nor salty.

Baked Egg Tart 酥皮蛋挞仔 (S$3.60)
The light and crispy crust is so soft and fluffy that it crumbles off once you sink your teeth in it. One of the better crust that I have tasted and it's definitely the main attraction of this dish.

Steamed Rice Roll with Shrimp 鲜虾蒸肠粉 (S$6)
One of my favourite dim sum but the ones here are not so satisfying as the rice roll is too thick.

Steamed Prawn Dumpling "Ha Kau" 笋尖鲜虾饺 (S$5.40)
Another of the usual like the rest. However, the freshness of the prawns are rather prominent here.

Creamy and semi lumpy in texture, this taste too sweet even though I have quite a high tolerance level of sweetness.

So French yet so Korean. Paris Baguette, a Korean cafe famous for its wide selection of bakery products, desserts and beverages.

I was first attracted to their beautiful cakes at their Wisma Atria outlet few years back and visited them mainly for their cakes and breads thereafter.

Their selection has grown over the years and there are so many varieties that they are offering now.

The long overdue visit to savour their brunch menu has finally been fulfilled.

Cheese Omelette with a Difference (S$18)
Omelette is filled with spinach, gruyere and feta cheese. Spinach was cooked till soft and you can taste the cheese in every bite. The wedges are crispy and so piping hot that my tongue was scorched at the very first bite of it. No wonder this is their bestseller.  A very cheesy and tasty dish that all cheese lovers should give it a shot. However, felt that it's a little too cheesy to finish this all by yourself.
Cheesily delicious...

Cheese Egg Benedict (S$15)
Topped with bacon, halloumi cheese & cheddar cheese sauce, this egg benedict is the best that I have tasted thus far. Flame melted cheddar cheese wraps the egg yolk nicely preventing it from bursting but the yolk is so runny that it flows out with just a prick. The saltiness of the bacon adds flavour to this dish complementing the rest.
Runny egg...yummy!

Cafe Latte (S$6)
A shot of espresso + steamed hot milk. Coffee and milk lovers craving fulfilled at one go.

Freshly made mango puree + milk. Very strong milk taste and it does taste a little like the Indian lassi, minus the yoghurt.

Being an ardent fan of desserts, the meal is not complete without satisfying my sweet tooth.

Oh~My Baby Crepe~ (S$8)
Short cake with layers of crepe filled with fresh strawberries. A light and soft textured cake that is not too sweet.

Cookie Macaron (S$5.50)
New kid on the block - cookies and cream macaron ice cream. Pairing with ice cream, this soft chewy macaron does not taste as sweet as the usual. A very good creation that can compete with all the ice cream sandwiches out there.
