the bread is talking Smile Oct 04, 2011

Categories : Bakery

A common and simple food item being brought to a fashion show. The pepperdog from Breadtalk bears resemblance with the conventional hotdog bun we see in any other bakeries. However, the addition of cheese and herbs did give much visual satisfaction; earning them a higher ranking. What a pity the taste weren’t enhanced by the additional ingredients. Texture did improve though. The peppered flavoured hotdog used was too salty to allow the taste of pepper to stand out. Overall, thumbs up for the “dressing” and creativity but neutral for the taste.

No complains about the service. Indeed they are quite efficient. The queue moved quite fast. Prices are also reasonable. A must try is their pork floss bun. Soft bread heavily dust with pork floss. Highly recommended! The Bak Kwa delight is also a twist from the conventional. Something that you’ll usually see during Chinese New Year is now found in the bakery on a bread. Worth a try for their creativity but pork floss bun is still my top choice.

To conclude, these are great ideas and tasty breads for anytime of the day which are conveniently located in many shopping centres!

snack time! Smile Oct 03, 2011

Passed by this snack shop on my way home and decided to grab a bite. Instead of having my usual fav- yam pie, i decided to try the sotong ball. Apparently, the “all-time-favourite” has its name for a reason. The crispy crust married to the fragrant yam paste; it’s a delicacy! Anyway, back to the sotong ball. I felt that those found in fair price tasted better. The sotong ball is a little stiff and does not have the bouncy feeling like the sotong ball i used to eat. On the whole, the yam pie is very much preferred.

resemblances of New york Smile Oct 01, 2011

A well decorated place that resembles restaurants in America, spicing up the food under the theme of ‘The West’. Food is pretty tasty. A good combination of cooking method and spices that made eating not only for survival but for pleasure.

The black pepper chicken with potato ( $14.10) is a grilled chicken steak served with greens and baked potato. It is well-marinated with black pepper and topped with something like a bbq sauce. Taste is unique; a mixture of sweet and spicy with makes the dish very appetizing. The baked potato is a good match to the main dish. A simple food but brought to great taste. It is a must try!

The chicken pesto carbonara ($16.10) is a similar dish with a chicken steak baked with cheese and topped up with a tomato sauce, carbonara in cream sauce as well as some baked potatoes. However, the chicken is not as tender as the previous dish. It is highly recommended for big eaters as the serving is very generous and definitely worth the price especially when they have a 1-for-1 promotion going on now. A meal for two cost only $18.85.

Overall, this place is highly recommended. Great food, great interior, good value and good service. What are you waiting for?

A good experience at reasonable price, considering the location and service. Nice ambience and well decorated. It’s lovely! With these first impression, there’s much to look forward for in their food. Ordered a pasta and a side dish costing me around $20 in total. The service size is generous and there’s excess after filling my empty stomach. It would have earned even more marks if the saltiness is better managed. Nevertheless, the food served delivers high level of satisfaction. Love the creamy sauce!

Service was efficient and waitresses were polite. They were also pro-active in making recommendations which is good for customers on their first visit.

It’s a place for pleasure to the eyes as well as pleasure to the mouth. Get a friend and chill out there!

chilling out OK Sep 28, 2011

A place for a budget meal and to chill out. Student meal cost only $6 for a main dish, a soup and a drink. Well good for the pocket is one thing, good for the tongue is another. This is really disappointing. A mistake in the salt measurement spoilt the taste. The tangerine fish fillet I ordered tasted more like sweet and sour fish and the garlic rice is too dry. Texture of fish is just nice though. Their soup too.

Service is considered efficient for a “two-man show”. Though they didn’t bring the menu to us, food was served promptly after ordering. Waitresses were also friendly and polite.

Overall, it’s a good experience. Value for money, with a cosy environment but a little inconvenient.
