Company lunch OK Jul 05, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Hotel | Restaurant | Kids-Friendly

Just came back from company business lunch at Mandarin Court Chinese Restaurant. The view out from the restaurant is quite good since we are on 35th floor.

We start off with an appetizer trio - Roasted pork, wasabi prawn, steamed "siew mai" topped with fish roe. Nothing much to brag about the appetizer though.

The baked canadian sea perch with miso sauce is quite good though. The meat is not too tender and fragrant. Goes well with miso sauce. Followed by the sauteed duo mushroom with "kai lan" vegetable. It's weird that each bowl of the vegetable only contains 1 type of mushroom instead of 2 types as mentioned as "duo". So some of us got the button mushroom and some have the normal mushroom.

I like the fragrant fried rice with fresh crab meat, scallop, conpoy and egg white. Although i'm quite full but yet i can finished the whole bowl of rice! not oily as well.

The dessert - aloe vera with lemongrass jelly ( soury) is very refreshing after a hearty meal!

Packed home dinner OK Jul 05, 2011
Categories : Noodles

Fei Siong at Junction 8 basement was quite packed today, so i had my dinner packed and eat at home instead.

I like their fish ball "bee tai mak" soup. Fish ball is very "Q" and not much fishy smell. Clear soup is sweet and not too oily just nice for me. The handmade tau kee is a bit too soft though and not too crispy. Perhaps it's because i take away. So it's recommended to eat-in. They also have the handmade JUMBO size fish cake! Will try some other time.

simple and fulfulling meal. will definitely go back again smile

Company dinner OK Jun 21, 2011

Categories : French | Restaurant

In celebration of good business, we went to Au Petit Salut french restaurant for the company celebration dinner.

for Entree, i've tried the Seared scallops with cauliflower purée, green apples and spice emulsion. The scallops are very fresh and perfectly cooked! The spice emulsion and green apple enhance the flavour and brings out the best of the scallop i feel. smile

As for the main, i've chosen Crispy French duck leg confit, sautéed potatoes, bacon,
mixed greens and walnut dressing. I've tried other french restaurant duck leg confit before. So i must say this may not be the best duck leg confit afterall. To me, it's not crispy enough and not toothsome enough.

I would still have a second visit to try out other dishes though...

Service is good smile keep it up!

Yummy chicken rice Smile Jan 18, 2012

Categories : Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

Everytime i go to this food centre, there's always a long queue for this chicken rice stall be it lunch or dinner. Today i went early before 12noon, so the queue is quite short and i've decided to give it a try.

Well now i know why people always queueing for it! The "bai zhan" chicken is really very smooth and taste good. Comparing to other chicken rice, this is so far the best i've tried! They soup that they provide is a bit sour, but it kinda opens up the appetite.

Will definitely recommend to others but try to avoid peak hours like 12-1pm lunch time or 6-7pm for dinner time.

With just occupying half a stall space, this western food from Chef's Work is really a gourmet to me and selling at such reasonable price, it's really a rare find i say. At the front of the stall, i can see that they have got a few awards too!

They only open from 5pm onwards and for dinner to supper only.

I've ordered their Texas Grilled chicken chop. It's surprisingly good taste. Everything served on the plate was good! Crinkle cut fries was crispy and fresh, garlic bread was fragrant and toasted to perfection, salad was fresh and generous serving. And the main chicken chop with peppery sauce was good too!

will definitely recommend others to try if they are around Toa Payoh!
