Kolo Mee OK Sep 18, 2011

Categories : Indonesian | Coffeeshop

I've always like Sarawak Kuching Laksa and Kolo Mee...so today decided to head down to Bedok for Kolo Mee!

Although the taste is not as good as from Sarawak, but still ok and satisfied my cravings! smile
They give a generous serving of noodle, minced pork and char siew for a mere S$3.80 per bowl. Noodles are very springy and chewy but it's a bit saltish for me. Minced pork is well marinated.

Tried their sarawak laksa before @ S$4.00 per bowl, not as good as the orignal from Kuching as the laksa paste not so tasty. So i still prefer their kolo mee rather than their laksa.

Also they advertise selling self made bak kwa which they made using charcoal grill. Will try someday.

Try to avoid peak timing around 12-1pm.

I always frequent this restaurant as i like their noodle and dim sum! To avoid long queue and long waiting time, it's best to go there before 12noon. So today i went for brunch at 11am instead!

Plain noodle with seasonal vegetable comes in either soup/dried. I prefer the soup version. Noodle is very springy and not overcooked. Soup base is tasty too without the "kan sui" smell.

Simply love their roasted pork and egg tart! Roasted pork skin is very crispy and the meat is not too saltish. It comes with groundnuts too! I prefer to eat and have the original taste instead of dipping into the chinese mustard provided with the roasted pork. For the egg tart, they always serve it hot and crispy! not too sweet and portion just nice for me! simply yummy!

Steamed custard bun is quite nice too. However the baked BBQ pork pastry is not too favourable. Skin pastry isnot crispy and a bit soggy instead. The BBQ pork filling however is soft n fragrant. So it's not really perfect but acceptable to me.

Dinner at Nanxiang Smile Sep 13, 2011

Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum

This is my first time visiting Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant. Because i'm not quite a fan of "xiao long bao" so i've not visited this restaurant earlier.

However to my surprise, their food quality is quite good!

sauteed egg white with milk and crab meat - I personally like this dish very much. Tasted just nice and very healthy to me. Crab meat was very fresh and crunchy too! Combined with the egg white smells nice too! No wonder it's one of their signature dish!

dried scallop with shredded eggs soup- however this soup is just ok for me. Quite a lot of dried scallop in the soup but it doesn't have the sweet scallop taste. Instead it taste like wanton soup to me.

fresh pork filling steamed bun- Signature dish as well. Pork is indeed fresh and the soup filling taste good too!

stir fried baby french beans- A normal dish without any signature thumbs up in the menu, but to my surprise it's very good! "wok hei" is very good and very fragrant.

Golden pumpkin cake- This is my favourite dessert! The pumpkin paste is just nice and not too sweet. Also it's not too oily. Double thumbs up from me! smile

fried carrot cake  Smile Sep 08, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre

Another good find of fried carrot cake from the ever famous old changi airport road food centre. This is the traditional style/ singaporean style of fried carrot cake unlike the Hong Kong style fried carrot cake. I still prefer this type of fried carrot cake compared to Hong Kong style. Perhaps i've been eating this type of fried carrot cake since young.

There are two types of fried carrot cake- either fried it with black sauce or no black thick sauce. I've ordered the white version without black sauce. Saltness level is just nice for me and it's not oily. Good "wok hei" makes the carrot cake and eggs more fragrant too.

they do sell popiah too! but i have yet to try that out. Will try next time! smile

Do expect a long queue for this stall as well.

Pancakes OK Sep 07, 2011
Categories : Chinese | Hawker Centre

Vegetarian oats pancake specialist from Old Changi Airport Road food centre! They sell a variety of pancakes with different fillings like red bean, coconut, chocolate, peanut, cheese, lotus paste, pandan, salted bean and coffee.

To be on the safe side, i've ordered the typical peanut pancake. Don't be fool by the outlook of the pancake i.e like a bit over toast because of the darker dough presented. It's surprisingly soft and tasty. Only setback to the overall taste is the peanut. Too hard. Or perhaps, it's due to the way it is being cooked in the vegetarian way. Nonetheless, I wont hesitate to buy for a light bite with the easy portion.
