Shopfront of Pâtisserie Glacé

Shopfront of Pâtisserie Glacé

I have heard too many good reviews for this placed called Pâtisserie Glacé, decided to go down to the outlet at Icon Village to give the cakes a try. There were so many attractive cakes displayed that I had a hard time deciding which one to order, so I just kept my choices to the two best-sellers cakes which are Strawberry Soufflé and Othello.

The whole cake shop was a rather small one, with a wide variety of cake choices as well as other sweet treats such as their pies and swiss rolls. I was hoping that there could have been a few tables and seats for customers to have their cakes when served freshly.
Strawberry Soufflé

Strawberry Soufflé

The Strawberry Soufflé was a good choice, especially strawberry lovers should totally try this cake! The soft sponge cake was layered in very fresh cream and of course, fresh sweet strawberries made it taste even better.
Othello

Othello

Even though Othello looks really sweet, I am surprised that the rich chocolate and cookie cream was just nice, not too sweet and all. The moist and soft chocolate sponge cake looked very pretty by the side view. And the best part was the layer of cookie crust at the bottom of the cake.

I would definitely go back again to try out the other cakes!

Casual Dining for Beef Lovers! Smile Jul 08, 2011

As the shop name says it all, Lai Lai is a place for casual dining in the Taiwanese style. Whenever I visit there, I will definitely order the set meals which consists of the main dish, a side dish and a choice of drink at very reasonable prices.

This restaurant is often popular for their beef-related dishes such as noodles or vermicelli, whether in soup based or dry, it just seem like a main dish every beef lover would love to try!
Jasmine Green Tea with Pearls (Cold)

Jasmine Green Tea with Pearls (Cold)

The Jasmine Green Tea with Pearls is my favourite drink, as I prefer not to have a milky drink as it might be quite filling to finish to the both the drink as well as the dishes. So, for me, this drink tastes refreshing and the pearls are soft and chewy. A good drink to keep me happy before the rest of the dishes were served.
Fried Brinjal with Pork Floss

Fried Brinjal with Pork Floss

These two side dishes are totally worth trying. Firstly, the Fried Brinjal with Pork Floss tastes so good when topped with the fluffy floss. I never had a liking for brinjal, however, this dish made me satisfied as the brinjal was fried nicely with my favourite floss.
Pepper Salt Chicken

Pepper Salt Chicken

Another great side dish is the Pepper Salt Chicken, it tastes similar to fried chicken cutlets from those Taiwanese snack stalls. However, this is even better as it is served into small bite sizes for easy consumption. The pepper added is not too spicy for people who do not take chilli and children may like this dish too.
Stewed Beef Noodle (Soup)

Stewed Beef Noodle (Soup)

Finally, the main dish is Stewed Beef Noodle in soup based. The cubes of beef are really soft and tender. For the soup wise, it has a little herbal taste, so it might not be an ideal choice for those who do not enjoy such strong taste. My friend ordered the dry version of Stewed Beef Noodle and commented that the herbal taste was even stronger than mine.

Overall, I still enjoyed my main dish very much, of course I mean the whole set!

Swedish meatballs

Swedish meatballs

Swedish meatballs are always the first thing to come into my mind when I make a trip down to Ikea. This dish is a must-order, love how the meatballs taste so delicious together with the lingonberry jam and cream sauce. It also comes with sides - boiled potatoes which are also soft and good.

Do also take note of the ongoing promotion at Ikea, everyone can enjoy being meatball lovers every Tuesday (till July 2011) as they are going at $4 instead of the usual price of $6.50 for 10 pieces of Swedish meatballs.
Poached salmon with herbs

Poached salmon with herbs

The poached salmon was served and topped with a generous serving of herbs, which may not look that appetizing. But I am quite glad that the herb taste was not that strong, it was just nice with the cream sauce and boiled broccoli by the side.
Baked chicken leg

Baked chicken leg

For meat lovers, the Baked chicken leg is worth a try too. It is served with baby carrots, coleslaw and mashed potato as sides. I believe the mashed potato can be changed for baked potato, whichever your liking.
Daim cake

Daim cake

Last but not least, the Daim cake is a popular dessert in Ikea Restaurant. As named, this sweet slice of cake is made up of milk chocolate, covered with small pieces of Daim chocolate candy. A good dessert to satisfy your chocolate craving!

Exerior of Broun Cafe

Exerior of Broun Cafe

Broun Cafe is located along North Canal Road, which is walking distance from NE5 Clark Quay Station. The cafe can be easily spotted from its brown and white signage from afar. However, when I reached the cafe at nearly 12.30 noon, I was told by the waiter that they were only serving main dishes excluding wraps and stews. Yes, I was pretty disappointed as my friend recommended the wraps to me. So, my friend and I were only left with four choices of main dishes to choose from.
Inside Broun Cafe

Inside Broun Cafe

The ambience of Broun Cafe is good, and indeed it gives a homely feeling as mentioned in its tag line 'Wholesome. Healthy. Homely'. The interior looks really simple with a live band corner.
Herb Grilled Chicken

Herb Grilled Chicken

For me, I ordered the 'Herb Grilled Chicken' ($12) which is grilled chicken served with rosemary and their Broun sauce. Pretty satisfied with my main dish, especially the mashed potato and the leafy vegetables tastes good with the sweet sauce all over it. The grilled chicken is smooth and tender, I would recommend this dish to any chicken lovers!
Pan-seared Dory

Pan-seared Dory

My friend ordered the 'Pan-seared Dory' ($12) which is crispy dory fish with garlic seasoning. The dory fish is indeed crispy on the outside and tastes just nice on the inside. It does go well with the mashed potato as well as the sweet sauce from the leafy vegetables.
Broun-ie with Ice-cream

Broun-ie with Ice-cream

As we ordered the set meals which comes with a choice of iced lemon tea or canned drink as well as the dessert of the day. Hence, our dessert was the 'Broun-ie with Ice-cream'. The brownie was quite good, moist and warm enough to savour together with the scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

Overall, it was an enjoyable first visit to Broun Cafe. A good place to catch up with friends, maybe because it was rather quiet on weekdays afternoons. I would definitely come back to try the other main dishes, with the company of live band music!

Delicious raisin scones

Delicious raisin scones

On my second visit to 'Food for Thought' @ 8Q, I decided to try the raisin scones which were placed at the cake counter. These scones were served slightly warm, it went so well with the strawberry jam as well as the cream. The texture of jam was very sticky but it tastes really good with the scones, not too sweet, just nice.
Iced Milk Chocolate

Iced Milk Chocolate

I ordered a Iced Milk Chocolate drink to match well with my raisin scones. And yes, the chocolate drink came in a huge glass at such a reasonable price of $5.50 (excluding GST and service charge). This drink will be a good choice for chocolate lovers like myself, it really taste like good quality milk chocolate, as compared to the other Iced Milk I tried at other cafes. I would want to try the Iced Dark Chocolate drink on my next visit.
Love the interior of the place.

Love the interior of the place.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit there, always prefer the ambience at Queen Street rather than the one at North Bridge. Also, do give their main dishes a try too!
