Chocolate breads OK Aug 28, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Bakery

Dropped by Petit Provence for a packet of chocolate bread. There are ten chocolate breads in a packet and the chocolate breads are pretty big. The breads were very moist and soft. The chocolate flavour is relatively strong although it tastes like the cheap chocolate cream in those packeted bread rolls with cream. It didn't taste bad but certainly not the best chocolate bread I've had.

Chicken Katsu Don OK Aug 28, 2011   (Related Review)

The chicken katsu don is chicken cutlet with scrambled egg rice bowl. It is similar to the ala carte chicken cutlet with scrambled egg. The only difference its the smaller portion of chicken cutlet and it comes with rice.

Although similar, the chicken cutlet was pretty disappointing this time round. The chicken skin is very floury and it was cold when served. The sauce were UNDER the chicken and absorbed by the rice so I couldn't dip the chicken into the sweet sauce.

Like many dons (rice bowls), it is relatively inconvenient to scoop the rice up with the chicken on the top blocking the rice. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy the Chicken Katsu Don if you're looking to try the chicken cutlet with scramble egg. Try the ala carte even though its more expensive but it is better to have it seperated + it is a bigger portion.

Sushi lunch OK Aug 27, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

I decided to buy some sushi home for lunch. The sushi at sushi deli is pretty average. It is probably because of how long it has been since the sushi has been made..the rice was pretty sticky and dry. Considering more than half of a sushi is made up of rice, its certainly not a good thing for sushi. However, the fillings, such as the crab meat, roes and egg were of decent quality. Considering their sushi are reasonably priced, the quality is worth the money.

I've tried Prima Deli's fruit tarts and it was terrible but I thought it was because I kept it in my refrigerator for too long so I decided to give it a try again.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the problem with the freshness. It is bad. The crust breaks apart upon contact with anything, making it extremely hard to eat the fruit tart neatly. The whipped cream was tasteless. The fruits are relatively juicy and sweet this time round and although the overall tart for all 3 flavours wasn't good, I liked the combination of logans and strawberries on a tart. I've never seen that before so it was a fresh flavour. However, the kiwi was too sour and I couldn't stand it.

They are selling 6 fruit tarts for $4.20. Although it doesn't taste good either way, I'd recommend everyone to eat it asap after purchase. It tasted better when I had it on the day I purchased it than on the next day of purchase.

California Handroll OK Aug 24, 2011   (Related Review)

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

Like many other sushi restaurant, Ichiban Sushi will make the california handroll only when it is ordered. it is actually one of the few sushi that Ichiban Sushi offer that will be served freshly made.

The california handroll is average and the egg isn't sweet. However, like always, Ichiban Sushi is very generous with the ingredients and it is relatively filling for only $2.10. I normally have it after eating other sushi to fill myself up. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something filling at a low cost when dining at Ichiban Sushi. Otherwise, just try the other sushi they have if you're looking for something new. This isn't too special l:
