Infusion beer Smile Apr 26, 2017

The place was located within walking distance from the MRT station. The outlet was opened by the people behind Little Island Brewing Co. There was both outdoor alfresco dining and indoor aircon dining area. Selected indoor as it was quite a humid night. The outlet was well known for its beer infusion towers, so we decided to have a drink each since we just had our dinner. From the row of beer infusion towers, we could try the beers first before ordering. Since we were both female, we were recommended sweet and light beers which agreed with us.

Citra Sea Mead (S$15++)

Light with a slight salty taste.

All Rose Leads To Rome (S$15++)

Mead + Strawberry + Rose hip + Mint Leaf

5.5% alcohol

Fruity sweet in taste

Not sure if the drinks were too sweet as we kept getting tiny flies around even when we were sitting in the indoor aircon area. The place was quiet and not crowded.

Brunch Smile Apr 20, 2017

The cafe took over the space formerly occupied by House of Robert Timms. The restaurant had 2 dining area : the main one with the items display for sale and a smaller one in garden theme. As we were early and there was not much customers around, only the main dining area was opened. We had our choice of seat and decided on one of the egg shaped booth table. If you were in a big group, there was a table shaped like a egg tray with eggs in it. So cute.

"I'm Cold" Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict ($26.90++)

Poached eggs covered with smoked salmon. Drizzled with signature zesty hollandise sauce complete with mashed avocado, ebiko and tater tots.

The dish was served in a rather heavy frying pan. It was so cute having the eggs covered with the salmon slices. Looked rather cosy. The simple looking dish was not bad and quite filling too. One could barely finished it.

Shoyu Ramen ($21.50++)

Shoyu Ramen made with chocolate cake, chestnut Mont Blanc and Earl Grey Jelly.

Served with a side of panna cotta and sweetened rose tea.

The dish looked very nice. While the cake was moist, hidden under the layer of jelly, one could not taste the chestnut in it. The panna cotta was creamy. The rose tea was lightly flavoured, that the flavour was not distinct.

Finished the meal with Butterscotch Latte ($6.90++) and Matcha Latte ($6.90++) which both tasted rather average.

As it was Easter weekend, there was free boiled eggs on the table to help oneself to.

Dinner tasting menu Smile Apr 19, 2017

The restaurant was located at a corner of the hotel lobby, with 3 staffs 1 service and 2 kitchen handling the 18 seats dining area and a small open kitchen. It offered 4 course lunch tasting menu ($25+) on weekday and 5 course dinner tasting menu ($35+), as well as, a la carte brunch menu on weekend. To celebrate its opening, the restaurant was having a 40% off discount until 23 April 2017.

As it was dinner time, I only got to try 5 course dinner tasting menu ($35+). There was no GST but there was a 10% service charge. Only cash and NETs was accepted as payment.

Toasted walnut bread, served with blueberry yoghurt + Basil oil dip

The dip was quite a surprise combination and went quite well with the warm toasted nutty bread.

Butterhead lettuce, Parmesan espuma

It looked simple with just lettuce topped with foam, but the savoury cheesy flavoured foam really added flavours to the crispy vegetable.

Poached Mussels, Garam masala, Papadum, Parmesan

The mussels looked a tab small but were flavored and not too spicy.

Mushroom risotto, Truffle oil, Truffle dust, Shiitake dust

The dish smelt very mushroom when served. As a risotto dish, I was kind of surprised that it wasn't served with a spoon. The risotto was well cooked with a lot of different flavours from the assorted mushroom used here. Cooked in mushroom stock with chopped shiitake mushrooms, topped with truffle oil, truffle, shiitake dust, and dehydrated enoki.

Torched salmon mi cuit, Basil tomato concasse, Burnt eggplant

The cured salmon was undercooked just right and sliced through easily, giving it a smooth and buttery texture. The creamy sauce which made of burnt eggplant went quite well with the fish.

Mango, Coconut, Corn

The dessert was coconut ice cream, served with sweet corn, slightly touched mango cubes and topped with crispy crunchy red rice puffs. The ice cream was rich and milky, while mango was sweet and juicy. The rice puffs was quite unique as it was not the usual light and airy type. Instead it was more on hard side where one may felt that it was undercooked rice, but it smelt nice like pop corn.

Finished the meal with a glass of homemade drink.

Goji, Berry, Coconut
($6+)

The blended drink was served topped with tiny purple flowers. It was quite a refreshing drink.

Service was not bad. Water refilled from time to time.

Beef rice bowl Smile Apr 18, 2017

The outlet took over the space formerly occupied by Sushiro. Compared to Sushiro, there was no queue here during lunch hour. Menu was limited to a single sheet. Sides of the day was just 2 choices. Only cash payment was accepted here. No GST or service charge. Water was chargeable here. If you ordered green tea, help yourself to the hot and cold version at the counter. Place order at the cashier. Free sitting. Plenty of empty seats. There was just 3 couples of customers besides me.

Tokyo Gyuniku Don ($12)

Tender slices of beef on top of plain rice, with an Onsen egg in the centre. Mixed it up, the dish actually tasted not bad although I wished that better quality could be used here.

Lunch set Smile Apr 13, 2017

Categories : Italian | Bars/Lounges | Hotel | Pasta | Fine Dining

The restaurant was located at level 24 of the hotel by the rooftop swimming pool. The dine in area was small but cosy and cooling.

For weekday, the restaurant offered lunch set priced at S$25++ for 2 course and S$35++ for 3 course. I was showed to a table with a view of the swimming pool, plus a wooden stool to put my bag on. Looking the menu, I opted for the 2 course with a starter and a main course.

Started the meal with the bread basket, which consisted of a crusty bun, a squid ink bun, a olive bun and a couple of sesame seed crackers. It was served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Black Angus beef carpaccio with Parmigiano Cheese

The thinly slices of meat looked rather raw but lightly seasoned it tasted quite well with the strong flavoured cheese and greens.

Roasted baby chicken, bell peppers & truffle mayonnaise

It was nice that the meat was cut into small pieces which made it easier to slice for eating. The chicken was tender and quite flavourful. For a person who did not like bell pepper due to its rather raw taste, there was none here.

Ended the meal with a cup of rich coffee and almond biscotti.

Service was great with the staff asking about the meal, enquiring if I needed more sauce.
