Brunch at Jones the Grocer Smile Sep 10, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Café

Had brunch at Jones the Grocer @ Mandarin Gallery. i ordered sides of mushroom in addition to my simple egg and bread breakfast.

Even though the portion looks really small, its actually very filling because of the large slices of bread served and also the number of times my cup was filled with water (very prompt service). The mushrooms were actually really great while they were hot but after awhile when it started to turn cold, they became a little too salty and i had to add lots of pepper. With the eggs it was the opposite, i felt that it could have been a little more salty because it was rather bland. but not to worry, u can add salt and pepper to fit your taste buds.

Sinful dinner @ Fish& co. Smile Sep 10, 2011

The best side dish you can ever order at fish and co is their 'Mussels in Garlic Lemon Butter Sauce'. The mussels are fresh - all the time and they aren't stingy with their portions. The lemon butter sauce is absolutely heaven, it comes with bread so you totally should soak up all the sauce with the bread when you are done with the mussels. Eat fast though because if you leave the mussels hanging around for too long and they get cold, you are not doing this dish a service at all. Also, the bread would become soft and then it doesn't taste as good. This dish is normally served before your main course comes and from experience it normally lasts a few minutes before everybody starts fighting for the last bit of sauce to soak their bread in.

Best sashimi in town Smile Sep 10, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

In my opinion, Itacho sushi has the best and freshest sashimi in Singapore. After all the times i've been to Itacho, i have yet to find anything that wasn't impressive. Every slice of sashimi i had was fresh and thats a consistency thats hard to maintain. My advice is not to order main courses like the rice or noodles, instead, just feast on sashimi along and trust me, it costs just a teeny weeny bit more but its 100% more satisfying.Do also try their chawamushi- its even better than the ichiban version (which i love very much already).

The staff are also very friendly. I like to sit at the sushi table infront of the chef. If they aren't too busy, you can strike up a conversation with them, get them to recommend your next dish and also to give you tips about how best to go about eating sashimi or what each sort of fish tastes like.

Big O dessert Smile Sep 09, 2011

We had a pineapple upside down cake and a big O cheese cake at Big O after dinner in town. The Big O cheesecake is made up of 3 layers: Chocolate mousse, cheesecake and oreo base. It is absolutely heaven. And the best thing is, unlike many other chocolate cakes or cheesecakes, despite its sizeable portion, its surprisingly not difficult to finish by yourself. Finally a cheesecake that i can eat all on my own =) The pineapple upside down cake was a little on the sweet side, and the pineapple flavour tasted a bit artificial, so i didn't quite enjoy it. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream at the side.

Lai Lai @ Jurong Point Smile Sep 09, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Noodles

Though Lai Lai is more famous for its beef noodles, we ordered their set meals instead because it comes with a main course, drink and 1 side. For $14 you get beef noodle/ some special lailai noodle in soup as the main course. For $13, you get taiwan meesua or rice and pork as the main course. The taiwan meesua is served in a very small portion so hungry people, do try the other mains instead. The rice and pork wasn't as good as expected, the sauce was abit too oily, which makes the rice oily as well. The egg was great though, i think it must have been soaked in herbs for ages! For drinks they have quite a list consisting of bubble tea and fruit juices etc. Do try the jasmine bubble tea(img2), its even better than the normal milk tea bubble tea. For sides, the $14 set comes with nicer sides like the fried chicken, century egg tofu and cabbage. The $13 set comes with sides that are also nice, but just not as impressive like cold tofu, fried tofu, kailan, saba fish. We tried the cold tofu (img 4) which was topped with mince meat sauce - A MUST TRY. We also tried the fried chicken (img1) which had little fat and wasn't too oily - must nicer than KFC's popcorn chicken!

Service was a little slow though. They were quick to take orders and bill us due to the long ques waiting outside, but serving the food took very very long.
