Go Italian~ Smile Mar 13, 2013

My partner bought me to this restaurant as he heard they serve rather good cod fish and he knows i am a real cod fish fan.
The restaurant is located at a corner of the basement of Ochard Central, right beside the lift. We took the escalator which was at the other side, thus we took some time before finding the place.

The atmosphere inside is relaxing and high-classy. My friend ordered the 'Merluzzo Con Asparagi' for me, which is the cod fish dish he heard was nice. We were first served with plain water as we were not in the mood for their wines. A piece of garlic bread was also served to us. I must rave to you how simply delicious the bread is! The bread was really thin and crispy unlike the usual thick, chewy baguette type. It was baked warm and the garlic seasoning on top has hint of garlic flavour that is so pleasing to taste. I know it is just a complimentary starter, but i just cannot forget the simple yet extraordinary taste!

After the lovely bread, i was really looking forward to my main course. However, it took really long. My partner was halfway through his meal, while the customers behind me were also digging into their meal already. After enquiry, the serve apologetically told me the chef has burnt my fish and i have to wait 15 mins more for them to prepare a new one.

When my dish finally came, i was more than ready to tuck in. I am pleased with it though not impressed. From their description in the menu, i was looking forward to my 'baked chilean cod in pistachio crumble with asparagus, parsnip and pear puree in lemony white onion fondue'. My dish came with a satisfying piece of cod with the skin baked really crispy while the meat was moist and sweet. The cod was served on top of the puree which was mixed with quite a lot of sweet onion pieces in it.

My dish costed about $45 after gst and svc. I am happy that i at least tried it once, but i doubt i will be visiting again.

Nice flaky coconut tarts Smile Mar 13, 2013

Was craving for nice coconut tart when i chanced upon them in this shop. I was apprehensive to buy it as i find their quality is not consistent. Sometimes, their tarts are really good, but sometimes, their tarts doesn't rise well, resulting in dense layers that are more chewy than flaky.
Decided to give it a chance and bought one. My first bite assured my tastebud that this is really good stuff. The crust was flaky and melt-in-your mouth, the coconut filling inside was sweet and moist. It was also adorned with a slice of red cherry piece on top.

My appetite for it has definitely been satisfied. smile

I LOVE Traditional Bakery =) Smile Mar 13, 2013

When Thye Moh Chan had closed their previous branch and announced that they will be close for good as there is no one to continue the line, i was really upset as i felt that a piece of tradition in Singapore is gone. Thus, i was really excited to try this shop after hearing news that it has partnered with Breaktalk Group and revived the tradition.

This shop at Chinatown Point is brightly lit and rather modern, but the furnish still has a touch of traditional feel. They have a lot of different types of pastries available. Just focusing on Tau Sar Piah you will already have around 8 different types! I ordered a box of eight with assorted flavours. There were the salty or sweet tau sar piah, yam, cranberry, mixed nuts, yuan yang, red bean, etc. I find that all is good, but the yuan yang lives me the most impression as it is the most unique one. It consist of salty tau sar with spicy pork/chicken(i m not sure which they used) floss.

Recommended to try at least once, though they are quite expensively priced at $1.60 per piece.

I was shopping around Bukit Panjang Shopping Centre when a 1-for-1 promotion banner outside this shop caught my interest. My mom and i went in to partly have a taste of their dessert and partly to rest our feet.

Both of us wanted the Sweet Potato Soup, but it has already ran out despite being only around 3pm. On recommendation that their Barley Beancurd is of Hong Kong style where all the beancurd skin are melted and not like some other dessert shops where you can see pieces of beancurd in the sweet soup, we decided to try it.

The Barley Beancurd really comes smooth, seemingly like almond cream texture. In this beancurd skin 'cream' lies whole barley pieces which was cooked to the right texture, soft but remain their bites.

A different kind of barley beancurd from my usual tries. Satisfying.lol

FYI, they are also very thoughtful to put a water dispenser at the back of the shop which you can get cool water (self-service, free of charge).
Do note that the 1-for-1 promotion is only available during weekdays from 2pm to 6pm. Recommended to go early in case the dessert you want runs out.

smooth cheesecake Smile Mar 11, 2013

Chef Icon Boston Cheesecake is really smooth and creamy. It is rich enough to satisfy your cheesecake craving, yet light enough not to make you feel jelat even after 2 slices. I had the Mango flavour one in the picture. There were cubes of real fresh mango in the cheesecake. The base was a moist sponge cake instead of the more common cookie base. They are sold in slices in their shop but only a selected flavour is available daily. If you want a specific flavour, you can order a whole cake from them.

Their tiramisu is also not to be missed. The make the tiramisu without gelatin, eggs, coffee and liquor, Instead, it is made with alternating layers of top grade Italian mascarpone, home-baked Italian biscotti and finished with a layer of Belgium dark chocolate. A very good option for people like me who doesn't like coffee.

Healthy and delicious indulgent. However, do note that they are not cheap as the quality of the ingredients they used are really good.
