Pastamania Delivery OK May 29, 2013
Categories : Italian | Pasta | Halal

It was noon and as I did not felt like cooking, I decided to order Pastamania via delivery. Ordering was fuss-free using the internet, and the food arrived in approximately 45mins. The food was still warm when it arrived, and utensils were provided with a packet of chilli flakes and cheese. They even provided me with a packet of tissue paper, which had the word reserved stamped on it. Uniquely Singaporean! Haha, as it could be used to 'chope' a seat when we dine out.

Back to the food; I ordered a Turkey Bacon Cheesy Crumble (S$8.10) with Spaghetti. I like the fact they allow customers to choose from a range of different pasta, depending on what you prefer. Not only that, customers with a big appetite could upsize their meal too. Delivery charge was an additional SGD3, which was a tad expensive in my opinion. Minimum order was SGD10, so I ordered a drink - Minute Maid Pulpy Citrus, which cost a hefty S$3.40, compared to supermarkets selling it for about S$1.45. However, since it's delivery and to my convenience, one should not complain. tongue

The Turkey Bacon Cheesy Crumble was quite dry, probably because all the sauce was already soaked up by the pasta during delivery. The bacon was also hard and dry, and I had a hard time biting them. Cheese sprinkled on top was really little, and luckily they provided a small packet of cheese to add on. The spaghetti was was cooked just nice though, and portion was just right for me; not too much or too little. smile

Overall, I would not order this again as I felt the bacon was not to my liking, and I had a hard time eating it. I would try their other pastas next time.

It was Mother's Day and I decided to treat my mum to a meal at Empire State. It was dinnertime, so there was quite a long queue. We queued for approx. 20minutes before we were ushered to a table for 2.

The restaurant was full, and there were limited staff. It took me a good 10minutes to catch the eye of a staff before he came over to take our orders. We weren't served any water and there were no utensils for us when the food came. We even had to use our own serviettes as they were just too busy to set the tables. The place was also quite hot as there was no air con, and with the crowd, the heat was quite unbearable.

I ordered their fish & chips, which came with a side salad and mashed potatoes. The amount of salad given was pretty pathetic, but the taste made up for it. The veg was fresh too. The potatoes gave a really smooth mouthfeel. The fish fillet was crunchy but a tad oily, and although it looked small, I was really full after finishing it.

My mum ordered this mushroom pizza for herself. We thought it was a small portion, but it was so big it looked more like it was for 3 people. Nevertheless, my mum enjoyed it so much she ate 6 out of the 9 slices. She gave me a slice, and after eating it, I could see why she enjoyed it. The pizza was just the right texture, not too hard or soft. The amount of cheese added on top was just how I loved it; you could taste it in every bite! It was simply heavenly.

Last but not least, we ordered drinks each, an ice chocolate for me and a root beer float for her. The serving for my mum's float was huge! I took a sip and the taste was divine! One can't go wrong with root beer and vanilla ice-cream! tongue My ice chocolate was not bad too. It was chocolaty and had bits of chocolate biscuits in it. Managed to finished it all although I was full to the brim. smile

Overall, the food was not bad, but their service could be better. It will be some time before I go back again as I'm marred by their service; I had to go to the counter and pay because the staff was too busy to bring us the bill.

Tea break at Burger King OK Apr 17, 2012
Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal | Burgers and Sandwiches

Was getting some stuffs from Cineleisure and Scape, and after walking for some time, I felt hungry and tired, so decided to rest at Burger King for a while. There was alot of ppl there, but luckily I managed to find a table without having to wait long.

Decided to get some chicken tenders to munch on as I wasnt so hungry as to want to have a burger. It came with a sauce called Kung Pao, and I laughed when I saw it. The name was hilarious! However, as I wasnt the kind who is adventurous and like to try out new stuffs, I didnt touch that sauce at all. Thinking back, feel abit regretted as Im curious as to wat it taste like. mad Thus, had the chicken tenders on its own. They werent hot or warm either when I ate them, and not crunchy at all. Kind of disappointing, but maybe they were supposed to be like that since the name was chicken 'tenders'. The meat inside was soft though, but abit dry. There were about 6pieces inside, which made me really full after i finished them all!

Overall, ok taste but at least it managed to fill my stomach till dinnertime. smile

Dinner @ Mac! OK Apr 14, 2012
Categories : American | Fast Food | Ice Cream and Gelato | Burgers and Sandwiches | Kids-Friendly

There wasnt any dinner at home as my mum was out late, so sis and I decided to grab a bite at Causeway Point Mcdonalds. Each of use ordered a set meal, Mcspicy for me, Filet-o-fish for her. They were offering twister fries if you upsized your meal, so I decided to upsize mine to get the fries (2 different fries, better than eating 1 kind) mad

The fries were left there for quite some time, so they werent those piping hot kind. There was too much salt for the normal fries though, and although the twister fries had no visible salt on top, it was pretty much as salty as the normal one. Taste wise, the normal fries was nicer than the twister fries, the twister fries had a cheesy like taste that I didnt really enjoy (even though I love cheese).

My Mcspicy was very hot though, burned my tongue when I was eating it. It was very spicy, but juicy at the same time. smile

Overall it was a full dinner for me, will try their new burgers they just came up with the next time I patronize. smile

1st Visit to Mayim OK Apr 12, 2012
Categories : Dim Sum | Noodles

It was my first visit to Mayim, and I certainly would go back again. As to why, you'll find out below. smile

Had met-up with my classmate and as she was craving for dim sum, she recommended going to Mayim, saying it was nice and the price was reasonable. When we reached, there was a short queue but it was our turn very quickly. We got a side table and I saw that the plate was really cute! The menu was full of delights, SO MANY CHOICES TO CHOOSE FROM! I had to think for a good 10minutes on what I wanted to order bcos I felt like ordering all the items, the photos simply made them look too appetizing. After a long while, I finally decided on a plate of dried noodles with roasted duck, and my friend ordered some dim sum for us to share. I also ordered a Milk Tea to go along with my meal. The dishes were served really fast. smile

Duck Noodles
The noodles is worth the money. Noodles were springy, and the roast duck was not too hard. The sauce to stir in the noodles was flavourful too. Only thing was the veg was too little for me. mad

Dim Sum
The xiao long bao was really juicy, the juice just burst into your mouth, full of flavours. A tad too salty though. Ingredients used were fresh. smile
The bacon and spring onion pastry was really dry, and pastry was too thick. Too much spring onion and too little bacon. I didnt really like this, so only ate about 3 mouths.
The prawn dumpling was my favourite. Although the skin used was abit thick, The prawn was juicy. Piping hot when I ate it, burnt my tongue. tongue
Lastly, there's bbq chicken bun, but I felt abit 'cheated' by the name of it, as it was char siew inside. Same thing as the other dim sum, the skin was too thick, very little fillings.

Milk Tea
The taste was not wat I expected. It had a more 'tea' taste, while I was used to the 'more milky' taste. I didnt like it during the 1st few gulps I took, but slowly it bcame nicer to drink. Haha, so in the end, I drank it all up. smile

Overall, although the dim sum wasnt that nice, the price was considered low as compared to other places which have dim sum. Their main was nice, and there's so many choices of food you can choose to eat. Thus, the next time I go, I will try their other dishes available. smile

One thing to note: They serve pickled veg once you sit at a table, and for that, it cost each person 50cents, and another 30cents per person for wet tissue. I didnt really like this as it all adds up in the bill, and these arent necessary. Thus, if you don't want them, you'll have to tell the waitress in advance. smile
