It was my best friend's birthday & my friends and I decided to treat her for dinner. We wanted a place where we could relax and chill out and so I immediately thought of this boardgames cafe. I had went to this cafe before & enjoyed myself tremendously during the time i was there, so i quickly made a reservation. smile Turns out there was no need for a reservation, there wasn't much customers when we arrived.

We immediately settled down & got some boardgames from the shelves, there was soo many games to choose from, making it super hard to decide which one we wanted to play, so in the end brought 4-5 different games back to the table, haha. smile The staff were really polite, plus they were really patient when explaining games you don't know or understand. smile They even helped us light the candles on the cake we bought outside, nt from them!

There are different packages we could choose frm, ranging from those with free flow drinks to those that came with a full meal, prices were also quite reasonable. We chose their Mind Mega Meal Package ($16.50) that came with free flow drinks (4 flavours to choose from, & can change flavours), a main course & either soup/salad + 3hrs of unlimited boardgaming. They also have sides for you to order if you don't feel like having a full meal.

Th 1st time i went to this cafe, my 1st thought was 'since it's a boardgame cafe, it should focus more on the array of games they had, not the food, so i supposed it isn't that nice'. However, this cafe actually proved me wrong! They served really nice food - both nice to see & nice to eat! I was actually quite surprised that their food was so nice! tongue Their tom yam roast chicken with rice is a must try! The salmon pasta is also very worth the money spent! smile

This is the place to go, for both nice food, great service + nice place for boardgaming! smile

Crazy Queue-ing for Dim Sum!!! Smile May 29, 2013

It was Vesak Day and since it was a public holiday and I did not have to work, my friends and I decided to go down to Plaza Singapura to eat the famous Tim Ho Wan dim sum. We have heard many rave reviews about it and decided to check it out ourselves.

Maybe because it was Vesak Day and many people have gone to the temples to pray, the queue was surprisingly not that long, and to think it was dinnertime (6pm). Nevertheless, we weren't complaining about that, since we get to eat faster. tongue After queuing for approximately 1hr (which we thought was okay since people have queued up to 3hrs), we were ushered to our seats. The restaurant itself wasn't very big, and due to the crowd, some people had to share tables. The tables that were separated were quite close together too, so there wasn't much privacy. Luckily for us, we got a table at the far end corner. smile

The menu itself was not very extensive, and after ordering 2 rounds of dim sum, we found that there wasn't anything we wanted to try already. Service was good though, despite the crowd. Price wise, their food start from $4.50/basket/plate, which was quite affordable considering that it is a Michelin 1* restaurant.

Char Siew Bun: This was admittedly the best among all the food we tried. Despite having really little filling in it, the outer crust made up for it. It is crumbly and buttery, and goes well with the char siew filling. The char siew had just the right among of oomph to it. It was so delicious that we actually bought another 2 plates to takeaway. No wonder there's a limit to how many plates a table can order for this. And although the staff said they don't pack takeaways, customers who wanted to bring the food back were given a takeaway box to 'tabao'.

Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce: This was another dish that I liked. The chicken feet was cooked just right, sweet and soft. With the black bean sauce, it was just heavenly!

Prawn Dumpling: The prawns inside are HUGE! I've eaten at countless dim sum places, but this is the 1st time I've eaten prawn dumplings that have such big prawns. Not only that, they are succulent and fresh! Only thing is, I don't really like the skin of the dumplings. They felt abit too tough and dry for my liking.

Pork Dumpling with Shrimp: The taste was so-so for this dish. Maybe it's just me, but the taste didn't hit a chord with me. I only managed to eat one and gave the rest to my friends.

Overall, I felt that the food was ok, but I certainly will not queue again if the queue was long. Will patronize again for the Char Siew Bun, but only after all the hype have died down.

Went specially to Wave House Sentosa for dinner as I heard the place serves up some really nice pizzas. The restaurant was empty when I went there with my mum and siblings, except for some ppl, mostly expatriates, sitting outside on the benches talking. Not sure why, but I tink it could be due to the rain and it was Deepavali too.

The restaurant was dimly lit, with a candle on each table. The designs on the table matches the designs on the ceiling, which was pretty cool and nice.

Ordered the Hoisin Roast Duck Pizza and BBQ Chicken Leg Pizza each, and they took quite a while to arrive although there wasnt any customers. The pizzas were thin-crust, which i liked better than those with thick crusts. The Hoisin Roast Duck Pizza was really really delicious, the sauce on it went really well with the whole pizza, and we ordered a second one after we finished it. The BBQ Chicken Leg Pizza was not bad too, with quite alot of ingredients in it. All the pizzas came piping-hot. The only thing was the table was pretty small, so after putting 2 pizzas on it it was really packed with all our plates and glasses.

Service is good, the waitress refills our glasses whenever it is running low. We get to see ppl 'surfing' too, which looked like great fun. Hope to have a go at it too nxt time if possible.

Cool place, will go again if have the chance, as the food there aren't really very cheap. mad

Goldilocks @ USS! Smile Sep 19, 2011

Categories : Singaporean Western

It was my 1st time to Universal Studios Singapore; my mum had booked a 3D2N package to stay @ Festive Hotel, & their family room was just nice for our family of 5. The 2nd day of our stay, we went to Universal Studios, where my younger brother & sister were dying to try out the roller coaster with the blue & red track.

When it was lunchtime, we were in Far Far Away (a part of USS). My mum was feeling giddy after taking the roller coaster so we decided to dine at Goldilocks, which was just a few steps away frm where we were. Inside, my mum rested & i went to order a family combo, which comsisted of 8pcs of chicken in a bucket, mash potato, fried bun, and soft drinks. My dad ordered a vegetarian burger separately. The food here are very expensive (as expected), since its in an amusement park. The gd thing is that they have quite a few combos to choose frm, so it's quite a gd deal smile

My dad said the burger was nice, the patty in it is like made from tofu & different kinds of veg, quite unique. The chicken we had was very oily (i had to use many serviettes to wipe off the oil frm the chicken shocked). The fried bun that came tgt with the combo we bought tasted just like ordinary bread, nothing special except that it was fried. However, their mash potato was really nice, its really like those 'home-made' kind! smile

Do refer to my photos to see the food! smile
Hope i'll be able to come USS agn to try other food! smile

Jack's Place! OK Sep 19, 2011

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

It has been a long time since I met my classmates, so we decided to meet up and have dinner together. As we all stay near Woodlands, we decided to go down to either Causeway Point or Civic Centre to have dinner. It was dinnertime, a peak period for restaurants, so there were long queues everywhere. We decided to go over to Civic Centre to see if there was any places which was less crowded so we didnt have to wait very long.

Jack's Place was the only place we could find that didnt have a queue, so we went & requested for a table for 2. The prices there was considered high for western food in heartland malls, so it could be considered fine dining? tongue

My fren ordered the prawn and chicken spaghetti ($14) while i ordered the baked rice with chicken & slipper lobster ($13.50). The food took a while to arrive so we used the time to catch-up with each other. There was also a basket of garlic bread (3slices) which was provided. I ate a slice while my fren didnt as she didnt liked garlic bread. The garlic bread was not crunchy as I tot it would be, & it was actually quite hard (i didnt really liked it).

My fren wasnt able to finish her spaghetti as she had dinner before she met me, while I loved the chicken and slipper lobster baked rice. The amount of cheese was just nice to my liking & there was plentiful of chicken in the rice. smile

Do try to take the MRT to Woodlands Station if possible. smile The carparks for both Causeway Point & Civic Centre are alwys full during peak hours.
