This is the kind of restaurant I would not have tried on y own. But I was lucky to be brought here by a friend who knows the chef well and we enjoyed a Christmas dinner here.
Cold Pasta with grilled prawns - I was a little apprehensive about cold pasta but as a starter dish, it was refreshing and light. The prawns were grilled perfectly and super tasty.
Lobster Bisque - nice thick soup, piping hot, served out of a tea cup. Delicious!
Beef Steak - its a thick medallion that is nicely seared on the outside but pink and juicy on the inside.
Lava Cake - Good molten cake with soft inside, beautifully coupled with vanilla ice cream.
It's not a cheap dinner so only for special occasions then.

Fresh Crab Smile Mar 13, 2014

Honestly the food here is good. Of course it's not cheap but not crazy-Jumbo prices either. The items that we're oh-so-good were:
1) Crab in Broth - we paid for extra Beehoon and soup and it's super worth it! The broth was thick with favour and the crab, tho not huge, was fresh. The flesh came apart nicely  and easily. Indication of freshness to me. Easily best dish of the night.

2) Guinness Pork Ribs - very well marinated ribs with excellent taste. Doesn't taste like Guinness at all. Very very tasty dish.

3) Broccoli with Beancurd Skin & Mushrooms - it's essentially a very simple dish but don't very very nice!

4) Creamy Butter prawns - it's really prawn in thick salted eggs sauce. What's NOT to like?! Large fresh prawns in savory sauce! Makes you wanna scoop up all that sauce after you're done with the prawns.

Other dishes are decent but the above of special mention worthy.

Will be back again. smile

Though there are many makan places here, have chosen to spend my $$ on Uncle Ben instead, an a small encouragement to do the good that he pledges to do.

We ordered:
1) Pasta in Spicy Tom Yam Broth - my fav dish of the meal!!! I created this meal with fusilli and salmon. This dish surpassed my expectations! My salmon chunks were seared and there was a generous number of chunks in it!!! The broth is also very tangy and enough spice to be called Tom yum. Love love love it!

2) Chicken Soup of the Day & Garlic Bread - the soup is honestly not bad, can see the chicken chunks but likely to be canned soup with add-on goodness. The garlic bread was also nice and I love the retro enamel plate it's served in. heh!

3) Beef Bolognese - 1st that that struck me was how it had a generous  amount of beef sauce over the pasta. The sauce is a tad too sweet for my personal liking but its nice enough, nicer than some other places.

4) Kid's Meal Chicken Burger - the chicken patty is not some frozen minced junk but a lovely chicken fillet that's pan-fried nicely. Serving enough for a small adult eater or ladies wanting to watch their diet.

5) Cheese Platter - fried finger food with pot of soft cheese fondue to dip in! Wonderful indulgence! Highly recommend this!!

For a non-premium restaurant, it's pretty good and prices are also very decent. Plus I salute Chef Ben for his cause, how not to come!?!?

Great Turnaround... Smile Feb 05, 2012

Good friend got vouchers for this Korean BBQ restaurant but I went online to read very poor reviews. We couldn't pull out as the vouchers were bought so we thought we'll just go and try it for ourselves.

First plus point was that their grill plate is placed at an angel so the oil will drain off nicely.

2nd plus point is the good spread of food. I dare say the marinate is as good or better than seoul garden. After the feedback from patrons, the management really kept to it's promise of maintaining the food portions to at least 70% full. Even near closing time, the spread is still there.

We were done eating and then the staff asked if we tried their dessert drink. We were each given a glass of what looked like barley drink. But the taste was even better than barley. The chilled drink was super refreshing and not too sweet. If I weren't super full, I would have downed at least 2 more glasses!!!

3rd plus point was the GOOD service provided. They were prompt and good-natured about their services even tho there were many tables of customers.

I'll definitely bring my other friends to be impressed.

Roalnd knows how to do it right Smile Feb 05, 2012

I have always wanted to try the Chilli crab that started all Chilli crabs but no chance till now!

My best friends returned home from overseas and demanded to fulfill their Chilli crabs need. So I suggested to try Roland Restaurant, I mean they DID claim that they are the originator!!

As the star dish of the night, I must say that their Chilli crab is indeed better than most I have eaten. This is because many restaurants cater to foreigners' taste buds and scale down their Chilli-ness to tomato sweet. Their sauce is thick with a hint of tomato sweet and yet still packed with even Chilli punch! Awesome!!!! The crabs themselves were fresh and meat was juicy and firm.

Another star of the night has to be the Salted Egg Crab with yam. It's really salted egg sauce that's fried into the crab and they tossed in some yam fritters to give the dish extra crispiness, crunch and flavor!!!

We had many other dishes and all beautifully done. As my best friend said at the end of the meal, "Roland knows how to do it right". The meal is not cheap but we had Sea Bass and drunken prawns and Broccoli with Scallops so it's rather worth the cost.

Definitely bringing my family to try.
