My Fav Italian Haunt Smile May 26, 2014

I have been a quiet fan of Al Forno's for about 20 years already (seriously, I'm that old). I remember my fondest dates here with my then-boyfriend-now-hubby and the food is STILL as good!
Focaccia Blanca - we wanted a starter and its nice. Think it as a pizza base without the sauce and ingredients. It's fragrant and goes well with soup. It's also a hit with the kids.
Calamari - the squid rings are nicely battered and fried but I would have liked them seasoned more. Though the rings are tender and crispy, its a little bland for me.
Pizza Alforno - our first time ordering pizza. I love how moist the pizza tasted with the feta cheese and spinach toppings!
Pizza Con Carne - essentially a meaty pizza with ham slices and salami slices. Hub likes it enough.
Spaghetti Cartoccio - my all-time fav baked spaghetti with seafood. They serve it in a tin foil that you cut open to reveal its goodness. The seafood is fresh and generous in amount and the spaghetti cooked till al dente even when baked.
Al Forno remains my favourite Italian restaurant of homage.

Heard of this place for a long while now and only had the chance to sneak off for weekday lunch recently. This is inside the Alumni House, which is next to the next to the Guild house.
Wild Mushroom Pasta - This is only to be appreciated by mushroom lovers as the taste is rather bland with a strong earthy taste of mushrooms.
Aglio Olio with Bacon & Mushroom - this pasta dish is very well received by my daughter. She polished it off all by herself. Easy to see why, the pasta had a nice salty Bacon taste and the mushrooms were generous
Top Side Beef Burger - hubby liked the beef and appreciated the burger being made from scratch.
Caesar Salad - I have mine with their grilled chicken (called Nori Chicken) and it was delicious!!! They even have theirs served with a beautifully poached egg!!! So when you break the egg, its runny yoke coats the salad to give it an added flavour! 2 thumbs up!
Their Latte is also ok, Im not a coffee expert but it tastes fine to me.
The 2 times I came by, it was past lunch busy hour so there was ample table space to choose from. This is a gem in NUS!

One of the Best!! Smile May 25, 2014

Fresh fish steamed and quickly sold off!
Long queues are clear indications of awesome food.
Many returning customers show loyalty in their cuisine!
Honestly I do not kid when I say everything they whip up is good. Not your restaurant-MSG-soaked sweetness mind you, this is comfort home-cooked food that maybe your mum is not able to compete with (sorry mum!).
I usually over-order when I'm here because my eyes really are bigger than my stomach. But for this stall, I always activate my special extendable stomach to fill with all the goodness!

Recommended Dish(es):  My tray of goodness!

This is the kind of restaurant I would not have tried on y own. But I was lucky to be brought here by a friend who knows the chef well and we enjoyed a Christmas dinner here.
Cold Pasta with grilled prawns - I was a little apprehensive about cold pasta but as a starter dish, it was refreshing and light. The prawns were grilled perfectly and super tasty.
Lobster Bisque - nice thick soup, piping hot, served out of a tea cup. Delicious!
Beef Steak - its a thick medallion that is nicely seared on the outside but pink and juicy on the inside.
Lava Cake - Good molten cake with soft inside, beautifully coupled with vanilla ice cream.
It's not a cheap dinner so only for special occasions then.

This hor fun is really very very good. I dunno what they put in the sauce but it really makes the hor fun super smooth and flavourful!!
They serve hor fun

here with chicken meat, chicken leg, pork ribs and/or mushrooms. Personally I love their hor fun with chicken meat, thinly sliced. Another thing I love here is their chilli sauce. I would throw in a large spoon of chilli to mix in with the sauce. I can't explain it but something about the spicy sauce coating the hor fun that makes me salivate!!!!
You just have to taste it to understand me!
