Have been meaning to check out the savory food of Mr Bean and today I finally got the chance!

Only when I walked in then I realized that it's a collaboration with the famous Tiong Bahru Yong Tau Hu (YTH). So I ordered
• Yong Tau Hu Laksa - they served theirs with thin Beehoon though I would have preferred the thick ones better. I must say the Beehoon amount were for thin ladies. I would have preferred a lot more! Haha... But that's where the disappointment ended. The laksa sauce was nice, flavourful and thick. The YTH pieces were about 6 pieces and they were ALL very very tasty!!! Really good!!

• Soy Porridge with Spicy Minced Chicken with Mushroom - I was greedy and wanted to check out their soy porridge too. So it turned out its still a savoury porridge but mashed up soy beans in the mixture. The spicy minced actually went really well with the porridge. Again the portion is not big so thin ladies are happy.

I would definitely return for the super yummy YTH!! Just that I would order 2 bowls to satisfy my bottomless pit then.

This is a value-for money food joint that serves fusion western makan with good taste.

We had
• Ayam Bakar - which to me is essentially fancy satay on a plate. It has the raw onions (slices), ketupat (cut into smaller pieces and satay sauce spooned over the meat. I found the sauce a tad too sweet and the chicken chunks not as tender as I would like it. Not bad but not a dish I would order again.

• Arrabiatta Prawn Pasta - I originally wanted marinara sauce with Chilli padi. The lady at the counter looked at me funny and asked, "So you want Arrabiatta sauce yah?" Heh, I trusted her and yes, it was spicy tomato sauce. I found the pasta a tad TOO al dente but the prawns were large and fresh and beautifully grilled! Very happy with the pasta overall.

• Truffle Fries - daughter insisted on having this and the serving is a large serving of hand cut fries with generous mix of truffle bits and slices to give the whole pot of fries adequate taste.

• T-Jar - their version of tiramisu. Theirs is not with sponge cake but a denser chocolate cake. The jar is a pretty substantial size and one jar was enough for my family of 3.

They have other very tempting mains that I don't have enough stomach space for which I wanna try the next time. 👍🏼👍🏼

Good Sauce OK Apr 21, 2016

Parking around here was pretty scarce. Even the carpark at 112 Katong was full!!!

Bergs has a Aircon portion and an outdoor part. Of course we opted for the indoor seats! Aircon was not strong so it helped that we dressed 'cooling'.

I had the Berg with Cheese and I must say the overall taste was really good. I love their mayo, I think it's made fresh from scratch as I had not tasted mayo like this before. Hubby and I noticed that the beef patties are actually rather thin and dry, if not for the awesome sauce, I can imagine the burger being lacking in taste.

Not sure if I would return as there are now many burger joints who would give Bergs a run for their money. 🤔

Great Bowl of Goodness Smile Apr 12, 2016

Stumbled to Shunfu Mart and decided to try Huat Heng Prawn Mee Soup.

I like soup but I like Chilli more! So I opted for Beehoon mee dry with extra Chilli! $4 portion because the longer I queue, the hungrier I get! Haha...

I must say that the $4 portion is a very generous bowl of goodness! The ingredients are really adequate for every mouthful of noodles to have some meat or some prawn with it! The prawns are split half but they must originally be rather big prawns because even half a prawn, I could taste the texture and freshness of the prawns!! 👍🏼

The Chilli paste is also very good! It coats the noodle beautifully and it has got enough kick in the spice department.

The soup base I have much praise for! It's thick and cloudy yet light enough to drink by the buckets! I shamelessly asked for a big bowl of soup and boss gave without any qualms! I like that! Some stall owners will pull long faces while doing so grudgingly.

Definitely be back for more!!!

Every Course A Hit Smile Mar 22, 2016

It's Restaurant Week and we had their set dinner for $38++.
We started with King Prawn on Crab Timbale. The prawn was nicely grilled till you get their BBQ taste on the outside. Chunky fresh prawn with head on...very nice. The Crab Timbale's name had me clueless but I googled it and realised that timbale means pan and that's exactly what it was. Delicious crab meat with mayo and cucumber bits served in a round shape. The crab was light but flavourful. Simply delightful!
I chose the Char-Grilled Angus Ribeye which was two slabs of beef that is well seared. very very tasty beef and the sides of potato, carrots, vegetables and mushrooms were also very good. They each held their own flavours yet complement each other so well! Super satisfied!
Dessert was Almond Cake with fruits on the side. It's a very generous almond cake serving and it was so fragrant! Very delicious cake and they paired it with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream which was so nice that I wished it were a much bigger scoop!
Serving size in general was also very adequate, not like french food where it's a big plate and small amounts of food.
I am SO coming back for their amazing food. Every dish was so so good! Amazing!!
