Veggie Friendly Jap Restaurant Smile Apr 11, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

Is it pretty hard to see a veggie friendly jap restaurant and so glad to have chanced upon one. This is one of the few sakae sushi outlets that caters to vegetarians

Rice Paper Maki "Veggie Sushi" : This was created by a genius. The sushi is infact made of rice paper wrap. Ingredients included carrots, cucumbers, mangoes among others. It looks like a real sushi, very pretty! tastes amazing- 9/10

Potato Koroke: This is another one of my favorites. Its somewhat like a potato cutlet. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It contains mixed vegetables. The dish was very well cooked and tastes excellent with soya sauce 9/10

There is another dish that contains rice and is wrapped in a beancurd skin. It's one of the nicest beancurd options available. Not sure what its called but its amazing! It does not need to be ordered separately as its usually on the "moving trays beside the tables" 9/10

Royal Chocolate: One of the nicest dessert options. Chocolate was rich and melts in the mouth 8/10

Cheese Mochi: I couldnt wait to try this dessert! It was pretty hard to cut through the mochi. The cheese in it was creamy and light. A nice way to end the meal 8/10

Fried Tofu: Nothing spectacular about this dish and I am guessing this is silken tofu as it crumbles very easily 7/10

Vegetable Tempura: This is really crispy and contains all kinds of vegetables. One of a kind 8/10

Japanese Green Tea: This is indeed not Japanese! tastes like seaweed; quite gross. I have bought authentic Japanese green tea and this cannot stand as comparison.

I decided to get the Sakae Card right after the meal!

Cheap in Town Smile Apr 11, 2012

This is a hidden gem found at Somerset; right opposite somerset mrt, beside Singtel and hidden at the basement. The food here is not only cheap but tastes fantastic too. Unlike most eateries, the food here truly does taste home cooked. They have a variety of dishes available everyday (weekdays only). From good old vegetable sides to delicious mock meats. Their standard main courses are fried bee hoon, white rice and brown rice. I picked up atleast 3-4 sides to go with my bee hoon and it only costs me $2.80! definitely a good buy!

P.s There is a popular crowd hence it is advisable to visit this stall after 3pm as they close early smile

One of my favorite desserts at Haagen-Dazs has got to be their Paradise! This dessert lets customers pick 6 different varieties of ice cream from the menu. The desserts also consists of 3 wafers that are tucked beneath the ice cream, in the middle as well at on the top. After which, almond flakes as well as chocolate strips, syrup are poured over it along with bite sized strawberries!

Caramel biscuit & cream 9/10 - Must Try! This was an excellent combination. The ice cream was smooth yet crunchy as the same time.

Belgian chocolate (2 scoops) 9/10 - The chocolate was rich and creamy! perfect for chocoholics out there!

Chocolate midnight cookies 8/10 - Pretty similar to cookies and cream. I found it a little too sweet though

Macadamia Nut 9/10 - A generous portion of macadamia nuts in the ice cream. I could never get sick of this one

Cappuccino Truffle 8/10 - This was a coffee flavored one. Acceptable but a little overwhelming
Paradise!

Paradise!

Quiet Lunch Smile Feb 08, 2012

Categories : Indian | Kids-Friendly

As much as I like the buzzling city. It's nice to have a quiet meal from time to time. I love going to restaurants like this on weekday afternoons as it almost feels like you have the whole place to yourself.. well.. almost until another customer walks in! smile

I do fine dining here a little pricy and the most value for money are definitely the buffet dinners this restaurant offers. Unfortunately, they do not cater for lunch buffets hence we had to go ala cart. My friend and I received a plate of appetizers (on the house) which is commonly known as papadum/indian cracker. It was rolled up and served with spicy mint sauce. The cracker was crispy yet not oily. The mint sauce completed the crackers really well.

I ordered Rice Pulou which was basically basmati rice with peas as well as spices. The serving was huge and is recommended for 2 people (despite the idea that I'm a pretty big eater!). The rice was extremely fragrant and was definitely cooked on the spot. 8/10

We also ordered a side called Aloo Gobi which is pretty famous in north Indian restaurants. It contains cauliflowers and potatoes mostly which are marinated in spicy gravy. 8/10

We shared a basket of naan's which contained cheese naan's, butter naan's and savory naan's. The naan's were a little oily but they were so soft and fluffy! We couldn't care less about the calories. We had this dish with a serving of dahl curry. It was a simple curry and the spicyness was very mild! suitable for anyone who cant take spicy food! 9/10

Last but not least, my friend suggested a dessert which contained indian cottage cheese. i dont recall the name of the dessert but it was exquisite. There was cubes of Indian cheese in a sweet orange syrup. It was the perfect way to end the meal!

Peanut Butter Cups Ice Cream Smile Feb 07, 2012

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Ice Cream and Gelato

As I was on my way home from a friend's place, I decided to drop by at Dempsey Rd and grab myself a pint of ice cream. Every time I land in their store, I find myself extremely confused as I love all their flavors and everything always looks so good! I love peanut butter cups in general but I have never expected it to go so well with ice cream

I was surprised to find that they actually had Peanut Butter Cups Ice Cream! which was basically peanut butter ice cream (creamy) with chunks of peanut butter cups! The ice cream tasted so good. I like the contrast in taste of the peanut butter along with chunks of peanut butter cups - which were huge! The ice cream was really creamy and the peanut butter cups were delicious. I probably finished half the pint!

It's a great combination and definitely something new!
