I loved Gloria Jeans ever since I was a teenager and today, I'm afraid I still do; despite the sour experience I had during my last visit (previous Gloria jeans entry). I was proved wrong this time round during my Signature Iced Chocolate experience. I love how the prices for the drinks are so much cheaper than its coffee counterparts. The biggest (Venti) beverage at starbucks would have easily costed me $8 at starbucks. However, I paid around $2+ lesser here!

I havn't had iced chocolate in over a decade hence I decided to go coffee free and boy, was I pleased. The drinks were made on the spot and the wait was within 5-7mins after payment. The iced chocolate tasted rich with no artificial sweetening or sugar of any kind. Just the way I liked it. There was a generous portion of whipped cream that the staff will swirl on top upon request. I loved it! and it tastes so much better then a couple of diluted iced chocolate places I knew of! 9/10

My boyfriend had a flavoured iced tea which I stole a sip off; I found it pretty refreshing as well smile 8/10 The portions of both large beverages was more than sufficient during an hour at the laid back café. We also tried an aussie favourite for dessert - Strawberry Lemington which was recommended by my significant other. It was a light fluffy pastry which had grated coconut on top! It looked really pretty and tasted just as good! It was not too sweet either hence definitely diet friendly! 9/10

The staff at the outlet were very friendly and cheerful which added to the experience. There's nothing like efficient staff to go with an excellent beverage to make one's day! smile This outlet was located within the mall in an open space. There were no barriers of any kind and was perfect for casual conversations or coffee dates seeing that 112 Katong can never get too crowded! Perfect to people watch or catch up on reading a book since it was not too noisy either (as long as you don't mind the sound of blenders running once in a while!) =D This has got to be my new favourite coffee spot!

P.s The cakes are pretty pricy though but would be sure to try one for old time's sake smile

Masala filled! Smile Feb 04, 2013

Potato masala has always been one of my favourites. This can be found inside the typical indian tea time/breakfast thosai or along side poori; another indian delight. Basically potato masala compromises of potatoes, peas, carrots, onions and of course masala! it is also similar to the usual curry puff potato filling but the indian version is slightly more spiced up.

Different types of thosai is also available. I went for my favourite kind this time round - Masala Thosai. I love how its so crispy on the outside with a generous portion of potato masala placed right in the middle! It is also served alongside 3 different curries - Sambar (which is like a dahl curry that is common eaten with prata), coconut chutney and chili chutney. No doubt coconut chutney compromises of grated coconut and spices while the chili version is obviously spicier. They complimented the meal very well!

Bananas for chocolate Cry Feb 04, 2013

Categories : American | Café | Desserts and Cakes

I love the warm ambience of this place. No doubt, space constraint here can be quite stiff with the tables quite close to one another leaving not much room to stretch, especially since this outlet is packed most of the time. I found the most enticing dessert fit for sharing to be one of my favourites - Eggrolls.

This time round however, I found myself to be disappointed. Instead of the 3 tier pots of chocolate for dipping, there were only two - Caramel and milk chocolate. The quality of the eggrolls had also gone down. There were 5-6 pieces of egg rolls sprinkled with icing sugar. The outer layers was not as crispy as I hoped they would be and the sliced bananas in these rolls appeared to be way too hard which gave off a very raw taste! I don't see myself taking the risk to order this dish again especially for the price paid.

Customer service on the other hand appeared to be decent with constant water re-fills without much prompting smile

Finally 24! Cry Feb 04, 2013

Tiramisu

Tiramisu

For my 24th Birthday, my sister was sweet enough to get me a birthday cake from Mad Jack. I have never tried the cakes there or the food and this was a first for me. As the manager recommended her the Tiramisu, she decided to get it. The cake was pretty, filled with fluffy layers of cream and lady fingers and topped off with expresso. The cake did look very pretty presentation wise and I was thankful for all the effort.

However, It was really hard to cut through the cake without messing it up completely. I am a huge fann of tiramisu and have had some great tiramisu desserts before but this cake was only average. It tasted too plain and on the bitter side (no doubt it has expresso in it) but sweetness was insanely lacking. The cake also did not taste as flavourful as I hope for. To my astonishment it was also very pricy! Doubt I'll be coming here for tea ):

Western delights OK Feb 04, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Seafood | Kids-Friendly

After much window shopping, My boyfriend and I decided on Fish & Co for dinner. Unlike the restaurants name which implies it caters solely to Fish, one would be amazed to find that serve delicious looking pizza's as well! I loved the dim lighted restaurant which gave a romantic feel to it (especially on a date); whereby lighting was placed just above each table and practically shined on the food, that made food look more appetizing than usual smile There was plenty of seating and lots of friendly staff (not all of them could speak English unfortunately which slowed down service a little to non-Chinese customers)
French Fries

French Fries

Tables were already set when we entered the restaurant and staff took away extra plates/cutlery when needed to ensure there was more space. We were also allowed to choose our own seats which made the experience more comfortable. I had decided to get a plate of fries for sharing. Never did I expect such a huge serving through! They tasted pretty much the same as other fast food joints and was served with mayo. Chili sauce will also be given upon request. I still found it to be a little over priced as it costs half the price of my main course. Will give this a pass the next time round! 6/10
Margarita Pizza

Margarita Pizza

The winner of this meal would definitely be the margarita pizza! It was baked to perfection with cheese, mushrooms, juicy tomatoes and onions. However, I did request for the pizza to be without onions but unfortunately I found them in my meal. I decided not to be fussy though, since the pizza did take a good 15-20mins to arrive despite the restaurant being 70% empty! However, I will let that slide seeing that the pizza tasted really good! I must say, I was impressed as I never expected Fish & Co to out-do pizza restaurants but they sure did! 9.5/10. I'd rate this 10/10 If my pizza came without onions as requested and if waiting time was not that long. It would be a plus point if a thicker layer of cheese was added. Staff at the outlet were not very attentive either seeing that since some of them could not speak English, they did not come forward when we needed assistance and got one of their other colleagues to entertain us which prolonged waiting time.

We also had to raise our hands up for quite awhile before being noticed (to ask for sauces, water, the bill) and no glasses of water were served to us (even when the rest of the tables had water at their tables). We only got ours after being asked twice. Overall, the waiting time was what made the experience slightly dull and the lack of good service did not make me feel valued as a paying customer. Food wise, beyond acceptable.
