Second time here but still always find the price quite a rip off. heh. Anyway, i ordered the appetiser of mac and cheese, and its really splendid! was already thinking about it on my way there. Lol. It is basically a little bit like the fried mozarella dish which we can find somewhere else but this one is a bit lighter and has mushrooms in it as well. A plus is that it is not oily at all.

Bf had the Bad Ass BBQ burger which was disappointingly small. Though tasty, it was almost about a fist size! Beef patty was thick, and came with thick cut fries. Well, I would say come here for the ambience, quite a perfect place to bring a date, but for the food, it is average and do not expect too much.

So-so Ramen  OK Jun 30, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

Second time here with my bf and the last time he had a Salmon Ramen. This time round, he ordered a Ramen with Pork but when it came, we were surprised that the pork was served separately and was a kind of stir-fried. I always found the ramen here very tasteless because the broth is very very light, almost watery.

I guess most come here for their fresh seafood, not ramen. They do not have a menu with pictures so you really got to imagine before the dishes are served. I also had the Teriyaki Chicken, which was grilled well and very tasty as a side dish.

Favorite salad bar for the moment Smile Jun 30, 2013

There are salad bars aplenty in the cbd area but i realise most of them are for takeaways. Was looking for a healthy lunch with my friend and i passed by Tossz a couple of times before and remembered looking at the huge portions of salad people are eating. I was very pleasantly surprised when i ate here for their ingredients are fresh, portions are huge and everything was just nice.

I had the premium where u choose a bed of veg, 6 normal types, 2 add ons and a premium. These cost $11. add ons are ingredients such at sundried tomatoes, cheese and nuts and premiums are meat. I had walnuts and sundried tomatos for add ons and cajun chicken. Was very very yummy. And the Jap sesame dressing is very good! They also serve other stuff like sandwiches and soup. This will defnitely be my to-go place if i need a huge salad!

I must say Lao Beijing never fails to disappoint me in terms of food quality-- humble chinese food that is cooked well. Even for their buffet, quality remains. =) We ordered so many dishes because it was ala-carte buffet and I was unable to capture the pictures of all dishes, but I will highlight to you what's good in the menu. And oh btw, its only $18.80 ++

I was very happy to find one of my favourite Chinese appetizer on the menu - beancurd skin! However, the one here wasn't tasty and was too oily. They had other appetizers such as pickled cucumbers, braised peanuts and garlic pork. The noodles came in small portions so its a good size to keep your stomach for the huge variety of food. I really liked the spinach tofu because the tofu was very soft and the fried part outside was not dry at all. The other highly recommended dish will be the prawn paste chicken. It was very crispy and didn't felt oily, and you could really taste the aroma of the prawn paste, not like some other places which taste more like fried wings. A must-order if you go I say! And don't miss the soupy Xiao Long Bao too! Other lovely dishes was the fried fish fillet and braised eggplant.

One of the signature dishes of Lao Bei Jing is their DIY Popiah. They actually sell them as a set and for buffet, they limit it to one set per 4 person. The popiah skin was very soft (most tore when we tried to separate them) and came with many ingredients for you to customise your own. For instance, if you don't eat certain ingredients like beansprouts of garlic then you will love the flexibility to make your own. The turnips was also well braised and dry, with large pieces of beancurd in them.

Lastly, the desserts were only limited to 3 choices - mango sago, sesame paste and ice cream puff. I would say skip the last.

Overall a very value-for-money place with decent food and good service. Thumbs up!

Jump on the DIY salad wagon OK Jun 22, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Salads/ Acai Bowl

With many people being more health conscious these days, I wouldn't be surprised when SunMoon jumped on the DIY salad wagon. The company has been known for selling fruits and having their shops in the CBD was probably a very useful tactic at targeting the well-heeled PMETs.

There are quite number of places in Tanjong Pagar selling salads and you can always see the long queue of people during lunch time. I have tried the famous salad corner which is located in hawker centres and came across SunMoon. For a start, price is affordable at $5.90 without premium. Selection of ingredients is normal, and I had mushrooms, carrots, chickpeas, gherkins and boiled eggs. All these on a bed of lettuce which is a good size. The only thing I didn't like was probably of my own doing - choosing the sesame dressing. I usually choose these because they are not creamy but still give a very flavourful taste to boring leaves. However, the one from SunMoon could actually disappoint me! I think they try to do their own dressing, which looks more like a lot of sesame seed in oil... which means u don't taste the roasted flavour we get from our usual sesame oil.

Having said that, i would probably still try other dressings.. maybe the safer ones like balsamic.
