Bak Kut Teh at Zi Char Stall Smile Nov 29, 2010

Categories : Coffeeshop | Seafood

I'm surprised to find this gem at a zichar stall setup.
Infact, I'm actually a loyal fan of this zichar stall since I am frequent to this kopitiam for lunch.

The bak kut teh was not listed on their formal menu, but instead they have a list of informal menu which only available upon asking.

Priced at only $4.00 per serving, it comes with a really generous serving of baby ribs with some youtiao. It's more of the kind of peppery base bak ku teh with strong parsley fragrance.
The baby ribs were very tender, and soup are just right for my taste bud.
Strong pepper teasing feeling together with the fragrant steamed rice, it's worthy to give their bak kut teh a try when you are here.

Good food, good time. Smile Nov 29, 2010

Heavily decorated using bamboo, it gives me a very traditional japanese feeling upon entering the restaurant.
They have an incredible long queue but since I was craving for some Japanese food, I reluctantly queue outside for a good 15minutes.

Ordered Fried Garlic rice and Salmon Sashimi rice.

Verdict: Absolutely worth the queuing!

Garlic rice was well executed and every bites I feel as thou I was indulging in some garlic-land. Excellent!
The salmon here was fresh and no fishy smell at all. I could taste the sweetness of the fresh fish and a tint of saltiness from the fish roes.

Price is reasonable and the quality make the price worth it.

Square Breads  Smile Nov 29, 2010
Categories : Japanese | Bakery

It looks like just your typical Japanese Bread shop when you walk past this at Tampines 1. However, I see queues of people waiting for something while the kitchen gets busy. Within minutes, the shop girl comes out with a tray with strange looking bread, squarish in fact.... and puts it down, and within minutes, it's gone.

I stood then feeling astonished, and waited for the queue to clear. The next batch came pretty quickly, and I took one immediately. The bread is soft, squarish, like a cube! The shape is really cute, and strange... as I have never seen a bread that looks this way. Upon eating it, the bread tasted quite creamy, and there wasn't any fillings in it. it cost around $1.50.

I must say that this bread truly left a memory in me, as the shape was special and unique!

Thai food rocks! Smile Nov 19, 2010

A good bowl of thai rice... yum!! lol

I really love Thai express's food, and it's really worth every penny going there to eat. Their food is affordable, delicious, and the service is impeccable for the money you are paying!

I always order my soft shell crab rice set, as the sauce that they use for the soft shell crab is really delicious! The soft shell crab is also very crispy, and together with the mix of rice, it's pure heaven! tongue It only cost $10.90 on the menu, and you get 3 pieces of soft shell crabs.

On top of that, you have got to try their famous 'chendol'. There are fragrant jackfruit slices, colourful strains of chendol and red rubies in the coconut milk with a generous drizzle of the traditional Thai palm sugar. It's really delicious, though it can be quite heaty.

Try it today! smile

Quick Thai Fix! Smile Nov 16, 2010
Categories : Thai

Initially plan to have some high tea at Lao Beijing prior to our movie, but the queues was long enough to turn us off.
Decided to try Thai express instead since It has been ages we had thai food.

There are two dishes which I never fail to order.

1) Curry Soft Shell Crab w/Rice
2) Tom yam soup

Service was prompt and our tom yam soup was serve within 5-7minutes.
The standard were consistent - Clean clear soup base which look harmless but the tom-yam taste will continuously tickle your palate after your first sip.
Seafood ingredient in the soup was fresh. Prawns was crunchy and Squid was not too rubbery. The use of lemongrass was strong enough for my liking.

Next, the Curry soft shell crab rice!
That is my favorite dish from Thai express!
The gravy is thick and flavory with hitches of onions & parsley.
Together with the clean crispy soft shell crab - Its a perfect match!

Overall, its a pleasant experience to dine at Thai express.
Service was excellent. Waitress were attentive and automatically refill our plain water whenever it was half emptied.

Thumbs up.
