EXCELLENT value for money!  Smile Oct 01, 2012

This is the first time I've eaten at Nihon Mura. And I've to say this place really provides value for money if you're on a budget. I ate the lunch special so it may have been more affordable. With the lunch special you can order 1 appetiser, 1 main and 1 desert or 1 side and it comes with a free drink for S$9.99++.

I choose the pork katsu curry, chawanmushi and fried tempura vegetables in teriyaki sauce.

The pork katsu curry came in a surprisingly large portion and was very yummy. The other 2 items that I ate were average. But I would still definitely recommend this lunch special since it's more than worth the amount paid.

Not that great! Cry Sep 30, 2012

If you ever walk past Raffles City, there's always a long queue for this ramen restaurant. And when I say long I don't mean 5 people long, I mean 10-15 people long! Hence, I've been waiting to try this for a really really long time. When star vista opened and I walked over to have a look I was pleasantly surprise to see Menya Musashi and that there wasn't a queue! Hallelujah!

Unfortunately it all went downhill from there, I ordered the White Cha Su Ramen and frankly it just wasn't that great. The noodles weren't springy at all. The stock/soup wasn't even remotely tasty, I felt like I was eating instant noodles with an AVERAGE packet of flavoring powder. The Cha Su was the only saving grace for this bowl of ramen, it had just the right amount of fat and melted in my mouth.

I definitely won't be going back to this place anytime soon or in the foreseeable future.

After coming back from Paris, I've been craving their duck. I finally headed down with some friends to Saveur after hearing favorable reviews about it from others. Man, I was not disappointed. The confit of duck was exactly like the one I had in France. My tastebuds were singing after the first bite. The mash potato (?) under the duck was also another winner, it was so yummy my friends and I practically scrape every inch of it of the plate. At a price of $9.90, it was also extremely affordable.

Each of us also ordered a bowl of angel air pasta with sherry minced pork and sakura ebi ($3.90). This was another delicious dish. I've never tasted something like this, it was extremely good. The sakura ebi added a crunchy mouthfeel.

Will definitely be going back!

Value for Money! Smile Sep 30, 2012

I had a craving for Japanese food but instead of going to a regular Japanese restaurant, my boyfriend and I decided to try Chiso Zanmai. We found out about it through a flyer. To be honest I did not have high expectations of it, since the lunch buffet was only $14.90++. However, we were both pleasantly surprised when we saw that the restaurant had a lovely view of the river.

The buffet spread was pretty good too. There was a tempura section - pumpkin, prawn, chicken, sweet potato.
-Japanese curry
-Tori karaage
-Chawanmushi
-Udon or cold soba
-Tonkatsu ramen or Soyu ramen
-Japanese pancake with radish
-Takoyaki
-Green tea egg tarts

Service was also prompt and fast. Even though the restaurant was nearly 70% full, the waiters manage to clear the plates off the table efficiently and food was also replenished when it ran out. I would definitely go back again!

I usually patronise the Cedele at Takashimaya but opted for a change and when to the one at Wheelock with my boyfriend. While the food was still as delicious, the service was absolutely ATROCIOUS.

Firstly, the waiter forgot to bring our menus after seating us. When we finally got someone to serve us, the waiter forgot to bring our drinks and we had to remind him. Unfortunately, even after being reminded he manage to deliver the drinks to the wrong table. He seem more interested in chatting with the cashier and other waiters. Thankfully the meal was pleasant. Also, did I mention they have all-day-breakfast which is something I love!

Sadly, the waiter took his own sweet time to get our bill and once again had to be reminded. I find it very tiresome when I’ve to remind waiters/waitresses for something. After all I’m paying service charge and I expect some sort of service at the very least. So I definitely will not be going to the Cedele@Wheelock again.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never had this problem at Takashimaya’s Cedele. I guess different outlets have different training policies (?).
