Tea break Smile Jun 15, 2013
Categories : American | Coffee

After lunch hours and tea break time are some of the busiest periods at this starbucks outlet as students and office workers descend to the outlet for their dose of caffeine. Some times the queues snake quite a bit, but depending on the number of baristas working that day, orders are usually served out quickly.

I was looking over the cakes section when I spotted this delicious looking Caffee Verona Chiffon Cake ($5) and decided to give it a try together with a nice cup of coffee. I was expected a rather dry cake, but to my surprise, the chiffon cake was really moist, with nice coffee swirls in it. It is also topped with a layer of nice coffee cream which adds flavour to the otherwise plain chiffon cake centre.

Blackball Smile Jun 15, 2013

Decided to head to BlackBall for some nice Taiwanese desserts, after craving for some nice taiwanese taro ball dessert for the week! The shop was rather small and there were limited seats inside, so we had to order a takeaway bowl. We ordered their BlackBall Signature, which came with a cornucopia of ingredients: ice shavings, grass jelly, sweet potato balls, yam balls, red bean and pearls. The portion was rather generous and could probably feed two person nicely. This cold dessert is definitely very refreshing in our hot weather and it is a joy chewing on the various toppings and savouring the flavours. We did not add the milk provided as my friend was concerned it would get too sweet.

Power Nasi Lemak Smile Jun 15, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre

Heard a lot of positive reviews about their good and affordable nasi lemak, so I decided to settle lunch here. There was a queue when I arrived during lunch time- the queue almost stretched outside of the hawker centre but thankfully the queue moved really fast. It didn't take long before it was my turn. I ordered fried chicken wing, long beans and fried egg. The rice was really nice, fluffy and definitely had a strong aromatic coconut milk taste, which I liked. It went really well with the chili paste- you taste the sweet flavour of the chili before the spiciness takes over. I also really liked how well marinated and flavourful the chicken is. The outer part is fried to a nice crispy golden brown, while the insides are juicy and tender!

Steamed chicken set Smile Jun 15, 2013

I decided to be healthy and avoided ordrering the fried ayam penyet. Instead, I ordered the steamed chicken rice set, which comes with a deliciously tender chicken leg, salad and rice drenched in rich fragrant curry gravy. The steamed chicken came with a nice sweet black sauce which enhanced the flavour of the chicken drumstick. The curry gravy was thick and aromatic, definitely went really well with the chicken! The salad provided was also fresh- the lettuce where fresh and crunchy.

Koi Smile Jun 15, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

I dropped by Koi to try out their latest fruit tea macchiato drinks. There is a choice of flavours: peach, passionfruit and mango. I was initially worried about how artificially sweet the fruit tea may turn out so I decided to avoid the peach macchiato and went ahead to order the passionfruit macchiato ($3.20, medium cup) with no sugar. I personally like passionfruit flavour, but some people not be able to accept the slightly sour taste of passionfruit- advisable to up the sugar level to suit your preference.

I was actually quite delighted by this refreshing drink. The passionfruit tea had a nice balance of passionfruit and fragrant tea taste, topped with their tasty and creamy milk top floating on top. The drink comes with a small knife opener for you to poke a hole on the plastic covering for you to sip the macchiato, but I personally prefer to drink it with a straw. To ensure I slurp up the milk and tea parts, I move my straw up and down the cup- so I do not end up just drinking the tea and neglecting the milk top!
