Genki Sushi is back! Smile Oct 09, 2011   (Related Review)

Yes it's back in Singapore @Orchard Central! I went there on a Saturday evening, and there was quite a queue of customers waiting for tables. Luckily we said we didn't mind counter seats & were brought in quite fast. It's actually quite exciting & cool to see by the counter & get your food orders via the "Shinkansen".Customers order their food through the Ipad provided (did you spot the Ipad in the second pic?). Cool ya? ;) The Shinkansen can take up to 4 plates of food per trip, & it really arrived like a real train with the train arrival sounds! We think kids will definitely love this! Hehe since even we adults oso find it so fun tongue

The technology aside, Genki sushi standard is still there, fresh & tasty. bowl We will be back for more. smile

Beef Noodles Worth Queuing for Smile Dec 30, 2010

Categories : Hawker Centre

Coincidentally both my lunch partner and I had the idea of eating the beef noodles from this stall today. Seeing that there was only a short queue formed in front of the stall, I thought it should be quite fast that we can get our lunch, but I was wrong!

This stall is so popular many customers buy many bowls or takeaway many packs. So in the end I had to queue at least 10 minutes before it was my turn. But the wait was worth it. smile I had the beef noodles (dry) which costs $3.50. I like the way they prepared the gravy for the noodles, and the beef slices were very thin and tender that I could easily swallow. chopstick Even the soup they gave with the dry noodles was very good, tasty yet didn't give a salty aftertaste. In addition, they also add peanuts and pickled vegetables to the noodles which add the crunch when u bite into them.

To sum it up, quoting my lunch partner: "Many other beef noodles just fail after you have tried the beef noodles at this stall!" smile

Great Japanese Lunch Smile Dec 26, 2010
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

It's end of the year and almost everyone at work seems to be in a festive mood, so 3 of us decided to have an early Christmas lunch at Ichiban Boshi. smile

My colleagues had the Unagi Tofu Wazen set and Sukiyaki Wazen set. Both sets looked like good feasts to me but I didn't try any of it hehe. My Menchi Katsu & Croquette Curry set ($12.90++) was enough to keep me occupied. tongue

My set came with a bowl of tuna salad, a plate of rice with pork katsu and croquette slices and plenty of curry in a saucer, as well as a bowl of miso soup. The pork katsu and croquette were fried crispily, but I didn't feel that they were too oily when I sunk my teeth into them. The curry was just of the right thickness and taste. smile Only minus point was the tuna salad had greens that I didn't appreciate as it had a slight bitter taste, don't know what to call those greens though. I had to eat the greens together with the small bits of tuna to mask the smell.

If you enjoy Japanese curry, you can try this the next time you go to Ichiban Boshi. I think it's quite a reasonable set with a not-so-heavy price tag. smile

Healthy Vegan Meal Smile Dec 26, 2010
Categories : Singaporean | Stall / Kiosk | Kids-Friendly

Mum decided not to cook on a Sunday night so that she could have a more relaxed weekend, and we were getting tired of food from the coffeeshops nearby. Hence we decided to go to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital food court for dinner instead. Although it was dinner time, the food court was not crowded at all. Probably because few people would go to a food court in a hospital for dinner, unless they are visiting patients or something. The food court is also tucked right in a corner of the hospital, in fact just next to the traffic junction facing Safra Yishun.

After walking 1 round to see what food stalls are worthy to buy our food from, I decided on the Vegan stall called "Loving Hut". I ordered the organic rice set - Black Pepper Fillet rice set ($4.80) which comes with a good spread of fresh green salad, a bowl of soup, and the plate of black pepper "fillet" stir-fried with vegetables.

The salad was very tasty, think sesame oil was added to make the salad more fragrant, even the vegetables used felt crunchy. chopstick 1 look at the rice and we thought the stall assistant bluffed me as it didn't look like organic brown rice at all, but after 1 bite, I realised it was indeed brown rice, though somehow the colour didn't say so. tongue The black pepper mocked fillet was well-done, really could pass off as the real thing, if you aren't that observant. The black pepper sauce used was good too. smile Lastly, the soup was nice but didn't make me feel thirsty after finishing the whole bowl. Good! smile

There are 5 outlets for this Loving Hut, which is good as it allows me to enjoy a value for money healthy meal when I want to. What's more their menu is quite a variety, so you can choose to have different types of rice or noodles every time you visit them.
