Come for desserts instead...... OK Oct 01, 2011

I had dinner with 2 friends at this outlet one Saturday, as this was one of the very few restaurants that didn't have long queues for food at Paragon. It is not somewhere that I would strongly recommend as I don't feel it's value for money.

This Millionaire Salad was quite pricey, with just small bits of duck & chicken meat, with egg, avocado, and a mix of vegetables. I still prefer my normal Caesar Salad tongue

My main course was Big O's specialty dish - Barbecued Baby Back Ribs, but frankly I didn't really enjoy it. The "pork smell" was too much, even for someone like me who doesn't mind eating pork! I prefer Tony Roma's ribs haha. Luckily it was a very big portion, at least can justify for the price tongue

My friend ate the Seafood Marinara & she said it was pretty good. Well it definitely looked appealing, just that I couldn't try due to my allergy...

Surprisingly a chicken main course - Chicken Schnitzel, could be the most expensive amongst all the dishes we ordered! Another friend ate this & said it was average, as the sauce they used was a bit funny. Well... how come we had no luck in ordering nice dishes?

When we were selecting our dessert from the menu, the Love Bug Mudpie tempted us a lot as it read: "an irresistible combination of macadamia nut and mocha almond fudge ice cream. between them are balley's Irish cream soaked biscuits, all this is done on a bed of oreo cookie crust, served with hershey's chocolate sauce". Sounds yummy right? Luckily it was really a shiok dessert, though the Bailey's Irish cream aroma was very faint. But it was a good choice, finally smile
Love Bug Mudpie $10.95++

To conclude, guess this is more of a desserts place than anything else. So next time I shan't waste my $ on its main courses anymore. ;)

Tip Top curry puffs have been around since 1979, and I remember I looked forward to sinking my teeth into the yummy curry puff whenever my parents bought some back home when we visited AMK Central during my growing up days.

To date, its fragrant chicken curry is still what entices me to buy some home if I happen to be at AMK Central. I also like that there is a slice of hard-boiled egg in the puff, & I don't remember other curry puff chains doing that. When I bite into the crust, I find that it also does not give me a too-greasy feel like some other curry puffs in the market.

I had to queue for about 20 minutes on National Day at the stall as it was lined with fans of the famous puff & many were ordering at least 5 (like myself). Nonetheless I feel it's worth the wait when I sunk my teeth into the freshly made curry puff that was piping hot!

Not so nice Wendy's Cry Sep 29, 2011

I had never tried the fast food at Wendy's before but since there was much buzz when it first opened in Singapore, upon knowing that it is now available at Yishun 10, I decided to try out its small combo meal.
My small combo meal - 1/4 lb. single combo

My small combo meal - 1/4 lb. single combo

I ordered takeaway so that I could eat in the comfort of my own house, in front of the TV.tongue On the way home I ate a few fries while it's still piping hot. Gosh, it was very salty! When I ate it at home about half an hour later, it had turned soggy, but the saltiness seemed to have disappeared? haha...

As for the 1/4 lb. single burger, I like the bun which has a fragrant sesame taste, not like the usual burgers in other fast food joints that is just a "normal bun". However the beef patty was nothing to rave about. I mean it's not bad, pretty tender & well done. But for the price one pays, & all the hype with this fast food joint, I expect more from this famous burger. I think probably Burger King beef patties can do an equally good, if not better, job than this.

Conclusion about Wendy's 1/4 lb. single combo is, it's just a normal burger meal. Probably not so great for the price one pays, in view of intense competition from other fast food joints. 1 can either go to Burger King to get the beef burger fix & pay similar price, or fork out a bit more for Carl's Junior.

So, unless I happen to be in the Wendy's vicinity, I wun go all out to find one to satisfy my craving.

My friend strongly recommended this restaurant at Hyatt Hotel's basement, saying that it has great Italian food at reasonable prices (especially so as she has the Hyatt membership).

It is an Italian restaurant with a very traditional European setting with red checkered tablecloth & wooden furniture. Even the menu was quite special, just a piece of "newspaper" listing the dishes they serve. From Mon - Thu only, set dinner is priced at $35++, which includes free flow of bread, salad bar (1 time serving only), main course & a dessert of the day. We ordered 1 set of this & a salad bar buffet ($22++).

The salad bar had quite a variety available (hence my friend decided to only take the salad bar buffet as it meant she could eat as much as she liked & not jus limited to 1 serving). For my set, I had to "pile" up as much salad/ fruits etc that I like on 1 plate since I could only help myself with the salad bar once.tongue The lettuce, cherry tomatoes, fruits etc were all very fresh & I enjoyed this salad plate a lot. smile

Bread was free flow, & my friend was "in charge" of bringing them to our table as she simply loves bread haha. There were 2 types of bread she took, & I thought the one on the leftmost side of the pic tasted better. The other type on the right side was walnut bread. We helped ourselves to 2 plates of bread while I waited for my main course... *burp*

Soon my main course came, I cannot remember the exact name but it's some risotto styled pasta stuffed with spinach. Perhaps due to the cheesy nature, it was quite salty & after abt eating a third of the portion, I was already quite full.tongue I like the part where the spinach was more than the cheese. It's actually like lasagna, but vegetarian version. tongue Nice but one would probably feel too stuffed after a while, especially so since I had already eaten many slices of bread & the salad plate...

Actually dessert of the day was supposed to be their famous Tiramisu, but I requested to change it to ice cream as I was really bloating! I picked Pistachio ice cream & it came with a piece of crunchy biscuit (or was it nuts?) and a half strawberry. The scoop of ice cream was refreshing, I'm glad I chose this instead of trying to stuff myself with the Tiramisu hee. Maybe next time if I go to Pete's Place again then I will try Tiramisu with a half empty stomach. tongue

It was a good filling meal, but I think if not for the 50% discount because of my friend's membership, it would not be as worthwhile a dinner. smile

Penang Food! Smile Sep 24, 2011

Categories : Malaysian | Halal

Having been to Penang & tried all its good hawker food last October, I just wanted to satisfy my craving again at this restaurant which is named after a famous street in Penang.

We ordered Penang Fried Kway Teow, Penang Rojak and Penang Lor Bak, as well as 2 glasses of Iced Bandung Chin Chow. smile

The Penang Fried Kway Teow was good! It brought back the fond memories of the delicious wok-fried fried kway teow I had eaten in Penang. Yummy ^^

As for the Penang Lor Bak, it actually tasted like our local ngor hiang. Quite yummy too, and the fried beancurd as the accompaniment was not bad too.

I didn't really enjoy eating the Penang Rojak though. It was more sour than spicy sweet and there was very little fried fritters or tau pok, mostly the cucumbers & turnip only. Not worth our $......

The Iced Bandung Chin Chow was a very refreshing drink that I felt went down well with all the oily & sinful food like fried kway teow and rojak hehe. However I don't remember it as a Penang specialty. ;)

Overall, I think the standard of this restaurant is pretty alright, at least most of the dishes tasted similar to the authentic ones found in Penang. smile
