It serves food which hits close to home and at the same time, strives to bring out the authentic Japanese flavor. "Better than mom's home cooked food." is also the key motto of IPPIN Cafe Bar.

At IPPIN Cafe Bar, all prices are in NETT! What's more, they also provide FREE Wifi (!!!)

All the ingredients used in their dishes are also available for sale at the cafe which is also a Japanese Concept Store!

We had:

Miso Udon Noodle with Oyster Set - $15 NETT

This dish is perfected using red miso from the natural production method by placing soybeans in a wooden barrel for two summers and two winters. It comes with kobachi (small dish) and a dessert.

The udon was springy, and I loved the thick red miso broth! The oysters were really fresh, as they are known to be sourced from the Hiroshima Prefecture which happens to be the most famous area of oysters in Japan!

Grilled Oyster and Veggies in Ponzu Butter Sauce Set - $20 NETT

The oysters were grilled in ponzu (yuzu vinegar) butter sauce which was a little citrus-like, but definitely a refreshing choice! Another dish from the set that caught my attention was the Nikujaga pork. It was stewed perfectly with potatoes and the pork was so tender! This set is also served with salad and miso soup.

Deep Fried Oyster Set - $24 NETT

Definitely a set I would order again!

The Oysters were unbelievably fresh, and you could taste its sweetness with every bite. It was lightly battered and served with light wasabi mayo which only got me wanting more. I loved this so much that I requested for a second helping! This set is also served with their Nikujaga Pork and Potato Stew, Salad, Hatcho Miso Soup and a Dessert.

Oyakudon Set - $15 NETT

When it comes to Japanese food, Oyaku Don (Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl) is no stranger to anyone. The chicken at IPPIN Cafe Bar is boiled with chicken stock that gives it an extra oomph. The huge slab of chicken on egg was drizzled with their signature sauce and was also served with salad and miso soup.

Yakisoba Set - $12 NETT

If you're craving for something simple and light, then this Yakisoba Set would be a fit for your taste buds! Their Yakisoba comes from Chiba Prefecture and so, is quality assured. The soba was tossed with their Japanese savory sauce and was served with koshiba (small dish) and dessert.

Oh and one thing to note is that the salad at IPPIN comes with NO dressing. You get to customize your own dressing or can even opt have it plain!

IPPIN Cafe Bar also serves a wide range of craft beers and sake! I'm not a huge fan of sake, so I decided to give their craft beers a try.

From far left:

Koshihikari Ale - $9

Koshihikari is one of the most famous and delicious type of Japanese rice, and this beer gives off a light and smooth texture. (MY FAV)

Pale Ale - $9

Beer brewed from barley seeds that are home-grown which gives off a well-balanced bitter and smooth texture.

Dark Ale - $9

Has a rich flavor that resembles that of Guinness stout but is slightly lighter

We also got to try their Rattsu Nuts which retail at $8 per cup! They've it in Coffee, Matcha and Strawberry flavors and my favorites were the latter two!

Their Yuzu Jelly Dessert which got me requesting for seconds! It was really refreshing with a mild citrusy, yet sweet aftertaste!

Like what I've mentioned, IPPIN Cafe Bar is also a Japanese concept store which sells various items ranging from the ingredients used in their dishes. paper fibre clothing, premium Japanese snacks, condiments and many more!

Don't forget to check out their website here:

Or visit their Facebook at:

Once again, a huge thanks to IPPIN Cafe Bar and Hazel for the invite!

Toodles! smile

[Adv] DoSiRak Singapore Smile Jun 08, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean

DoSiRak is a healthier take on the traditional Korean lunch boxes called dosirak, which comprises of a well-balanced nutritious meal of rice, meat, and vegetables. The people at DoSiRak have teamed up with a nutritionist to make sure that each dorisak contains no more than 500 calories. They have also obtained a Healthier Choice Stamp by the Health Promotion Board!

They have a Takeaway Joint located at China Square Central and offers Delivery Services as well!

Here's their menu!

Here are the Dosiraks I tried!

Soy Sesame Chicken - $7.90

(Slow cooked chicken breasts, carrots, lotus, eggs, red cabbage, spinach, white rice)

Kimchi Tofu - $7.90

(Kimchi Tofu, Japanese cucumber, White cabbage, Lotus, Black beans, Shitake mushroom, White rice)

Salmon - $9.90

(Cured fresh salmon, Eggs, Japanese cucumber, White cabbage, Black beans, Carrots, White rice)

Spicy Chicken - $7.90

(Slow cooked chicken breast, Bean sprouts, White cabbage, Shitake mushroom, Spinach, Onions, White rice)

They are made to be super simple to consume!

Just assemble rice or noodles with meat or tofu, and vegetables, add in the Korean paste, shake it up - and you have lunch!

We also tried the Korean buckwheat noodles that came with the Salmon Dosirak, and it was a really refreshing change! My family was a big fan of the other Dosiraks because not only did they taste good, it was a healthy substitute from our usual meals. Best thing was that the ingredients used in each Dosirak really complemented one another. The paste used was the traditional Korean dressing which tasted something like those they use with Topokki (Korean rice cake) - a little sweet, yet spicy that made it really palatable.

I would definitely recommend you to try it. It's great, especially when you're on the go or need something healthy to eat for lunch!

Thank you DoSiRak SG and Andrea for the pleasant meal! smile

Menu

Interior

Fruit Juices served in cute test tubes. They serve water in beakers too!

We had:

Truffle Fries - $12

(Fries dipped with truffle oil served with truffle mayo dip)

Noone can resist good old truffle fries. At $12, some may find this to be a litle pricey, but I felt that it was one of the better truffle fries I have had. I was sold to their truffle mayo dip too!

Masago Caviar Pasta - $20

(Baked half shell scallop topped with fresh quail egg and caviar masago)

This caught our attention when the table beside us ordered it and nope, no regrets. The pasta was lightly tossed in aglio olio style and the scallops serbed were huge and really fresh. The quail egg added an amazing finishing touch with its broken yolk. A tad pricey, but high recommended!

Messy Breakfast - $17

(Truffle infused scrambled eggs on a toasted english muffin, roasted sweet potatoes, bacon-wrapped pineapple, oxford sausages, roasted tomato and fruity salad)

I felt that their breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. The truffle scrambled eggs were too strongly scented and I felt that it was overpowering. The bacon-wrapped pineapples didn't catch my liking too. The only thumbs up were their oxford sausages!

Fruity Berries - $17

(Seasonal berries pancakes with apple compote and strawberries, drizzled with maple syrup)

Loved this!!! One of the few pancakes I have had that infuses fruits into their pancakes. It was so fluffy and moist! Loved the batter that they used too. You should really try this, together with the Masago Caviar Pasta when you are there!

Service:

The servers knew that we wanted an indoor seat and was so attentive to our every need. The orders arrived really quickly too!

Atmosphere:

A really cosy cafe though it might get a little squeesy indoors. Outdoor seating is available too, though I wouldn't recommend it as it's just beside the dusty roadside and under this scorching heat.

Morganfield's Singapore  Smile May 07, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

Morganfield’s is known for their signature Sticky Bones – prime pork ribs basted in sweet tangy hickory BBQ sauce. Recently, we were hosted to a Bloggers’ Party at Morganfield’s brand new outlet at Suntec City. True to the spirit of Southern hospitality, we were treated to an American feast like no other.

The friendly people at Morganfield’s served up their best dishes for the evening. Here are some of the highlights of what we had.

Bacon wrapped prawns

Candied bacon

Sauteed Mushrooms - $9.90

(King mushroom sauteed with merlot garlic butter, sprinkled with parmesan cheese)

The Caesar - $12.90

(Fresh romaine lettuce tossed with homemade Caesar dressing, topped with crispy pork bacon bits, croutons and Parmesan cheese. A classic favorite!)

Pop Corn Pork - $8.90

(Pork cubes marinated with Morganfield's secret spice mix and deep fried till crisp. Served with homemade Garlic Aioli and BBQ Ranch Sauce)

Russet Potato Skin - $9.90

(Baked potato skin loaded with mixed cheese and crispy pork bacon bits. Served with BBQ Ranch Sauce)

Classic Mojito - $15.90

(Rum, Lime Chunks, Mint leaves, Brown sugar & splash of soda)

Virgin Lychee Mojito - $9.90

(Lychees, Mint leaves, Brown sugar topped with soda)

Bread Pudding - $9.90

(Comforting homemade bread pudding. Served warm with ice-cream and whiskey sauce)

Chocolate Lava Cake - $14.90

(Moist, warm chocolate cake filled with rich molten chocolate. Served warm with vanilla ice-cream and caramel sauce)

Special mention goes to the Carnivore platter that we had. Consisting of a full slab of their signature hickory BBQ pork ribs, half roast chicken, grilled sausages, corn bread, and a truckload of fries, the Carnivore platter certainly lived up to its name. Needless to say, the Sticky Bones stood out as the highlight of the platter. Succulent and juicy to the bone, we couldn’t get enough of it.

This sharing portion serves up to 3-4 people.

The Carnivore - $95.90

1) Choice of any full Slab Sticky Bones

(Hickory BBQ, Tuscan baked spicy, Smoked peppercorn, Garlic BBQ or Spicy Asian BBQ)

2) Choice of any 1/2 Roasted Chicken

(Herb roasted, Tequilla spiked, Honey stung or BBQ)

3) Grilled Sausages

4) Garden Salad

5) Grilled corn on the cob

6) Corn bread

7) French fries

Morganfield’s also has a range of specialty American craft beers on offer. We rarely see American craft beers in Singapore, this is surely a bonus for any beer connoisseur out there. Our favourites were the Dead Guy and Hazelnut beers, which paired absolutely well with the smoky ribs.

Morganfield’s offers a value-for-money Set Lunch promotion, priced from $9.90++. You get to choose from a selection of 17 mains, thumbs up for variety indeed. Each set comes with free Soup of the Day or House Salad and a soft drink or hot/coffee tea.

For the alcoholics in us, do rejoice as Morganfield’s has a Happy Hour promotion from 11am – 8pm (Mon-Sat), and all day on Sunday. Happy Hour Carlsberg Draught Beer at $10 per pint and for $9 per glass of Happy Hour House Wine or Spirits. Located right outside Promenade MRT station, the outdoor bar at Morganfield’s Suntec outlet is perfect for an after-work chill out session.

Special thanks to Juliana Iskandar for the invitation, Alex for bringing me along and Morganfield’s Singapore for the warm hospitality.

The Burger Office Smile May 07, 2015
Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches

I was invited to The Burger Office a while back together with foodies like Ace, Carolyn and Wen Hui thanks to Yummypin! The Burger Office is a little burger shack located at Goldhill Plaza (Nearest to Novena MRT) and it serves a variety of mouth-watering dishes - from burgers to pizzas and even fried mars balls! Oh and not to forget the caramel donuts we tried. They've a wide range of sides which will definitely leave you spoilt for choice!

Burger Office Burger - $12

(Fresh Lettuce, tomatos, pickles, beef patty and homemade burger office sauce)

The beef patty was juicy and it was served with freshly toasted buns. The burger office sauce had a sweet tinge to it, but it complemented the patty well. Thumbs up to the fries too btw! Couldn't stop munching on them.

The Burger Office Burger was also available in the chicken version!

Pepperoni Pizza - $20 (For 12")

(Tomato sauce, mozerella, pepperoni, bell peppers, onion and garlic)

Loved the pizza though the pepperoni was a little overcooked. sad The toppings were generously spread on each slice of pizza as well!

Donuts with caramel dip

Oh the caramel dip! This was by far one of my favorite dishes served to us (apart from the burgers). I'm an avid fan of donuts and these were fried to perfection. Another plus point was that they weren't oily too! Heh didn't felt too sinful enjoying it.

I forgot to take a picture of the Fried Mars Balls that we tried, but they were extremely delicious! Definitely something I would order when I'm back at The Burger Office.

They also serve a wide range of beer and other alcoholic beverages, so it's also a great place to hang out after work!

And foodies being foodies, we even went to the extent of standing on chairs to perfect our burger shot. Thankfully there were no one else there who would have judged us hahaha. But I mean, #foodiepride man! Heh and that means going all out just for a good picture.
