Sweet? Spring Cry May 13, 2011

I have always been a loyal fan of sweet springs, and my mum and i often frequent the outlet at AMK Hub for its delicious dim sums.

When we entered the restaurant, it was rather empty, so we sat ourselves down by our usual seat. When we wanted to place an order (we had to tick our choices and hand them to the waitress) we were told to make payment at the counter first. Service was extremely slow as there was only 1 or 2 staff on the floor and i had to wait for quite some time to be attended to at the cashier.

I didn't manage to get a snapshot of all the items, but i ordered the siew mais, spicy wanton, pork ribs, a glass of barley and soya bean.

Now, this place has always been famous for its desserts, especially its soya products (beancurd and soya milk) but we have come to love its dim sum although it was a tad bit expensive.

When our food came, the staff did not even bring the dim sum basket down and just left them stacked on top of each other. We had to bring the basket down ourselves and it was hot!

To my horror, the once delicious siew mais (my favourite) were COLD inside. Yuck. We asked for a replacement, and when it came back (i am not sure if they just re-steamed or gave us a new batch) it tasted really awful.

Anyway, moving on, the pork ribs was good, very flavourful, although a bit too fatty, used to be more meaty last time. The spicy wantons are not really that spicy, but the thin skin and thick juicy meat inside made a good combination.

Overall, my mum and i both agreed that the standard of the restaurant fell alot, and vowed never to come back for its bad service and horrid siew mais again.

Poor cheese cake  Cry Dec 30, 2010

Categories : American | Café

I have always loved cheese cake and decided to order the oreo cheese cake from the coffee club.

However i was very disappointed as the cake was terrible! The oreo cheesecake was not nice at all!

On the top of the cheesecake is a layer of jam like jelly I think ( not very sure abt what it is), It doesn't have any taste of cheese like the usual cheesecakes we have from other places. I always feel that cheesecakes should taste like cheese, however this one is like eating cream cheese! Yuck. The bottom crust was made with oreo and was pretty ok, however, overall I think is far behind my exception of cheesecake.

zinger zinger Cry Dec 30, 2010

KFC has been in Singapore for so many years, and does what it does best, fried chicken!

I have always loved KFC for its affordable student meals and simply loved their zinger burger.

Anyway, while shopping at plaza singapura, i decided to drop by KFC with my friend for a quick and cheap bite.

I ordered the zinger meal which came with a mash potato and drink. When the burger came, it seemed to be placed messily and haphazardly. The chicken was a strange rectangular shape and exceeded the width of the burger. Nevertheless, i bit into my burger happily.

It was a rude shock cause i pulled out a tiny piece of bone from the burger! Was really shocked and i kept imagining what would happen if i swallowed it.

Would wish for KFC to have more control and ensure that all their burgers are safe to consume. (meaning no bones)

Fried chicken, anyone? Cry Dec 30, 2010

Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal

When you think of fried chicken, what comes to mind? For me, it has to be my fast food restaurant from my secondary school days, KFC.

I have always like KFC for its no frills, cheap student meals at $4.50, u get a drink, mash potato and choice of zinger or bandito! For a student, this price rings bells in our ears.

Anyway, i decided to get a bandito student meal.

--

The wrap was a little overcooked and was slightly burnt, giving it a burnt taste. However, i was ok with it cause it did taste more fragrant that way.

The fried chicken seemed to have shrank compared to other stores, and it was dry and had more batter than chicken. Somehow, all the sauce remained at the bottom, would have liked it more if it was more evenly spread.

Overall, wasn't too pleased with this bandito, as i have had better ones in other outlets. Really wished that there were more control in through the outlets so i wouldn't be disappoint when i dine at other outlets in the future.

Sushi! Cry Dec 30, 2010
Categories : Japanese | Seafood | Sushi/Sashimi

I was craving for some sushi and decided to drop by Kuriya at Srgn Nex. I loved how it is located in Shokutsu 10 where there was a cluster of small restaurants and snack stalls all selling Japanese related foods.

Anyway, i picked an ebi sushi and kani mayo sushi while my friend picked some roe and seaweed sushi.

-

Both my sushis were awful. The ebi sushi was pretty ordinary i had to say, but i was definetely expecting more from my kani mayo sushi. I was sorely disappointed when i could barely taste anything (mayo was not enuff) and that the whole sushi was poorly made and falling apart.

It isn't cheap either at about $0.90 per sushi (depending on which types. Will never get my sushi from this place again.
