Mad Jack at Nex! Cry Dec 27, 2010

It was a super long queue everywhere but we decided to drop by mad jack cos the queue was the shortest. Ended up waiting for quite sometime, but my friend and i were chatting away so it made the time seem shorter.

Almost all the staff were young teenagers, but they were very polite and i thought the service was good. However, when we were seated, the table was not cleared yet and there was a bottle of shattered keptchup on the floor. The staff then went to get a SMELLY mop and mopped up the mess. The smell from the mop was really revolting, and i do think they could have cleared up the mess before getting us to sit down first.

Anyway, there was no service charge, we basically fill in our orders and make the payment before our food would be served. Half-way i asked for warm water to take some medication and was told that i have to 'order' and make payment for it at the counter. I gave it a pass.

I ordered the linguine cause i have always loved cream pastas, however when it came it looked nothing like the menu. The bowl was plain and boring and the food looked home-cooked. Upon tasting, it tasted so bland and boring, i even added some pepper to my friend's horror.

Do not order their linguine if you ever come by. Ever.

It was my birthday and while deciding what to eat for dinner at Vivocity, we stumbled upon The King Louis Grill & Bar, which was hidden a couple of mins away from DIASO.

The deco was pretty cool and it was quite crowded. As we were in a large group (8 pax) we could only seat at a row of table just in front of the entrance. As we didn't really want to sit smack in front of the entrance, we asked for another seat. The waiter then brought us to another seat, which was very dark (cos the light bulb above us had blew). So we basically fumbled around for a bit as it was quite hard seeing our food. mad

Food:
We ordered the 'Knight's banquet', which consists of about 3-4 slices of steak, chicken, caramelized fruits and fries.

After waiting for AGES, our food finally came, we gobbled the food up as we were hungry, but were terribly disappointed.

First off, the food was cold. Why it was even cold did not make sense to me. Had they cooked the food and left it out for some time as there were not enough staff to serve? The meat were hard and tasteless, and the only plus side was the sauce which i liked. Had to ask for more sauce to 'swallow' down the rest of the meat.

Do note that the portions are quite big, so you may want to share a platter amongst 2-3 persons.

Ambiance & Service:

Overall service was slow and the staff seemed confused. The plus side was that there was a live singer, and all the medieval deco and lightings really brings up the atmosphere. It was such a pity because i really liked the ambiance but the service and food were just not up to mark.

I did not enjoy this experience and will never come back here again for their expensive and tasteless food that they claim is 'fit for a king'. Maybe next time when they have improved on their food, will i be back again.

Masala Dosai and Poori OK Feb 19, 2013

Categories : Indian | Vegetarian

I ordered the Masala Dosai while my friend ordered the Poori from Komala's at Little India.

First off i must say that the portions were HUGE! My friend and i had great difficulties finishing both items on our own. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the Poori and i find it quite interesting to pair it with the curries and sauces. The dough was fragrant although abit oily.

My Masala dosai had a slight sourness to it, not my favourite but perhaps for someone with preference for it.

CARTEL OK Jun 05, 2012

Was at Plaza Singapura to run some errands and decided to drop by Cafe Cartel for a quick and simple western lunch. As it was a Friday, we had two choices to choose from the set lunch menu, and i ordered the Grilled fish fillet with fruit cocktail and honey mustard sauce!

The set meal came with a garlic bread (which was a little hard for my liking), generous serving of mushroom soup and drinks of your choice.

The fish fillet itself was rather flat, and thus not as juicy as it could have been. The fruit salad and sauce was rather interesting when paired with the fish. However, the fries were dreadful, would prefer macdonald's fries anytime. The salad, was nothing special, just a bunch of greens tossed together with a tiny bit of vinaigrette.

Overall, it was pretty average, but at $10 for the entire meal, what more can i ask for?

After a hearty meal with my group of friends nearby the area, we decided to have some bean curd for supper! we dropped by the outlet at kovan and i ordered mine with extra sugar syrup! the beancurd itself was alright, although it was not as smooth as i wanted it to be. overall, pretty average beancurd.
