Prego is an italian restaurant that is part of The Fairmont hotel. There were several entrances at the side but I just could not find the main entrance.

Prego features a pizzeria, wine bar, rotisserie, takeaway counter and deli. Freshly baked breads, cakes, salads, sausages, cold cuts and pastas are available from the deli counter.Prego conveys a sense of fun in a casual atmosphere. Strategically located at the corner of bustling Bras Basah and Beach Roads, delight in a hearty Italian dinner whilst people-watching. One must try it’s signature dessert- The Tiramisu.

I decided to had the February Executive 2 course set lunch priced at $45++ . There is only a choice of salad and 3 main courses available.

Complimentary Bread

It was just an ordinary bread roll but it taste terrific with the home-made tomato sauce & olive oil. This is a favourite and popular with the customers here.

Insalata Di Pollo

It is basically a salad with grilled chicken breast, mesclun, cherry tomatoes, cheese , balsamic vinegrette and olive oil. The portion is just too small and sadly, the grilled chicken breast taste bland and flat. Perhaps I am biased against chicken meat but this fared badly. I left the thin chicken pieces untouched.

Fettuccine con panna funghi e Piselli

This was my main course. The other 2 choices were beef and rabbit meat which I do not really prefer thus I decided to have the pasta. The Fettuccine pasta comes with mushrooms and green peas with cream sauce but I requested them to remove the green peas and replaced by vegetables. However, they merely add in more mushrooms. I asked them and they told me it wouldn’t taste good if other vegetables were used. The mushrooms were ok, chewy and flavourful. The cream sauce was a little heavy so I requested for some home-made tomato sauce to cover it.

My verdict: Overpriced! I paid around $52 for the above 2 dishes ,the serving was so small and they are simple dishes that anybody could simply whip up at home. Definately not worth the hefty price tag.

Mediterrean vegetarian cuisine Smile Aug 17, 2010

Original Sin is the first and only Mediterranean vegetarian restaurant in Singapore. Original Sin is named after the famous fresco painted in the Sistine Chapel. It represents the passion, creativity and skill in our unique and flavourful cuisine.

Located on trendy Jalan Merah Saga in Chip Bee Gardens (by Holland Village), the award-winning Original Sin is right next door to its meat-friendly sibling Michelangelo. Run by co-owner and culinary director Marisa Bertocchi, the restaurant specialises in Mediterranean-style vegetarian food that appeals to even the most devoted carnivore. Original Sin also offers choices for vegans and jain (no egg, onion or garlic) customers.

One must not miss the Bosco Misto ($25++) which is their signature dish. Spinach, feta and tofu patties served with sautéed button mushrooms in a plum sauce and topped with asparagus. As there is crushed almonds and sesame seeds in the patties, I gave this a miss.( Allergic)

I had the Moussaka($24++), highly recommended by my friend. Oven baked layers of char-grilled eggplant potato, tomato and lentils, infused with Middle Eastern spices, topped with a béchamel sauce. They sprinkled a little paparika powder on top of the moussaka to give it a spicy flavour.

Instead of pasta sheets, they replaced it with sliced potatoes and lentils. The eggplants were soft and I love it!How I wish there are more eggplant slices to replace the potato slices. The potato slices were sliced thinly and the lentils gave it a nutty texture. The middle easten spices provided a different taste from the western lasagne.

Besides the usual menu, they do have daily’s specials and Weekend brunch ($18++)- Poached eggs on Ciabatta. I would definately be back to try out the rest of the items.

Panini OK Aug 17, 2010

Categories : Italian | European | Restaurant | Pasta

Ricciotti at Riverwalk is opened everyday, even public hoildays. Their desserts and italian foods are quite popular. The location, facing The Singapore River, suitable for a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience. I love their desserts, they are so exquisite and unique.

The Menu, ranging from Authenic Italian fares to desserts. There are several options to choose from. Their home-made gelato are also recommended.

”Panini” , small Italian Sandwich filled with meat, cheese, grilled vegetables…etc. I had the ORTOLANO. (Zucchini, eggplants, capsicums, sun-dried tomatoes and basil pesto). The panini bread is grilled and pressed, filled with grilled vegetables. The grilled zucchini and capsicums were alright. However, the eggplants slices were a little tough and diffcult to chew. I love eggplants that has the smoky flavor but this fails to impress me. The greenish colour of the pesto spread looks a little digusting but looks can be deceiving. The panini bread were spread with basil pesto which were flavoursome.

The Service here is commendable, very friendly and helpful. Recommended for relaxing dining and italian fares.

sandwiches OK Aug 17, 2010

Lite Bites Café is a popular breakfast and lunch bar in the Central Business District.
Their mission at Lite Bites Café is to deliver Tasty, Healthy, and Nutritious food and drinks. We maximize the use of whole grains and ingredients low on the Glycemic Index (GI ) in the gourmet sandwiches, so that the customers enjoy great tasting food without an overload of calories.

There are a few selctions of sandwiches and you just have to choose your choice of bread and sandwich of choice.
I had the Falafel (Veg) sandwich, chickpea patty, hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, yoghurt and herb dressing. All served on Kraftcorn Bread.

Falafel is fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas and/or fava beans. It is an excellent source of protein, fiber, iron and other nutrients. The patty is a little on the grainy side, the patty breaks and crumbles easily. I didnt like it. The kraftcorn bread is soft, full of seeds and nuts and sandwiched with some lettuce leaves and tomatoes slices. It is then spread with theiryoghurt and herb dressing. The dressing taste like mediterrean salsa sauce. The bread wasn’t toasted thus it went soft and I didnt like it.

Oatmeal Raisin cookie

I am not sure whether it is baked in house or they get it from suppliers. The cookie is not too sweet and I think they sweeten it using brown sugar. The cookie is packed with lots of raisins…love it! The oat flakes on top added nutty and chewy texture and extra fibre!

The Service here is generally friendly and effcient. Lite Bites cafe also provides delivery and there are quite a number of people ordering take-away sandwiches and coffee. However, the majority would prefer delivery. A ideal place for breakfast or tea.

Cafe in a gym OK Aug 17, 2010

Sky Cafe, it is well hidden at Level 16 of Harbourfront Tower 2. I wouldn’t have come to the cafe if I had not search HGW. The breathtaking view also includes that of Sentosa and Mount Faber. This cafe is inside Sky Fitness Club and I find myself a little ”out-of -place” when I dine at the cafe. The customers are people who wants to enjoy healthy yet tasty cuisine before and after their workout.

The menu demostrate some of the healthy food such as wholemeal sandwiches, lot-fat brownies, burgers, pastas…etc. Choices are quite limited though. The are brown rice sets and the protein drinks are quite popular. The people there would probably ”power” up with protein drinks and bar before and the start of their work-outs.

Ultimate Veggie Sandwich ($6)

Since there is only 1 person tending the cafe, he had to do the ordering and preparing of the food. The sandwich took abt 15mins to arrive. 3 slices of wholemeal bread with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese and capsicums. I have added extra egg-whites and tofu to go along with the plain veggie sandwich. The tofu is actually soy bean cake, it was served cold and I didn’t like that.

They serve a fat piece of cheese which was not even melted. It was a little gross and turn-off. The sandwich is actually quite filling, with all the healthy ingredients. It was almost too healthy and definately not for anyone who is a carnivore.

The cafe is taken over 3 times by different owners, they used to have raw lasagne but the current, just simple stuffs. I would probably return for the work-outs but not for the food.
