Before I stepped into Indian Times, I relish the thought of feasting countless sticks of kebabs. But reality turns out, that after hitting on other dishes, my tummy couldn't handle so many kebabs.

Basmati rice with green peas: I love this rice. Not much pungent Indian flavour. Simple yet tasty and goes well with all of their dishes.

Raitha: Yogurt mixed with onions, tomatoes and cucumbers. This dish may sound like a dessert from the description, but it doesn't look and taste like one. I would say it has an exotic taste that opens up your craving for more food.

Dal Tadka: Yellow lentils with spices. Can't remember much about this dish as I tried very little of this.

The Paneer Makhani (cottage cheese cooked in tangy gravy) and Aloo Methi (boiled diced potatoes), though did not have curry in their description, tasted of curry.

Kebabs: I tried the chicken and fish pieces. There was only one type of fish and I find that after grilling, the meat was a bit tough. The chicken kebabs, though more variety, meat is tough for some as well. I wouldn't fancy grilled onions that are big as there's just too much onion taste in one bite. It's best to order the kebabs first as some time is needed to grill them.

Other than the above-mentioned dishes, there's another one that tastes like curry puff, with potato and green peas filling, but less crispy. Do not mistaken the green paste for wasabi. It's their yogurt sauce. Talking about sauces, they also have barbeque sauce great for dipping the kebabs into it! They also serve crackers and naan to your table, with additional servings upon request. Crispy crackers but I just can't take my hands off the naan! It's a thinner version of roti prata and tastes like it. More spring onion added would give the naan better fragrance. I dip this into their sauces and curries! lol

Lastly, the desserts..
Caramel Custard: A smooth dessert with lots of syrup.

Semiya Payasam: A dessert made up of semolina, milk and cashew nuts. Very interesting dish but it takes time getting used to the taste.

Gulab Jamun: Deep fried milk balls in sugar syrup. The texture of the dessert is similar to butter cake but it's milk balls soaked thoroughly in a lot of syrup. Too sweet for me.

Prices are a bit overrated, but still worth visiting for its classy and comfy environment and unlimited servings of kebabs.

The location of this outlet is hard to find. Unlike other dining establishments, it's not within Ion Orchard itself, but closer to the MRT.

The buffet costs $18.90; top up $12.90 with any main course orders.

I ordered the Ocean Crunch Salad. Drizzle the pineapple BBQ sauce over the fried fish, shrimps and calamari on a bed of crisp greens and you get a perfect bowl of salad with crunch. I wish the portions were bigger.

For the buffet, the cold treats offered are ice-cream and gelato. Both types are creamy, with various flavours to sweeten and zest up your palate. Be dazzled by the array of toppings available to spruce up your ice-cream creation! Love the chocolate bars, maltese, nuts...

Moving on, there's a Chop Shop where you can create your own mashed ice-cream. Well, you're not really the one doing the chopping, but you can choose your toppings and ice-cream flavour to create your unique blend. There's also waffles, mini pancakes, cakes and a chocolate fondue for dipping sticks of marshmallow, strawberries and profiteroles!

A little reminder: If you can't eat much, don't order the main course and ice-cream buffet. You'll be too full after the main course to try as many ice-cream delights as possible. Thus I would recommend this place for high tea as the preferred meal.

Overall, it's a pleasant experience to get brain-freezed and try out different ice-cream combinations and creations. Though the prices could be fine-tuned a little to make it more affordable.

Back again to patronise this outlet for tries at other sidelines! The outlet has dim lighting to create a relaxed mood for dining. There are seats arranged in a semi-circle style for cosy gatherings and bar seats near the window for viewing the streets outside.

Unlike my first visit, the Hot chicken is cooked better and spicier than before. Not bad!

Their sidelines are simply alluring to look at; large amounts of food filled in small white bowls.

Potato Lime Leaves Skewer: The potato skewers pale in comparison to the Peri Potato Salad. It tasted of bland, simple potatoes. I wonder if the taste would be better if I had eaten the lime leaves.

Spiced Rice: I'm torn between the Mediterranean Rice and Spiced Rice. I believe this sideline is made with many spices to give the rice its unique flavour. Unlike the Mediterranean Rice, every grain of the Spiced Rice is distinct and tastes yummy.

More than just fish Smile Dec 30, 2010

Categories : Singaporean | Restaurant

Despite the name F.I.S.H, this new concept under the Fish & Co chain offers more than just fish. Their menu comprises of chicken, steak and also a buffet salad bar. It is priced at $12.90++ and $5.90 if a main course is ordered.

Not much choices at the buffet bar. Few greens and other salad toppings.

Over to the main courses..The char-grilled codfish fillet with lemon pesto was accompanied with potatoes. The skin was a bit tough but was saved by the chewy fish meat. The lemon pesto sauce and spring onion completed this dish.

A better main course choice was the spaghetti. I was surprised when the staff served a plate with a bag on it. When I opened it up, reddish, fragrant, hot spaghetti awakened my senses! The spaghetti looked yummy, smelled very nice and tasted very 'tomato-ey' (to my liking) as I swirled spoonfuls of it into my mouth. Succulent prawns gave this dish extra bite.

Finally, I ended the meal with the cheesecake, an intense cheesy cake with strawberry sweetness and a crunchy biscuit base. No qualms about it. Just pure indulgence.

Western dishes Smile Dec 30, 2010

I rarely tried Breeks because I feel that it's just normal Western fare, over-priced. Also, there's not much variety of food. Went there to celebrate my friend's birthday. The manager at the outlet kindly lent us their fridge to put the cake that we had bought.

Ordered the grilled fish with pasta and sparkling drink, those kind of drink which is sweet and fizzy. The grilled fish is tender and I love the melt-in-my-mouth feeling when I eat fish with sauces. The tomato spaghetti is nicely cooked and tastes well on its own too.

After all of us had finished eating, the staff came out with the cake and started singing happy birthday song. Prompt and attentive service!
