Riders Cafe Smile Dec 13, 2010

My choice place for brunch. Although it's a bit difficult to get to - as the only way to get there is via car - the ambience and the food makes up for it.

Brunch plates are reasonably priced from 9SGD for Yogurt with toppings to maybe 15 SGD for Rider's breakfast. The servings are generous (at least based on my capacity to eat which I hear is less than normal). The eggs benedict is simply divine! For an added twist, try the smoked salmon version. The Rider's breakfast is just your basic eggs, toast, bacon or ham set with beans. You can't do much to ruin this simple breakfast anyway.

The ambience is good as you are surrounded by greeneries mainly for horseback riding. On the weekends, you can see horses walking around the area as well. Better to make reservation as they can get quite packed during this time.

in addition to what the other reviewers had mentioned, I would like to recomend the eggs benedict. This dish is not special because of the poach egg but rather the bun which is lightly pan fried which makes it better than toasted. It is coup with a cup of fruits for your mornings' nutrition

Service is just so so. Nothing so great about it yet it's not completely terrible as well.

GREAT FUSION FOOD

I have returned to Halia for to celebrate special occassins like birthdays & anniversary and everytime it has nothing but a wonderful experience. Halia's setting is so cozy, beautiful and relaxed both in the day and night time. Whether you're having brunch on a Sunday afternoon or a romantic dinner on a weekday...Halia never fails to please you. Though its a bit pricey but food is great. Most of their items are a fusion of asian and western ingredients and they ahve a good wine selection too. I love it =)

The Mask Restaurant Smile Dec 06, 2010

My family had a lunch at the MASK restaurant at 418 Serangoon Road and it was delicious and great. I do not think that you can get good food at that good price in any part of the town. Also, the services were magnificent, the staff were friendly. Great cook and great job. Do not miss it, just take MRT to Farrer Park, in front of CITY Square Mall (3 minutes walk) Thanks all cook and staff and we have had an enjoyable lunch.

MUST TRY
Pumpkin Tofu!!

I liked the chilli crabs and also tried the fish head curry. Flavour was really good and tastes excellent

Spruce Smile Dec 06, 2010

Spruce is a relatively new restaurant located at the old Phoenix Park a new restaurant in an old place. An American chef and a local businessman runs the restaurant. Highly recommend the Ahi Tuna starter and Seared Tuna (main course). For desserts, try the sticky date pudding which is superbly yummy. Spruce serves brunch on weekends and is always packed. Make a reservation at least a week in advance.

Black Earth Restaurant Wine Smile Dec 03, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean Western

The evening meal was exactly the same as lunch, meaning a similarly tangled jumble of temperatures and flavours; the warm vegetables and strip of char-grilled marinated sirloin are topped with chilled pickles and drenched with cold black peppercorn sauce.

As with the other mains, every bite contained different degrees of sweet, salty, sour and spicy; and it doesn’t help that the sirloin, toughened by the splash of cold dressing, was already dry to begin with.

The only impression made by the pan-seared salmon flavoured with lemongrass in a lime cream sauce is that it looked and tasted just like the lunchtime snapper, except this time it had donned a tart cream sauce as a rather gauche piece of eveningwear.

The wines ($8-$10 per glass) are served over-chilled; the desserts are uninspiring and appear thrown-together (strawberries with fresh cream, dates with yoghurt, or fresh mango with ice cream, $6-$7.50).

Despite having piled too much on their plates, promise still lurks somewhere within the gastronomic confusion of Black Earth. If they choose to moderate their menu a tad, we’re sure their creative juices would be allowed to flow a little more freely
