Takeda's Keisuke Ramen restaurants are arguably one of the best places to get your ramen fix in Singapore. It has often been lauded for its rich tonkotsu broth and authenticity. On that day, I went with a couple of friends to try out the ramen from their Four Seasons restaurant chiefly because the unique decor which we had seen online caught our eye. We had previously been to Keisuke Tokyo(located at Suntec) and had a wonderful experience with the ramen there so of course, we went to Four Seasons with rather high expectations as well.

The restaurant opens at 5pm and we reached there quite early(at about 5:10pm) to avoid the snaking queues we thought such a popular restaurant would've had at its dinner hours. We were able to get a seat immediately although many seats had already been taken up. It is wise to turn up early though because when we exited the restaurant(at about 6pm), there had already been quite a long queue formed already.

The menu consists of five choices only: Spring(basil & cheese powder), Summer(spicy), Autumn(bonito flakes and fried mushrooms), Winter(simply the tonkotsu broth in itself) and last but not least[in fact, it was the most expensive of the lot], the King(ginger stir-fried pork slices). From the 5, I decided to go with the King ramen. While waiting for our ramen which arrived quite quickly, we treated ourselves to the hard-boiled eggs that came in a little basket on the table. The eggs were nothing special but were still a treat especially when dipped in the soy sauce provided. There was also a container of seasoned beansprouts which were not too bad. Furthermore, the waitress provided us with a mini pestle and mortar with sesame seeds for us to grind and add into the ramen if we wanted to(I didn't).

The ramen soon arrived and the layout of the various toppings were impeccable. I chose the ''Strong'' broth, ''Hard'' ramen noodles and ''Normal'' chicken oil. The broth was really rich and quite salty too; there might have been MSG added because I felt really thirsty afterwards. I thought the chashu was a bit dry and the pork slices a bit lacking in flavour. The large piece of seaweed provided added some visual pleasure but hardly played a part in the flavour of the broth. The ramen noodles were nicely done and firm to my liking. The flavoured onsen egg was excellent. Overall, the ramen definitely surpasses that of many ramen shops in Singapore simply due to the very tasty and pork-y broth. However, there was a huge disappointment this time round - the broth was served somewhat lukewarm and quickly became cold so it got a bit sickening towards the end where I felt I was drinking cold, salty water. Personally, I feel that the ramen I had at Keisuke Tokyo was better than the ramen here largely due to the former being hotter when served and also because the broth felt more pork-y in a way.

Service-wise could also be improved in my opinion. The female waitress who served us seemed a bit cold and I definitely did not feel the warmness of the staff in here as compared to Keisuke Tokyo.

Taro Milk Tea... amazing!! Smile Aug 01, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

For most of you out there, the idea of a taro flavoured milk tea might probably put you off(that was what I initially felt), however, I definitely recommend you to try the it here. I ordered a medium sized Taro Milk Tea with Black Pearls(the original version is with white pearls but I opted for black due to personal preference), 80% sugar. At the first sip, I was totally overwhelmed. The taro flavour was just so fragrant and flavourful! It had the oriental 'chendol-ish' taste and fans of the local desserts in Singapore will like this drink especially. The flavour of the taro itself is a little bit sweet already but still, the drink was able to pull off a 80% sugar level nicely. It was a little bit on the expensive side($3.50 for medium size) but I strongly believe it was worth any penny. Try it the next time you visit Sharetea, you won't regret it!

Gong Cha is probably the most ubiquitous bubble tea brand in Singapore, it can be found in almost every corner from Singapore, from Jurong to Pasir Ris! I've personally tried Gong Cha from many different branches and not a single drink have left me disappointed. Consistency is definitely a key attraction of Gong Cha. I tried to Gong Cha Milk Alishan Tea and it is really good! The salty and creamy Gong Cha milk blends in very well with the light and mild green Alishan Tea and the result is a very smooth drink with a velvety texture. The pearls are firm and not the ''floury and starchy' pearls you get in other brands sometimes. Overall, a very pleasant drink with pleasant service. smile

Tealicious started out years ago and it once offered great bubble tea. The drink has changed A LOT over the years though, sadly. When it first started out, the tea was robust and very strong, it had a very unique taste you could not find in any other bubble tea shop and that was what used to make me come back for more. However now, the tea is no longer as strong and it almost always contain too much ice, despite me ordering 'Less Ice'. Plus, the pearls are different now too, it is smaller now(not to my preference but you may like it). I highly recommend the Chewy Gem milk tea with pearls but the chewy gems is almost always not available(failed to get it the past 3 occasions) so it's been quite a long time since I've had that. Overall, it seems like a largely watered down version of it's legendary predecessor, the old Tealicious.

Not too bad, average local fare. OK Apr 06, 2013

The photo of Fiona Xie eating the bak chor mee attracted my attention and hence, I went to try the bak chor mee for $3 a bowl. The bak chor mee was average, nothing special, which really made me question why there were so many awards this stall has won. In the bowl of noodles, there were meatballs and one fried wanton. The wanton was pretty good and the meatballs were excellent, QQ and delicious! The char kway teow, again, was very average but the hokkien mee was actually very good! It's probably the best dish offered by the stall but of course, it pales in comparison to the famous hokkien mee stalls out there (E.g Clementi, Boon Lay Hawker Centre etc.) Overall, the stall served average food which will be good if you were hungry but definitely not where you want to patronize if you're looking for a sumptuous and hearty dining experience.
