Thai Goodness? Smile Oct 05, 2013

It's actually really hard to find authentic thai food in singapore. The problem actually worsens when you have been to Thailand before! With all the new shops springing up in Singapore, it's always a journey of discovery to find some good thai food! When Ah Loy Thai came into the picture, it was always promising to be the new place to go!

First up was the tom yam soup! I like that the dish had enough punch to it, and it was sour enough! There was also a wide variety of seafood in the bowl! However, it was slightly too spicy for me!

Next up was the pineapple rice. I didn't like that the rice was slightly too sticky. Also, it didn't really have much taste to it, so i wouldn't recommend it actually!

The pandan chicken though was really good! Juicy and succulent, there was a great taste to it, and the chicken pieces were really huge! Try it!

Last dish was the butter calamari, and everyone had better try it!! The calamari were fried to perfection and were really juicy! The best part was that the butter sauce was really creamy and went really well with the calamari pieces!

Fancy a bite at night in the east and not sure where to go? Simpang will definitely be a place for you to solve those problems!

Order the Roti John if you want a power-packed meal and together with a drink, it will definitely fill you up! the roti john came with plenty of mushrooms and they were so succulent! It was also drenched in cheese!

The other comfort food that i always go for would the black hokkien mee! Not as good as the traditional ones in KL, but i'm not complaining man!

Spanish Favourite Smile Oct 05, 2013

Being someone who is always watching food shows on television, paella is one of the dishes that are featured very often! Also, it is proclaimed to be one of the best dishes in spanish tradition!

Having heard some good reviews about Ambush, i decided to go down to try the Paella! I liked the sauce between while it was tangy, it wasn't too overpowering. The rice had also absorbed a lot of the tasty goodness that it was probably soaking in. The best thing was, the seafood that was paired with the rice was fresh and succulent! Kudos!

The Rossini! Smile Oct 01, 2013

Immense expectations visiting this place! 3 michelin starred restaurant!! Boy were we expected coming to this place! We weren't exactly dressed in the most appropriate way for a restaurant of this calibre, but none of the other patrons were in blazers and suits and what-nots as well, so we didn't feel too out of place!

Had been craving for a good burger for a long, long time and i really hoped to satisfy that craving here, especially after the reviews i heard about this place! We were still slightly full, and were gonna get plenty more grub after this stop, so we were merely gonna just get one burger for the both of us. I am a huge fan of foie gras, and thus, we were definitely going to get the rossini($28). We also went for the truffle fries and had to top up $3.

There was a guy walking around and talking to the customers and i would guess that he was Bruno Menard but we didn't get a confirmation. I didn't really feel at ease in this place because all the waiters seemed to give us a look. I don't know if it is because i'm too sensitive but they seemed to mind that we weren't exactly ordering a lot and spending lotsa money. Nonetheless, we weren't going to let this affect our night and our dinner!

The burger came after a short wait and we couldn't wait to dig in! I cut a small piece of the dry aged beef patty to try first and it wasn't very amazing so i was quite disappointed! It couldn't compare to the one i had @ Prive a couple months back! The patty was really juicy! However, when i cut into the foie gras and put it into my mouth, i was brought to heaven! And they were extremely generous to give such a huge, fat piece! It was exceptionally creamy and smooth! Just like a knob of butter! Although the beef wasn't fantastic, when paired together with the foie gras, it was truly a match made in heaven! I truly enjoyed every mouth i had.
The Rossini!

There was a tinge of truffle oil on every single fry, and yet the smell wasn't overpowering!

I would definitely be back again for the burger although i hope that the people there would be more friendly the next time i'm there!

Finally, Shiok Maki!! Smile Oct 01, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

We first dropped by at Koh's at about 7pm, but the queue was way too long so we decided to get some other goodies first before coming back again. But we knew we had to get this that night!

We came back at about 930 later, after getting The Rossini from &made! To our horror, there was still a queue, but we had no choice but to just join in. We finally got a seat after maybe around 20 minutes. Because we were still quite full from the burger, we just got a serving of the Shiok Maki, but a mix of the 2 generations. We also got the Pitan Tofu just to give it a try.

The pitan tofu came first and although it looked quite scary initially, it was actually pretty nice! I expected the dish to have a strong century egg smell but it was just nice! There was a good balance, and the tofu was really nice and silky.

The shiok maki came not long later, and i really felt a great sense of comfort as i put a piece of it into my mouth. Not only was the sauce really creamy, it went really well with both the eel and the ebi! This shiok maki is really as good as everyone has mentioned it to be.
