If not for my Japanese colleague, I would know that such restaurant exist. The signboard was plain and hardly catch our eye. One would have easily miss it without a 2nd look. The small Japanese restaurant are managed by the chef and a lady. (Not sure if she was his wife.)

The are only counter seats. All small dishes are ready-looked and display around the counter. Just let the lady have your order and she will bring the  food to you after heating up.

One interesting thing to note is that there is no price stated in the menu. You never know how  much the food cost until you call for your bill. It is kind of scary though. Also, there is no tea or mineral water served in this restaurant. Only alcoholic drinks.

According to my Japanese this restaurant is extremely popular with Japanese. She had made reservation 2 weeks ago in order to get the seat. We saw a lot of Japanese salaryman inside the restaurant and really feel like you are in one of the Izakaya in Japan.

The chef was quiet and seldeom interact with customers. Howver, he had surprised our birthday gal with his complimentary sushi salad.  very thoughful of him indeed.

We never get the total cost of the bill as it is a treat from my Japanese colleague. the dining experience is good and we will definite go back for more. However, without the help of Japanese to order food may be a challange to you.

Yummy Food Smile Dec 21, 2014

Categories : Shanghainese | Dim Sum | Noodles

This restaurant was recommended by my colleague. As my parents are Tim Sum lovers, i  brought them there to try ont he food.

There were only 1-2 customers in the shop though it was lunch time. The staff were fast to notice us and offered seatss near the door as my mum was on wheelchair.

I have ordered zhe jiang Mianm prok fried dumpling, chinese pizza, red bean pancake & lastly gluntinous rice ball.

I like the chinese pizza the most. The crust was thin, crispyand the fillings were full. Unless other stalls which sells thicker skin and small fillings, you can taste every bit of the fillings. The chinese pizza tasted even nice with ginger with vinegar! I finished almost 1/3 of the ginger placed on the table!

Pork dumplings were also well fried. Again it was a wise decision.
This is s must try order item!

For dessert, we had ordered red bean pancake & glutinous balls. Both were lovely!
The lutinous balls are of different flavours, namely, red bean, black Semase, peanut & yam.

We will definitely return back, but the next time we will consider their new outlet at orchard ION.

Long waiting time Smile Dec 27, 2014

Very crowded during weekend. Perhaps it was after Christmas. We had waited for almost 30minutes before our turn to get seated.

We ordered fried silver fish, shi zi tou, mapo tofu (not in pic) & fried red bean paste pancake.

The food took another 20minutes to be served. While waiting, we saw the kitchen chef was out taking orders and serving food to the customers. A are scene indeed. Perhaps most of the customers were here for the buffet dinner instead of the ala cart menu.

Suprising the fried silver fish is awesome. very crispy and it goes very well with the rice.
The shi zi tou is awesome as well. 3 big balls of minced meat.  very soft and juicy. Cabbage is sweet as well. I had a second helping of rice!

We round up the dinner with our favouritered beanpaste pancake. The crust was not crispy but the fillings was full and rich. every little bit could taste the red bean paste.

Overall price is affordable and food is good. I will definitely go bac again.

Dessert Time! Smile Dec 21, 2014

Categories : Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

I had a habit of eating dessert after meal and found this stall while shopping with my friend.

The are a lot of varieties and we took a long time to decide our orders.
We had picked Yam paste & Durian mango sago.

The yam paste was super duper nice! Tthe paste was thick and did not have a coconut milk in it. It looks like the authentic teochew style yam paste! kudos!!!! It was piping hot when it's being served to us. The staff was kind enough to give us an extra bowl and spoon for us to share between ourselves.

The durian mango sago was good as well. The mango was sweet and blended well with the durian and sago.

It was near tea time when we arrive but the queue is acceptable.
Waiting time is about 10minutes. We will definitely go back again for more.

New Ba Kut Teh Branch Smile Dec 25, 2014
Categories : Bak Kut Teh

Heard from my sister that the famous Ba Kut Tek has newly open branch in Chinatown. As i have not tried it before, i have decided to go with my parents.
Opening hours is form 10.30a.m onwards.

We had ordered pork ribs soup, groundnuts, salted vegtables and braised dried beancurd with chicken feet. Best part is that the soup is refillable. wet tissue is chargable, so we did not use it.

We had decided to order a larger size pork rib soup costing S$9. (with 4 pork ribs). The soup was clear with strong pepper taste. Very delicious. We had refilled the soup for 3 rounds. However, i feel that the pork rib is a bit tough.

The groundnuts and salted vegetables were awesome.

Overall, the dining experience was a pleasant one. We did not wait long for our food to be serve. Also, the soup was refill almost immediately upon request.
