Too pricey! Cry Sep 04, 2013

I was at Tampines shopping for mooncakes and decided to have my dinner at Thai Express. There was no queue at around 6.30pm, I was allocated a seat near the glass window.

Menu

Menu

I ordered one main course, two sides and a drink for dinner.

Lemongrass tea $4.90++. This didn't have a strong enough lemongrass taste, its more like a regular ice lemon tea. I should have ordered their new Cold Quenchers.

Thai seafood otah $8.30++. This is delish, generous serving of fresh prawns, squid & chunky fish slices in the spicy otah paste...my fave!
Seafood otah

Stuffed chicken wings $9.30++. At this price tag I expected the stuffing to be either minced meat or mushrooms...but I'm getting just fish paste! The wings were crispy and well marinated though but I'm still unsatisfied with the dish overall.

Tom Yum Crayfish glass noodle soup $15.60++. This was good, the broth is spicy and tangy enough...had a whole mid size crayfish and ample serving of grass mushrooms...nice.

Service level was alright here, waiting stuffs are prompt but not warm. Food quality here does not match the hefty price tag. For 3 not-so-outstanding dishes and a disappointing drink I paid $44+...totally not worth it! I would rather dine at other Thai restaurants.

Disappointing dinner at Canelé  Cry Sep 02, 2013

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

My company has an afternoon event last Friday and we knocked off early at 4:30pm. I had done my homework online before hand and had decided to try the food at Canele at Plaza Singapura. My mistake for not checking the updated menu at the restaurant entrance!

The evening peak has not started so I was ushered to my table immediately.

After browsing through the menu, I realized that they DO NOT serve Wraps, Crepe (both sweet & savory) and Appetizers that was stated on their online menu. There is only a few selections of All Day Breakfast & Pastas, 3 kinds of Salads, 3 kinds of Sandwiches & 2 kinds of Burgers. The food selection is so limited that I took very very long to finally chose a salad and topped up for 2 sides.
Menu

Menu

My tiny pot of Flowers of Asia tea $7.50++. The tiny pot contains about two full teacups of tea. The tea was quite fragrant but overpriced for its tiny portion.
Tiny teapot

The Salad Canele $12.00++, fresh greens with hard boiled egg, crab meat and pine nuts drizzled with citrus dressing. One wouldn't notice the crab meat if they didn't read the menu description cos it was only sprinkled sparingly on top of the salad together with the pine nuts as garnishing! Luckily, I had topped up for 2 sides Sauteed Mushrooms $3.00++ and Ham $4.00++ to add on to the uninspiring salad.
Expensive salad!

I didn't order dessert after the meal and chose to purchase them as takeaways to avoid paying them service charges for an unsatisfying meal.

I bought a box of Assorted Signature macarons $11.50 and two slices of cakes $6.50 ea.

The cakes were ok, pretty ordinary...nothing to shout about. Macarons were overly sweet, especially the Salted caramel one! The only flavor I fancied was the Chocolate Noir which contains 70% Valrhona Chocolate and was bitter sweet.

I am truly disappointed with this restaurant. I won't be patronizing them for a long long while!

A huge letdown! Cry Aug 06, 2013

Categories : Hotel | High Tea | Desserts and Cakes

We were initially so looking forward to dine there due to good reviews online and some of our friends who visited there once on a less busy weekday raved about their food and service. 10 Scotts, a recently revamped cafe at hotel Grand Hyatt, was a huge let down....despite charging the same price as 6* Ritz Carlton, this place failed us big time! Here's the low down of our dining experience on a busy Sunday afternoon.

Upon arriving at the restaurant entrance, nobody came to greet us nor usher us to our tables. We were made to stand there till we decided to walk to our tables by ourselves. Ambiance of the dining area was a nice and cozy setting, it was designed like a family home with comfy sofa and coffee tables...feels like a lodge retreat actually. But on a busy Sunday afternoon, nobody makes you feel like home here. Everything good also ends here, the nice decor.

After seated, we made order for our food and drinks, both were served after a long delay (say 45mins wait), and refills takes forever to come (min. wait 20-30mins). Food items were not complete (our tray was missing the cheesy tartlet, scones were not served). The food here tasted blah...even their signature dishes didn't wow us a tiny bit. For the extra dollars we pay for the weekend price, assorted maki and chinese duck rolls were served at the buffet station. Maki was wiped out and wasn't replenished till an hour later, duck rolls was so dry I couldn't even finish one roll...nothing much else wow us from the buffet station either sadsad

The only consolation was the dessert station...although not a big spread, they actually tasted good accept for the overly sweet pineapple crumble, everything else was fine.

My friends who recommended this place were so disappointed on the big gap in the level of service as compared to their weekday dining experiences.

One word of caution...go at your own risk.

Too sweet! Cry Aug 01, 2013

A few of my friends were fans of Garrett so I decided to buy a packet of Caramel Crisp ($8.00 per bag) popcorn to try. I find it super sweet...the caramel sticks to my teeth when I eat them. To be fair the popcorns were very crispy....but hmm not my cup of tea sad

There weren't many flavors to choose from as compared to Chef Tony's...only 3 basic flavors Caramel, Cheese & Butter and those mixed with nuts. I won't be spending anymore money at this place soon..

Categories : Singaporean | Hainanese | Food Court

I was at Food Republic looking for dinner option. Finally decided on having chicken rice and some side dish to share with hubby. I bought a 'half white chicken' with two rice and a tau geh dish. I initially thought the tau geh will be poached and seasoned upon order but atlas...the xiao di di went over to the Economic rice stall and scoop the ready cooked tau geh which is cold already shockedshockedshocked

Taste wise, the chicken isn't fantastic and the tau geh as mentioned earlier was cold and not nice. I won't be back again anytime soon.
