Chicken chop OK Oct 01, 2013
Categories : Coffeeshop

Hubby went on cycling and da bao dinner back for me from Golden Rooster.

Chicken chop set $5.80
The chicken chop set comes with coleslaw, baked beans, fries and a bun (packed separately). The fries were alright, quite crispy. The bun is oily and dry, not nice.

The chicken chop was not too bad, quite juicy and well marinated but a tad oily and the coleslaw & baked beans didn't do so well drenched in the oily sauce. Overall, a so so dish.

Chicken noodle & dumpling soup OK Oct 01, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Food Court | Roasted Meat

Today's makanhunt location is Food Junction at Nex. I haven't eaten at this Chicken rice & Roast meat stall before so I'm trying their dishes today. I ordered a noodle dish and a dumpling soup for dinner.

Chicken noodle w/ roast pork belly
I ordered white chicken noodle and top up for extra roast pork belly. The chicken is tender and juicy, pork belly has crackling skin and the noodle was flavorful, delicious lol

Dumpling soup
The dumpling were so so only, it has small amount of minced pork and a tiny bit of chopped prawn meat. Nothing fantastic.

Dishes here are pricey, 2 items with takeaway charge of 30 cents per container cost me $12.60.

My evil sista who is having a staycation at RWS initiated a meet up. Few of us who are working met up with her and family for Steamboat dinner at Coca.

The not very busy restaurant and their Tuk Tuk car on display at the entrance. There is no particular design theme for this eatery, just simple and functional furnishings and table arrangement.

Our huge round table for 11pax. They used induction cookers for heating up steamboats, we had three pots for sharing.

The menu. Ala carte prices are on the steep side, so we ordered Buffet dinner $40++ for all and one ala carte Roast pork belly dish $19++ for sharing.

Menu

My Ice Lemon tea $4++, the serving was kinda smallish. Taste wise, it is passable.

The delish Roast pork belly. Serving portion is pretty large and the chunky pork slices were juicy and had nice crackling skin. Good.

We ordered quite a bit of different meats, seafood, veggies and homemade dumplings for sharing. Choices aren't very extensive but ingredients were pretty fresh.

Our Tom Yum soup base...

As usual, we over ordered and were stuffed by the end of the meal.

Service level here is passable, they were prompt but not warm and friendly. Food wise is of good quality but a tad pricey for limited selections. Nothing in this restaurant left a good enough impression on me, so there is no reason for a revisit any time soon.

Indo meal  OK Sep 05, 2013
Categories : Indonesian | Halal

I was at Nex checking out the Mooncake fair and decided to try the food here. This place operates like a typical Indo eatery...place order and pay at the counter first and wait for the food to be delivered to your table. Since it is considered as self-service, there's no GST and service charges on top of food bill.

My Ayam Bakar $6.50, consists of a 1/4 grilled chicken, tempeh & beancurd. Add $0.80 for white rice.

They gave me chicken breast which I don't like...very dry and hard to swallow. The BBQ sauce drizzled on the chicken and beancurd was good though, sweet and super spicy.

Tahu Telor $5.50, deep fried tofu with egg...a traditional Indo dish. This was quite nice but a little oily at the bottom. The peanut sauce was quite nice.

Iced Chendol $3.00, this is nice but very very sweet!

I think I will try their fish dishes next time...

Taro bread OK Sep 01, 2013

Categories : Bakery

My friends were raving about this Taro bread ($2.00) and how nice it is, so I bought a loaf to try.

Taro bread

I find the bread slices are too thick and the taro paste is too little, I couldn't really taste the yam paste...infact it is quite tasteless. Overall, I don't quite like it.

Glutinous rice pancake (black sesame) $1.20
This was very chewy and dry, sesame paste is not too sweet, I don't really like this too.
