Mixed Fries

Mixed Fries

My group of friends and I were searching for a place to rest after all the walking after dinner and now it's supper time for us! We settled down here and were lucky to get seats pretty fast as the restaurant was already packed with people! After us, a queue started to form. We ordered drinks and also one serving of mixed fries to share. There is not much of an ambience at this branch and the drinks and food arrive quickly. The mixed fries turned out so addictive and we couldn't stop popping it into our mouth! Besides the mixed fries, there are other types as well like the seaweed, garlic, spicy, bbq and many many more!

Jap lunch special Smile Feb 27, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Sushi/Sashimi

My friends came here before and recommended their lunch sets as they are nice and value-for-money! The 3rd set is complimentary with every order of 2 sets, which comes to about $10++ for each lunch set!
Ebi Tempura

Ebi Tempura

For starters, we ordered the Ebi Tempura sushi which was not bad!
Miso Soup & Chawanmushi

Miso Soup & Chawanmushi

Each lunch set comes with a bowl of miso soup and chawanmushi. I was surprised that the chawanmushi here is better than average as the amount and quality of ingredients are good! The miso soup is tasty as well.
Bara Chirashi set, $14.90

Bara Chirashi set, $14.90

I chose the Bara Chirashi set as I love sashimi and it consisted of various kinds of sashimi on a bed of rice, very yummy! There is also a side serving of mixed salad, tuna salad and watermelon. The food here is definitely worth going back more than once and a few times! smile

Nice but expensive bread OK Feb 25, 2014

This hole-in-the-wall bakery Nicher have been appearing on various articles and I had to check them out one day! As I was around Tiong Bahru for lunch, I decided to drop by and got half loaf of their Earl Grey Berries pound cake! It is a really tiny shop situated next to a wanton noodles stall and you have to look really closely to spot this bakery! Anyway, they close around 3 pm and when I was there about 1 plus pm, their breads and muffins are all just freshly baked!
Earl Grey Berries Pound Cake

Earl Grey Berries Pound Cake

I have never tried this flavour of pound cake before and was pretty eager to eat it! The pound cake is dense and buttery with the right amount of moisture. The healthy dose of berries mixed within and the tinge of Earl Grey is just too good! I find it expensive though and would only consider this a treat once in awhile smile

Kaya & Rose Caramel, $3.50 each

Kaya & Rose Caramel, $3.50 each

I've been wanting to check out this cupcake bakery as they have some unique flavours! I takeaway 2 cupcakes only but they put it in a nice solid box ^^ I chose the Kaya and Rose Caramel cupcake, both of which I have been eyeing after seeing pictures online! I love kaya and was really curious as to how it will taste like in cupcake form. The cake base is actually pandan mixed with coconut with a kaya cream cheese frosting. The Rose Caramel cupcake is made up of a vanilla cake base with a salted caramel core with rose and salted caramel buttercream. Between the two, I prefer the Rose Caramel flavour as the Kaya flavour is quite bland. I love the tinge of 'bandung' taste from the Rose Caramel frosting and it instantly became my favourite! I also like that the cake base is light and fluffy, not dry at all! The other flavours include Red Velvet, Chocolate, Matcha, Salted Caramel, Mocha Chocolate, etcetc. I will definitely be back again! smile

Indian breakfast OK Feb 24, 2014

Brekkie!

Brekkie!

I was craving for an Indian breakfast and this stall is located just 10 minutes walk from my house! As usual, I ordered the Paper Thosai while my mom had the Plain Prata. We both shared the Coin Pratas! I ordered Masala tea while my mom had Teh Halia. I expected the place to be bigger actually but it was quite crampy and their service is bad! We had to keep repeating our orders and the man is very slow and can't multitask. Lucky thing their food is nice if not it would be a really horrendous start to our day. The paper thosai is wider than the width of the table! Their curry standard is better than most places but the chilli is too spicy for me! The cute coin pratas are tasty and the prata curry is also good! As for my Masala tea, it is not bad but I prefer the Teh Halia, which is superb! Overall, their food is good but the environment and service makes me think twice about coming back again.
