Chicken Rice OK Jun 04, 2013

The soft and tender chicken with not so hard rice. Shiok! Don’t know why it’s so popular but I thought it tasted quite normal actually.

Usually long queue during lunch and dinner hours. However, they are quite fast hand fast leg in taking orders.

$2.80 (lesser chicken meat) or $3.30 (decent chicken meat)

Pineapple Rice – soft, simple, tastier than plain white rice for sure. Rating: 4.5/5

My favourite curry fresh & tender prawns must try! Rating: 4.5/5

Famous fried fish, quite meaty 4/5

Sweet and sour pork, usually soft but may be hard to chew at times 3.5/5

Spring onion pork, soft meat and fragrant dish! 4/5

Long beans, slightly salty at times 3.5/5

Tofu soup, pretty salty and sticky 3/5

Good point: Pretty cheap prices and usually cost between $30 to $40 for a family of four.

Worth the try for its decent prices.

Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles Smile Jun 04, 2013

Tiong Bahru Market, a big and airy hawker. You will NOT sweat because it’s really an airy place!

AND I’m so impressed with the queue for this prawn noodle stall. I’d safely say the queue’s worth it.

Been on TV, an initial loser stall that totally turned its luck around after being taught of how best to cook a tasty bowl of prawn noodles. I’m sure some of you have seen it on TV before right?

$4, a generous serving of noodles with 2 big prawns, 3 soft pork ribs and a hot bowl of piping hot tasty soup. Totally worth the money for its quantity! I felt totally satisfied because the quantity’s just right for me. I thought it’s cheap for such a big bowl and I got the “I FELT FULL ENOUGH” feeling. Thumbs up!

The dry version looks equally appetizing and you can even ask for a refill of a small bowl of soup!

I’m really happy for this prawn noodle stall’s success in turning its luck around and I’ll definitely return to eat if I were nearby.

Hong Ji Herbs Ba Kut Teh Smile Jun 02, 2013

For detailed review: http://phuachiuyen.wordpress.com/2013/02/07/hong-ji-herbs-bak-kue-teh-19-marsiling-lane/

Served in claypot with thick herbs taste, my total love.

Order the mixed one because there’ll be very soft pork ribs, pig liver, sliced mushrooms, lettuce, tau pok and some intestines I think. Ok, sounds totally gross but tastes totally awesome and it’s a nourishing bowl of HOT HOT SOUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$5.50/person (Soup + Rice)

I can just drown myself in the soup because anything of such sweet thick herbal stuff just melts me.

Hua Long Fish Head Steamboat Smile Jun 02, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Zi Char

For detailed review: http://phuachiuyen.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/hua-long-fish-head-steamboat-%E5%8D%8E%E9%BE%99%E9%B1%BC%E5%A4%B4%E7%82%89-amk/

For our main, we tried the longevity noodles ($18) and we were pretty pleased! Good spread of ingredients. The taste was just right; it wasn’t salty at all. It felt homely too. 8/10

The salted egg chicken ($8). Contrary to our expectations, there wasn’t any strong salted egg taste. It was fragrant mainly due to the oats used in the dish. I think it should be named oats chicken instead. It wasn’t so crispy afterall so it felt slightly soggy. Not so good! 6/10

The “dong buo” pork meat ($12). Nice! Something like the typical chinese lor bak. The pork was very soft. The sauce was more towards the bland side; it was not too salty and suited our likings! 7/10

The honeydew prawn balls ($22). We found it a bit expensive. It was well presented though. The prawns were huge, crispy and hot. The salad sauce and grapes made the overall dish good. I dug out the honeydew to eat too! This was my favourite dish out of all the rest I had. ^^ 8.5/10

It’s worth the try if you’re living nearby and looking for a simple zi char meal. I think they didn’t use much MSG because I wasn’t thirsty at all after the meal and everything wasn’t overly salty. Anyway, nothing too grand here captured my picky tastes so I doubt I would purposely make another trip down. Heh.

Overall satisfaction: 7/10.
